I have a friend who was a GREAT Reno from FFVIII, but she ran into this even MORE amazing Reno (in person at least) and was so disheartened she gave up on it.

Le'suck.

This is why, unless you're competing, you should really try not to compare yourself. I'm sure that Reno didn't mean to ruin it for her.
I've run into better Cosplayer than myself once or twice, but instead of being discouraged, I simply felt spiced up to do even better.

In fact, this year I'm trying to make each cosplay one step more difficoult than the one before.

So just yesterday I finished the jacket of Mello of Death Note - which had to be hand-sewn in a lot of places and next week I'll be really starting on Taigong Wang, since I collected all necessary items.
Well, I'm already done with the small accessoirs, but I need to start at the clothes finally ;P

I'm a proud fan of BOTH, Samurai Warriors AND Sengoku Basara.
Bashing either at own risk.

I'm totally guilty of cosplaying a character that isn't my body type. :(
<--- points at avatar. But i still think I managed to compensate by knowing how to comfortably handle a large single-handed weapon, and at least get into his mindset.
Have you hugged an Uesugi daimyo today?

It's a peeve of mine so lemme say that you did a very good job handling your lack of WRAR MUSCLES!

Kenshin is a little more forgiving though, even though he's tall and broad, he wears A LOT of covering items so there's no bare chest to worry about or totally ripped abs.

I think your Kenshin is very good. ^_^ I've always admired it.

It's not so much the muscle, I'm pretty lean...Kenshin, if you consider the number of layers he is wearing, is pretty thin actually - historically some people claim he's vegetarian too. It's just that I'm 5"4 and probably shorter than our group's Nouhime and Oichi XD

I can't wait till I see your Taigong Wang! He's a funny guy.

Anyway I'm working on the more forgiving Fu Xi cosplay now. You could hide Pamela Anderson under that armor. Though body appearance hasn't worried me so much because I think that becoming irritated by that opens up a whole potential for discriminating based on skin colour, age etc; as if elitism and totally $$$$-rich cosplayers don't make things hard enough for newcomers.

You wouldn't happen to be on any of the Expos in London would you? ^^°

I hope to be albe to get there in fall, since there are so many DW/SW/WO cosplayers there T^T
I wish there were only half as much in germany, now that I finally moved there.

It would be fun to get the trio together :)
