How to make a Lu Xun (DW3) costume ?; My Lu Xun cosplay

First of all, the explanation: Me and my girlfriend love doujin, especially when our favorite characters are involved in. In an U.R.C. circle doujin's, Lu xun is transformed into a girl by Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbants. So, let's have fun and make a "Girl Lu Xun" Cosplay ! She will do the girl Lu Xun, and I take the boy's one. I separate all the differents parts: - The tunic 1st and 2nd Part - The armband - The hat - The shoes - The twin swords I'll post patterns i use when i draw them clearly... Do Not Forget: If you don't understand something, please PM me. Understand that i have not finished yet. I'm making the costume during the weekends, i'll edit the message as soon as possible. I'll give you what kind of cloth or material I used. Now, the pictures: Lu Xun The Tunic, Materials: - Red cloth with satin effect. - Gold ribbon The main piece of the tunic Make this piece of paper 2 times, it will be the front. To make the back, just make "a mirrored piece" and link the to piece of paper by the longer side. So you have 2 small pieces and one larger piece. Attached them on the wrong side. I put needles on the shoulders and on the two side. Once linked As you can see, the "glossy" side is inside. You now must sew on the wrong side. Then return the tunic on the right side: tadaaa, you have the fisrt part of the tunic ! Once sewed I have cut and sewed the other part of the tunic. Then i put yellow ribbon all around. I used some glu especially made for tissu. Then i have found a pattern of pants. I cut it and sewed as on the pattern. Picture at the back of this page. --------------- The armband Materials: Same as the tunic To make the armband, I cut 2 times these parts: Parts to cut The parts, sewed: Here the armband I don't have finished yet, i must buy some gold ribbon... ---------------- The Hat In some cardboard paper, i cut rectangular piece , a discal piece and 2 special piece to do the front and the back of the hat. Then I put a layer of vynilic glu, then a layer of paper. (repeat 2 or 3times) pic a day later, paint it red, make the silver lines. when it is done Then cut the 'wing' into paper. Cut the same foam than earlier . You must have as many wing of foam than of paper. Cut the foam wings into small 'feather'. Then, glue it on the paper and paint them gold. here the picture With the foam and the cardboard paper. Do all the curved line. Paint it gold and do some details with the 3D gold painting. Chalk is really great to draw on the polystyren. the red and blue lines are here to represent where other things will be. EDIT : UPDATE !! The sword are nearly finished !! I put some pics, add the girl lu xun's swords. In the next update i will have finished the 2 types of sword. Then i'll begin all the costume parts. EDIT2: I want to reorganize my tutorial. I place each part in a single post. First, all the tunic. Here the second, the shoes: The shoes Material: Foam / Gold Painting / 3D effect gold painting / Blue ribbon / Brown shoes / Same red cloth than before. Here the foam, with the trademark: Foam "Crepla" We will try to do this : Lu Xun shoes and Legs protections I Made a close up from the doujin... ( unless you want to see sun shang xiang's and Lu Xun's breasts ? You have a teaser in the up left corner...) In foam, you have to cut something like that: Picture Make it two times. One will be the right leg and the other, the left leg. I put 6 eyelets in order to attach the leg protection with a thight rope later. Put adhesive ribbon, then paint in gold like Here. After 3 or 4 layers of gold, you can draw the circle motif with 3D painting. (wait 12h hour for 3D painting is dry) Finish ! Then, I will do the circle near the ankle. And i have to bought brown shoes...) EDIT: In my reorganization, this third post is for the weapons. The twin swords Materials: - Polystyren (I don't know how to translate the adjective "Extrud�" from French to English...) Here comes the "polystyrene extrud�" It's like polystyrene with white balls but... with no balls. It is often used to insulate the houses from noise. You can buy it in Do-it-youself shop. The polystyren (You can see silver color on it, it was a test with painting in aerosol suitable for polystyren the picture Here ) Now the blade: 80 cm long about 20 cm large. You can easily cut it with a cutter. Begin with drawing a sketch of the blade with chalk, then cut little by little in order to make the sword more in details. This is nearly finished. I carved some details in the sword: Here I made a second sword, I cut, carved ans sanded. The with polyvinylic glue and newspaper, you must cover the blade and the handle in order to make a metallic effect with the painting. Putting the painting directly on the polystyren make a "stone effect" so you must put the newspaper to transform it in a "metallic effect" Put a layer of glue, then newspaper, and another layer of glue. 24h after you can paint it. Here picture of swords Newspaper glued on the handle Metallic effect on the blade Gold painting on the handle and under the blade, blue acrylic painting on what are not painted yet. So it will normally be like that: picture I bought two transparents eggs (usually it is in order to make your own christmas balls...). And i painted the interrior side in red. Then I fix it on the sword with glu suitable for polystyren (again and again...) the swords Here half of a egg on the sword You can see on picture a little yellow line. I have just done the little curved line with some 3D effect painting (the painting will become bright gold 24h after.) The swords are finish !! For the girl Lu Xun, another type of sword was chosen. Same method as before: The swords some details The red things are a kind of foam rubber. ( We wanted to custom this swords ,so we've put two little bells. Gan Ning X Lu Xun is the best of classic ou Yaoi pairing XD ) I painted handle in gold and i recovered handle with ribbon. One sword done ! You just have to do the same for the other sword. If i progressed so fast, it was because my university was on strike. but our cursus had been free from the strike... So I have to make up all the lecture... So I can only make the cosplay on the week end.
