I'm not sure if anybody has disscussed this but this is just something that bothers me occasionally. Its just that Koei's been cheap on the english acting as long as I can remember. In fact, some of the actors I heard are the same actors that did well in other anime shows (and/or games) but yet they're doing horrible in Koei's games. Either Koei's paying them less, not doing enough rehearsals, or they're just focusing on dubbing rather than acting . I can deal with it but sometimes, I just have to laugh about it and say how pathetic the acting can be sometimes. In fact, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam is the only koei game that has GOOD english acting. Even the guy that did Ma Chao's voice did the voice of Domon Kashu and he did a great job (this is what I heard about one of the DW: Gundams actors so if you think I'm wrong, than I'll look it up) and the english actors were actually credited too unlike in the other Koei games (eg Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Bladestorm). Other than that, I think the acting in there games (except for DW: Gundam) is just either, unethusiastic (some), overdone(some and Zhao Yun in particular),not dubbed right(eg Hideyoshi Toyotomi from Warriors Orochi lol), or just plain bored out of there friggen minds(Liu Bei and Zhu Rong and probably some) lol .Lemme know your thoughts are and stuff lol and srry if there any typos or grammatical errors (if there are any.) |

Also, the reason why I'm talking about this is because this is what I think. Good acting= interesting character personalitys and/or good story telling. Bad acting= not very interesting character personalitys and/or not very good story telling. |

I admit that some of the Japanese voices are strange, and the English ones are too off; lol, maybe they couldn't afford good VAs. The Japanese ones are alright but Zhou Yu's voice came mostly from his nose. The English version only made it sound worse. But what good is discussing this? |

I think the way that the industry is set up has a lot to blame for how badly the VA comes out a lot. Have you read the interviews posted here and on the main site? Voice Actors are stuck in a recording booth with a huge book with all their lines and asked to deliver them a number of ways. If they're lucky the director fills them in a little on the situation, but unlike say...voice acting for a show there is no table reading, and there is no face-to-face recording interaction with other actors. Judging from what I've read they don't even get to see a screen with what the characters are doing to try and match up sound to video. So considering the rediculous way it's set up, I think the English voice actors are as good as can be expected. Though sometimes you look back at the cuts the directors made and wonder what they were thinking (Okuni's English voice in Sw1?). Soo....we can't really say they're focusing on dubbing rather than acting, and there isn't any rehersal--but the job IS HARD. You try standing in a plexiglass box for five hours shouting out lines with no idea of what your characters goals/dreams/interactions are like. It makes it pretty amazing when a scene actually...you know, WORKS. |

Hmm. I guess you're right. thx for clearing it up. But I just wish koei would at least improve the recording rooms they have like a screen like you said. |

Yeah it's shocking when you learn they work more or less in a vacuum. I guess that's an industry problem though. I doubt Koei owns it's own recording equipment, it probably hires out the job of the English dubbing to a professional company...and the situation is still this murky. XD it makes the life of a voice actor seem very lonely! |

That's been one significant difference between Japanese and English voice acting: generally the Japanese actors get to meet and record their lines with the other actors, while in US the actors do their job individually. Then there's stuff like unions in the US that actors are in, which limits which companies can hire them or their studio for work. It's a complicated business. |

Yeah I notice some voices are not bad like Zhao Yuns. But sometimes I don't like the way good voices are acted out sometimes. Eg Diao Chan sounded kinda bored in dw6. Lu Bu's english acting is iffy though cause I can't tell if its bad or good cause the guy that played the voice of Lu Bu did the voice of Algol in Soul Caliber 4 and he did a good job from what I can tell. i think DW4 had the best lineup of English voice actors. KOEI should just make sure they stay with all of them for their respective Warriors characters. i think DW5 and Samurai Warriors had particularly bad voice acting as a whole, even though most of the DW4 cast was used. are they really lacking in space on the BluRay discs that they cant just include the Japanese audio into the American/Euro versions of the game? its not like the Japanese audio isnt just sitting there already with nothing to do. and would the added code be that much of a hassel? perhaps im being too demanding on this end....but theres still no excuse for an increasingly bland gameplay experience NOT related to the voice acting. |

^ Well I know and have read that many people in 4 favored Cao Cao's voice. To be honest I was very happy with what Warriors Orochi 2 gave us in terms of the new characters. There wasn't a single new character voice that I didn't like. I was expecting Himiko to have an annoying voice, but surprisingly I found it pretty good, and none of her quotes got on my nerves either. What I'm a bit more concerned about is the time they spend and where it's recorded. I can remember in the Empires games voices sounded like they were recorded in a shed or something. |

Yeah in fact, imo, I thought the voice acting in dw4 was tolorable and ok at times. But dw5's acting went down hill that time cause Liu Bei and Zhu Rong sounded bored at times. Zhuge Liang's acting, however, was suprisingly ok at times. But in dw5 empires, he sounded downright bored, imo lol. |

I find the voice acting pretty annoying, but I also find it good myself. Every character's voice actor are good also, but I would think the voice actors must practice their voice. Well I think the good voice actors would stay on their characters. I don't find the voice acting kinda cheesy. Even though some people think the voice acting is kinda cheesy I'll rate it 8 over 10!

I think Orochi voices were improved. I liked the DW4 voices better than the DW5 voices. well, maybe not DW6 Cao Cao. it was cool, though its the same as SW1 Nobunaga. I also think Dynasty Warriors impressions are fairly difficult on my part. |

God, you guys reminded me of the 'added' lines for DW5E. Not only did it go downhill from there, but some cases like Pang De sounded like someone was filling in for the original DW5 English cast! |

Well some people need to realize it's not the actors fault all the time. They do whatever the Director tells them to. The only thing I think that needs to be changed is how things are said. Everything sounds so fake, would anyone ever talk like that? Like Ina and Ginchiyo in WO sounded totally fake but in SW2 they sounded pretty natural like they just said not announced it. |
