Censoring rape in any movie or television show is something I would support 100%.

I disagree with you, personally.

Why would pretending that rape doesn't exist have any effect? Wouldn't it add more drama to portray something so horrendous? It adds an additional layer of tragedy to a story. If done right, it can portray the rapist as a real ****ing asshole and the raped as a tragic victim. Portraying rape in of itself does not justify the act. In fact, it can have the opposite effect and demonstrate how brutal and horrific rape is.

To give a similar analogy, I feel the best way to show people that "drugs are bad" is to show specific examples of the negative ramifications of drugs. If people know the most serious and drastic health consequences of drugs, chances are higher they will avoid them (imo). But if you just try to lead people away from drugs by not portraying them in any kind of media or by not talking about them, it won't work. You can't just ignore the problem and pretend it doesn't exist in order to stop it.

Rape scenes are supposed to make you uncomfortable. They're supposed to make you queasy and upset, that's the point, to show how horrible they are.

That reminds me, though, my final essay for English my junior year was about censorship. It pertained mostly to censorship in literature like certain books being banned in different places, but the same general argument can apply to other things too.

I'm against censorship of all kinds, so that's exactly my view. I don't think rape scenes or discussions of rape should be censored because I feel that it's like "head in the sand" logic. Silence on the subject is more damaging, in my opinion.

Too scared to read Berserk because I know I'll fall in love with Griffith and his prettyboy face... but then his madness and heel face turn happens and he turns into literal Satan and hurts people who care about him. :(
I think it's interesting what he's doing now... he seems to be helping everyone and making a paradise on Earth for everyone, but he's still the demon in disguise. No idea what his endgame is, but we'll probably never see it at this rate. Miura will die of old age.

I don't like censorship, but I also think you don't need to show or say certain things just because you can. Restraint. Be an adult about it, do it only when it's essential...otherwise you come off as a kid who learned how to curse for the first time.

But that would also depend on the context. Complicated.

On an unrelated note, and the more important one: I am going to make cookies. Should I make sugar cookies or chocolate chip cookies?

Chocolate chip. Sugar cookies are only for Christmas.

I'd watch an anime about people on here. Just have to figure out who would fit what archetypes.

I'd be the somewhat cold, tsundere childhood friend girl in class who you're afraid to approach.

I actually agree with EYS. As long as there is a big red disclaimer beforehand so victims of rape/sexual assault won't have to watch it.

Movies like that and Glory don't really faze me when it comes to race since I personally don't treat people differently based on what race(s) they may be.

Glory is my favorite movie.

I agree with you on that. A lot of programs like to stick in violence, profanity and sex just because they can. Sometimes it's just completely gratuitous.

There's a fine line to walk, and sometimes it's difficult to tell a good story that involves these themes without it seeming excessive.

HBO is famous for this. There are some adult shows on HBO which do sexual or violent themes really well, but then there are others that just stick in tons of sex and violence just because they can. It's not always done well.

and yeah, disclaimers are always respectable. I fully understand that.

I was all kinds of ashamed watching Avatar, cause I keep a couple of blue people in my basement and only let them out when I need the house cleaned.

I set them free, though, don't worry. I am reformed.
