I'm just saying what I read about how Toriyama wanted him. He WANTED him to be a dick obsessed with training and fighting too self-absorbed to care for his son all that well, apparently.
up to over 9000 with the abridged series

"Bye son!"

nah, he's a saiyan. they live to fight and don't know what to do when it comes to human families

just sayin'

Free speech is what it is. It means that people that are assholes can be assholes, if they so desire.

It also means that people can tell those assholes what kind of assholes they are.
And that's exactly what I support- telling those assholes they're assholes and refusing to think their message is kosher.

I never meant to imply they shouldn't be "allowed" by law to say it- however, they shouldn't want to, nor should they say it from a moral standpoint. Legally, sure, they should be able to, where it isn't covered by catcalling laws, as you pointed out it might not be.

You can't sit here and tell me that someone plans to go out in a tight or revealing or suggestive outfit does not expect to get catcalls and sexual attention. NOBODY is that naïve. You knew what was coming and you did it anyway.

The only "professional" cosplay is in movies and TV shows, and if Hugh Jackman didn't look ripped for his Wolverine parts he would get completely shitted on because that would be out of character and inaccurate, and ruin the costume. Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer got all kinds of criticism because they were too small and skinny to be Batman.

I think if a fat girl wants to cosplay Sailor Moon she should totally go for it. But her body is probably going to offend people around her. What do you say to that? Don't look? If they're supposed to turn a blind eye to her, why isn't she supposed to turn a deaf ear to them? See what I'm saying?

You only want to censor what offends you personally, you're not thinking about people with different opinions and that maybe yours is the wrong one.

Of course it's "expected", but that's because it's a societal norm. Societal norms, however, are not always healthy nor what is best for people.

And you do realize there are cosplay contests that are held all around the world and attended by thousands, yes? Hell there's a huge one held each year called the World Cosplay Summit that has each round held at different places around the world with finals in Japan. I'd consider people who make it there professional, much as pro gamers are professionals in their hobby.

A person's body should not be offensive to others. It is their body. They should not be shamed for it. A body is not something they can help, at least not without weeks to months of lifestyle change or expensive surgery. A person CAN help what they say. And it's completely free and requires little discipline.

As I said to Rance... yes, people should be legally allowed to say such things. But I'm of the opinion that there are things protected by free speech law that should be lambasted and disallowed by any given community.

Like, I think a church should be perfectly allowed to ban an asshole from its premises if he insists God isn't real. Same deal here. Ban assholes who catcall girls at cons and reprimand/ban assholes who post lascivious comments on cosplay photos.

If a person is allowed to say something offensive, others are allowed to take offense and push them out of their community until they change their ways.

tl;dr
Legally you're allowed to be an asshole. But why would you want to be and what's wrong with people not putting up with an asshole's bulls***?

Ok, I accept that. I'm still a bit iffy on things you say such as that kind of free speech being "disallowed by the community." To me that sounds like you still are in favor of making those comments illegal. However, I think we've reached an agreement.

People can be assholes and say asshole things. They shouldn't, but you can't stop them. There is zero excuse for putting anyone down for any reason, but short of inventing some mass mind control device and making everyone accepting and kind, there ain't nothing you're gonna be able to do about it.

So when you go out wearing revealing clothes or whatever might draw unwanted attention, be aware of that. There is always going to be people who feel the need to voice their opinions, there are always going to be people who feel the need to defend them, but there are also just as many people who either support you or don't give a ****.

It's unfortunate, but that harsh reality is shitty people exist.

The ultimate victory is to just not give a ****. Be 500 pounds and wear a Lara Croft outfit and don't give a ****. Be a pretty, fit blonde girl and wear dental floss and give no shits. Be a dude and dress up as Jessica Rabbit, no shits should be given.

Well, Rance, it depends on what you mean by illegal. I'm just saying if someone says assholish things people don't like, the someone shouldn't be shocked if they all decide to ignore the someone- and forcibly remove you from situations where the someone isn't wanted.

When I say community in these cases I am not speaking of a community like a township or city or country. More like a given establishment or website.

I don't think like jailtime or monetary penalization is necessary for mere words unless they're incredibly hostile to the point of hate speech or harassment, but if people don't wish to associate with you for your words, that's on them and they're in their right to as you're in the right to say things without harassing others.

But I'm glad I was able to articulate myself well enough.
