And then some people say Hideyoshi goaded him, saying he'd support it, and backstabbed him.

Really Nobunaga was a **** so if his entire retainer band outside of his inner circle hated him I wouldn't be shocked lmao.

:( I miss when this band was good. Not that they're not good now, but they were much better in the beginning..before American metal hit them with a brick

another thing that there's no definitive evidence is WHY Mitsuhide betrayed him,i've heard lots of things from Nobunaga insulting his wife,to killing his Mom,to just plain wanting to take Nobunaga's place
Check the old Samurai Archives forum. They actually had an in-depth discussion on the "mom" thing. I think they agreed that it was bunk.

I honestly feel completely at a loss when discussing Sengoku-Jidai history. There are hardly any good English sources at all on the period, and I don't know any Japanese. At least with Three Kingdoms history there is a decent amount of information available in English which a layman can use to educate themselves. SJ history feels like it's completely in the realm of experts.

to be entirely fair, it looked like you were insulting him too. You probably shouldn't use ad hominem insults if you're concerned about being attacked back.

Problem is..it's in Japanese. Seriously check Japanese wikipedia on sengoku period...and it'll probably be done.

I don't trust Wikipedia for anything. It's not a valid source.

The only time I will ever look at Wikipedia is if it lists other sources which are more reliable. At that point I will try to track down those sources.

With that having been said, I don't know Japanese anyways so the option of using Wikipedia JP is unavailable to me regardless.

Edit: it has extensive info on general for example Nobuyuki. He was nicknamed Lion of Shinano, his height(he is WAY WAY more taller than Yukimura).

Japanese wikipeda about famous sengoku period people are actually very detailed and completed. It's a shame that there aren't many translators working to translate them to English.

Nah, that's legit. It does suck right now. I need to work on my languages. I'm more concerned about Mandarin and Classical Chinese for the current future. Japanese will have to be a side project at best. I don't really have the time to invest in studying it while doing two jobs and continuing school.

That's the problem generally. It's in Japanese and it's wikipedia meaning some troll will edit it.

But what else can you get more extensive info orher than Wikipedia if there no sources left. It's just in Japanese that's the effing problem.

I wish I could speak Japanese. I need to look up words nigh constantly, no way could I handle a spoken conversation. @_@

I honestly wish more material was available in English. I agree Rance, it does seem like Sengoku era history is the realm of experts and Japanese speakers. ;;

Well the thing is, I'm not just talking about websites. I'm also talking about books too. There's only a few good english books on Sengoku and a whole lot of kuso. At least with books about the period after the Han dynasty's fall, I can think of several historians off the top of my head who write good stuff in English, the most prolific of which being Dr. Rafe de Crespigny. There's just no equivalent to that with SJ history, so there's a lot of garbage, urban myths, etc. about that period bandied around as fact. It's really hard to sift through all the nonsense at times.

Anyways, good night all.

Like... Turnbull is often regarded as bunk by serious historians but he's THE most prolific English-language writer on Sengoku-era history. I wish someone else was nearly so prolific.

I was actually literally going to post almost the exact same thing. Turnbull is the equivalent of de Crespigny for this period, but the difference is that Turnbull makes SO many mistakes and writes so much crap. He also copies and pastes a lot of the stuff he writes across several of his books. He's just not great at all. de Crespigny is a much better historian and writer, and his work is much more professional.

But hey, the good news is that this is totally a niche for serious academicians. If you know Japanese, are able to learn how to read older Japanese writing and want to write books on this period, you are not going to have much competition.

ok but seriously bedtime for me.
