DW4 had the best music overall. It had a lot of variety in styles and set a good atmosphere, especially the YTR stage. The rest of the games have way too much speedrock and it gets tiresome for every single stage.

Although Blast From the East from DW3 was the most hype song.

DW4 had one of best Hulao Gate and Guandu stages.

There was something about the design of the map in DW2's Hulao Gate which has it be my favourite to this day.

I liked DW4's end part of the map, but I thought the start was rather bland personally.

I liked 4's Kingdom Mode because you could pick any character in the kingdom, essentially giving everyone a full story mode. I hate how I'm forced to pick from three or four guys I don't care for in 8, and it's almost never the same ones twice. I like to go through the entire story with the same character.

I only played as Edit Officers aside from DW4 Zhenji.

4's Kindgom mode having those Extra stages was definitely the right call for it too, gives you a goal every time.

I mean you could skip straight to the final stage of the selection and it could dramatically change how the battle played out (Lu Bu appearing at Guan Du for instance if you skip Xia Pi), which was a nice feature.

Then obviously doing it specific ways unlocked the extra stages, and it meant playing through the same campaign could be switched up a bit, it was a good choice for that system.

Unlocking Jiang Wei annoyed me.

Something about it just felt so open and free range. DW3's Hulao as well. I loved starting at different parts of the map depending on the kingdom I chose, or if I wanted to I could meet up with Cao Cao or fall back to help Liu Bei out. It was great.

Hulao now, and most other stages, feel very linear and point A to point B.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Really one of my biggest issues with the latest games, even when the stages themselves aren't linear, you are sent on these focused and scripted objectives, so it might as well be

I loved the level where you have to rescue the Qiaos from Dong Zhuo. That was a fun little extra level.

OMM: Urgh..

Have a guts saying KOEI gonna reveals DWSF3rd..should've been SW Strikeforce.. but oh well knowing the "Winner" of Blast Poll. It looks more like a spinoff addition so it is fitting.

Yeah the stages are way too linear lately. It seems like in an effort to add more varied terrain, they've turned the stages into twisting confusing hallways like SW.

That's probably done on purpose too, since big open fields take a lot more processing power to avoid pop-in than small corridors. It's the same thing they did for DWG3 except less obvious.

I also liked how the PS2 games had different troop ranks from simple Solider, to Captain, to Major, First Bow, Elite Bodyguards, etc. and they moved in smaller groups in formation like a real squad.

DW6 also was nice in that the troops and officers moved around the map a lot to meet their own objectives instead of sitting and waiting for you to come get them

I like to feel like there's a real battle going on around my character instead of a thousand guys sitting around waiting for me to do something.

One thing I didn;t like about DW4 was the attack lock on, in that once you did a charge attack your string was forced in the direction you attacked initially. A lot of attacks were wasted by accident. DW5 did this better by allowing you to aim anywhere.

That did suck, but I feel like DW5 didn't balance it out on the enemy's side and so the free movement during the attacks kind of made the game a lot easier. You could just keep swinging and turning until you hit your guy, nothing really left you vulnerable.
