Direct Copy paste of the definition of fanservice Scottie read it and weep - In general, fan service refers to scenes designed to excite or titillate the viewer. This can include scantily-clad outfits, cleavage shots, panty shots, nude scenes (shower scenes especially), etc. Some broader definitions also include things like cool mecha, big explosions, battle scenes, etc. Basically, if it has little plot-redeaming value, but makes the viewer sit up and take notice, it's probably fan service in one form or another.

Only characters with fans should be in games, but since there is weapon switch on make fans usable weapon.

Most wanted characters like Yuan Shu will never make it in then. People are probably especially getting fed up of the start to end point and would want some more focus around before The Three Kingdoms split.

And KOEI would be making Lu Bu a DLC character. That will surely damage a lot of fans and make them think it's craving money alone.

I'm curious what makes a character a "gorilla".

"Long shots of robots in mecha shows, sexual elements, violent episode-long fight scenes, and emphasis on shipping can all be considered fan service as they are specifically aimed at pleasing the fans of any given show"

How does that disprove what anyone is saying? Fan service often is and can be sexual, but it needn't be. It just means catering to the target audience. So in a shonen anime, you'd have big fight scenes that add nothing to the plot that a shorter fight wouldn't but look cool. That would be fanservice.

But that's what the reason for even making the games is. Money. Explains the constant DLC being released game after game.

Also am I the only one who thinks it kind of prejudiced to call a character a 'gorilla' for their facial features? Maybe I'm overreacting... It just seems like white privilege to me, glorifying what is considered pretty in western culture but shaming and dehumanizing that which isn't.

Like it's one thing to call Hideyoshi a monkey or gorilla as he's meant to look like a monkey. But for characters like Ding Feng or Meng Huo who are just sorta more big-featured? Ehh...

Fine Wikipedia then here it says the EXACT SAME THING - Fan service (ファンサービス fan sābisu?),fanservice, or service cut (サービスカットsābisu katto?),[1][2] is a term originating from anime and manga fandom for material in a series which is intentionally added to please the audience.[3] It is about "servicing" the fan[4]– giving the fans "exactly what they want".[5]Fan service usually refers to "gratuitoustitillation", but can also refer to intertextualreferences to other series.

okay cool, but you're missing the point that it doesn't necessarily have to be about anything sexual

and also, if the games aren't about fanservice, then what do you call all the girls' DLC costumes in SW4?

"Pleasing the FANS" key point there,so if FANS buy the game it makes sense that they'd want to keep the FANS happy and alienating the fans of a particular faction is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE to "giving fans what they want"

It seems a bit offensive calling darker complexion characters like Goemon gorilla since it could be been construed as they are only being called that based on skin color.
