Here in Louisiana, if something's so damn good, taste wise, we sometimes say "makes you want to Slap ya mama"... it's also a name for a company that makes Creole and Cajun spices.

We don't actually slap our mothers (and live to tell the tale).
My word, such odd vernacular.

I wonder if there are any phrases we use around here none of you have heard of.

With the calls I caption from those in the north and New England?

Yep. Every GD day I'm like 'the... the **** did this person just say?'

I need to educate myself in the ways of the 'Not South', honestly.

@DG- I know, right? Something about Louisiana and Texas breeds the types of mothers that tolerate no shenanigans from no one. My mother's the same, but then again, my mother is so awesome and sweet and you'd have to be a monster to want to harm a single hair on her head.

Or suicidal.

My mom also has it going on, according to a popular song.

We call "shotgun" for the front seat

We call it "pop" not soda

We say something expensive is "spendy"

"Windy" road means a road with many turns

"Caught" and "Cot" sound the same where I'm from

Apparently we say "I fingered him" instead of "gave him the finger"

"Jacked" for excited

"Down the Bayou/Up the Bayou"

Bayou= Mississippi River

If you're going north to Alexandria, Shreveport or Natchitoches, you're going "Up the Bayou", if you're going to New Orleans, Grand Isle and anything south of Baton Rouge, you're doing "Down the Bayou".

Of course you've got to remember times are changing Chibi if we punished our kids the way our mamas punished us we'd likely get arrested. When I was a kid it was perfectly okay to make your kid's ass red from spanking,it was perfectly okay to smack them in the mouth for cussing or mouthing off . nowadays people are scandalized if you even raise your voice too loudly to your kid

Its more of a rural Ontario and Prairies thing, Montreal is French Canada which is quite separate culturally

Montreal's pretty cool ^_^ I went to Ottawa for exchange in university and we went to Montreal once in a while. Great food, great vibes, foreign but not completely foreign (currency's the same, obviously  ) watched some Habs on the TV (they lost to the Rangers 5-2 though :ph43r: ) they weren't happy about that game

Also checked out the old city, mt. st. joseph and some old bookstores, found some good military history books for $2 CDN  (A first-hand account of WW2 from the Russian side with a British socialist journalist attached to the Red Army? Hell yes! :ph43r: )
