it is odd. wrapping my long ass fingers around the pencil...but my hand writing is pretty nice, so it all works out.

some teachers just shouldn't be teachers.

2nd grade teacher would always get mad at me for it, saying it wasn't the correct way and I needed to learn how to do it correctly. Whenever I tried to do it "correctly" my hand writing was atrocious. I always felt like **** for it. I told my mom one day and she got pissed and told my teacher **** off...to this day I still hold my pencils and pens like that. I won. :smugracia:
when i started art school they told us not to hold our pencils like we do when writing, and taught us a different way of holding them (kinda like how you would hold a joint) and at first my drawings were AWFUL i couldnt control it at all, but eventually you get used to it. its not too hard to train yourself to hold it a different way
that being said, it really doesnt matter obviously how you hold a pencil :kemari:

What's wrong, Chibi?
Just had to reformat a lot of the chapters I posted in succession for my fanfic. It's stupid and time consuming. However, I think it's done. Might take 30 minutes to show, but I doubt anyone will jump to it so quickly anyways.

I tried to train myself to hold the pencil the way everyone else does, cause for a long time I so self conscious about it. It was so weird to people...my long ass fingers literally wrapping themselves around a pencil.

After a while though, I gave up. It wasn't working, it literally hurt my fingers to writing the "right" way. And my hand writing was awful.

So i just learned not to care. I have nice handwriting, people are surprised and assume it's a woman's hand writing <_<

but i'm proud of my nice handwriting! And as long as its legible, it shouldn't matter how I hold my pencil! Ms. Yarabrough! :sakichi:

holding pencil with middle finger and thumb and resting it on your hand? Then moving pencil with your fingers?

I'd be interested in reading it.

no, holding it between index and thumb, and then using other fingers and palm whenever necessary for counterbalance, its to make full use of shoulder and elbow movements, so you rely less on fingers and wrists

@Kami: hilariously my handwriting is rather awful, most poepel always surprised to find that out , but most artists i meet have horrible handwriting lmao cant even read my teacher's writing half the time

Oh, you mean drawing on those big pads or in general?

:itsuki: I have terrible handwriting. When I write, i hold pencil tight for some reason. I'm so loosey goosey when drawing though.

Didn't know there was a wrong way to hold a pencil.

Then again some kid in a lot of my classes had one of those bendy shaped pens to give him the extra grip he needed.

A River's Final Meandering

Same fanfic, different site. Because exposure.

Also, I write and draw funny as well. I hold my utensils like a left handed person would with my right hand, and it psyches people out. I'll be writing and they're like OMG you're left handed and I'm like, no I'm ambidextrous and then freak them out more by switching hands.

It's a fun trick.

i mean its not for always, when you wanna go precise its best to switch back to writing style, but the drawing style helps with broader drawing
its SOOO much easier to make straight lines and perfect circles when using your shoulder to move the pencil rather than wrist

One of my art instructors hated me because of the way I held the pencil. Can't blame him, I guess.

I lost all my interest in art in school the second the teacher started singling me out and picking on me.

I mean someTIMES I was a little s**t in that class like when some girl tripped me in class and I slapped her upside the head but at the same time the whole class liked to gang up on me and he would turn a blind eye??

That's my time in middle school. Sure, turn a blind eye when I'm being bullied, but send me to the principal's office when I retaliate. I see how it is.

Edit: I mean, I guess I'm just suppose to take it and deal with it? Nah, screw that. Send kids home with black eyes.
