Megara, also not a princess, but a sharped tongue spitfire that's worthy of being called a god damn Goddess Queen.

Make it happen, Disney.

Mulan's not a princess.

Mulan's an effin' badass who saved China.
She's still an official disney princess Chibi lol Google it what I find strange is that Mulan a soldier,Ariel a Mythical creature and Belle a Commoner are classified as Disney Princesses yet Kiara who actually was born royal ISN'T simply for being a lion

Want to know what the real life women of Atlantis were like

should've included Ariel
Ariel is a princess

Belle married into royalty, making her a princess

Mulan and Elsa are the only ones who arent actually princesses. One being a general's wife and one being a queen.

Pocahontas, too, I guess. Given that I dont think native american tribes used those kind of titles. But I aint no historian.

Disney's definition of a princess is more like 'generic term we use to say Human Female Protagonist', it seems.

well, its a brand. It's a literal official brand, one of the requirements is literally "princess is popular and their movie was successful"

Jasmine, despite not being the titular character of Aladdin was still made a princess. But unlike Megera, she was popular among little girls which meant she was marketable.

no one wants a lunch box with Megera or Jane on it

By that rule, Jasmine shouldn't be a Disney Princess since the focus was Aladdin instead of her.

Kiara, is another example. That movie was a deemed a failure by Disney. So of course they aren't going to bother with her any further than they had to.
Also she's a lion.

Giselle is the best "Disney Princess" tbh. But they're being stingy so forget it.

They would have to pay Amy Adams for her likeness

or redesign her entirely. But I don't think they feel Giselle is really worth the effort...

I like Pocahontas for being unique in terms of ending since she lacks any of that marriage ending. Part of me wish there's another Disney Princess movie like that they didn't officially marry like Merida from Brave.

Nah, you misunderstand.

She's a human female protagonist, protagonist doesn't have to be the main character per say, simply a female who's on supportive side of the story. Aladdin's story wouldn't have been jack **** without Jasmine, so it goes without saying that yeah, she's clearly a protagonist.

Not the main character, but important enough. Also, an actual ******* princess. ;)

Enchanted is my favorite but i don't think it needs a sequel. I'm worried about Enchanted 2 tbh. I can only see it about Giselles's hubbie ex-wife coming back...but it's not really Disney for that Desperate Housewive-like drama movie.

But anyways, I don't care much for Disney's flinging around of the term Princess, to be honest. In some cases they use it too loosely and yet are still stingy/strict about it to where it only makes sense commercially.

Slap "Princess" on the merchandise and sell, sell, sell... let's ignore the fact that Elsa's a step above all those other paltry little twits and is a god damn Queen and deserves to be treated with respect and honor!

Jane was a major character in Tarzan yet she never received that title. I felt Disney choose whoever they wanted to be a Disney Princess.

Was Tarzan really that successful or marketable though?

This is a serious question.

I forgot she even existed to be honest.

IIRC, it's more of the fact that Disney's contract for using Tarzan's property. If they force Jane as Princess, they sure run into trouble like they plan with Giselle, because it is timed.

They choose who is profitable to be a Disney Princess. So the classics, the early Disney renaissance princesses, Merida, and now Elsa (even though she's a queen.....)
TBH I think the only reason Mulan and Tiana are considered for the line is because they know they can sell more through representation. If they were white, I doubt they'd be there.

... then again Pocahontas seems to have been all but forgotten. May be for the best with everyone starting to realize how whitewashed the movie was.

Oh, right... I forgot about that bit, Ryo.

Copyright laws and what have you. Always make a mess out of everything.

Tiana at least married a prince, so... I guess that's as close as she needs to get.

I remember watching Mulan with my grandmother

I already read ROTK so I was like "hey, they didn't have rockets in 300 AD!" and "Why are there Guilin ricefields and rock formations directly under the Great Wall?"

That said, Mulan was actually very popular in China/Hong Kong when it came out. People were thrilled just to have a positive portrayal of classical China in some form from Disney, no matter how stereotyped it was.

And the music was awesome

"I'll make a man out of you" goes really well with Dynasty/Samurai warriors  :P
