And srsly, he doesn't deserve it just because he's Community Manager. But people are so quick to blame him when he's not responsible for it.

Rome Musou like I said earlier.... Weapons: Gladius and scutum Spatha and round shield Dual Gladii Pila Bow and arrow Harp: Nero! Extending pike (since warriors games are really over the top). Greek character Cincinnatus: Uses a farming rake like Lu Su! Tutorial "leader", can be used in free mode. Julius Caesar: Can utilize his laurel wreath of victory as a weapon. Dressed with floating red cape. Voiced like a lighter version of Cao Cao, will crack a few jokes now and then. Worries about his baldness. Labienus: An angry, vengeful man. Has Fa Zheng's eyes and a scowl. Later betrays Caesar to fight for Pompey (so two color sets) but is a strong fighter either way. Uses a Spatha as he is a cavalry leader. Scipio Africanus: Uses Xenophon's Anabasis as his weapon a la Chen Gong. Ghostly legionaries do the fighting for him as he directs with his fingers. Calm and collected. First appears at Trebbia to set up an escape route for the defeated Romans. Ends his "musou mode" at Zama, obviously. Pompey: Uses his general's cape like Fa Zheng. Is fair and treats subordinates well, and listens to advice, maybe a little too much. Pushed into battle at Pharsalus and is defeated by Caesar. Octavian: Lu Xun style character. Subject of a million teen girl fanfics. Uses pila to throw at a distance, kind of like Wen Yang, maybe. Anthony: Cocky dude who dual wields gladii! Fights topless! (its a warriors game...) Corbulo: Very stern and quiet. Uses a Roman whip as his weapon, to signify the strict discipline in his army. Cleopatra: Sexy Egyptian vixen, leads the Egyptian faction. Uses a lot of snake motifs. Dressed in very fanservice costumes and has a combination of Zhen Ji and Koshosho in personality. Hannibal: Firey and smart Carthaginian. Calls Elephant to ride instead of a horse. On foot he uses throwing darts (just weapon ideas guys...). Has a long campaign featuring a hypothetical where Hasdrubal reaches Hannibal in southern Italy by fighting and winning at the Metaurus. To unlock the hypothetical Metaurus, Hannibal must ensure the Elephants survive in the first scenario (crossing the alps, will require a lot of babysitting). During the Trebbia, he must personally slay Scipio Africanus and not allow him to set the Roman escape route. Finally, at Cannae, he must not let Varro escape. Requires precise timing. Hypo leads him to conquer Rome. Historical will mean he has to fight at Zama.... Vercingetorix: Passionate barbarian leader. Uses a double handed axe. fights bare chested. Has wild hair and wild mustache, Gan Ning's running musou. Caligula: Conniving and cruel little *******. Uses Yuan Shao's voice but much more annoying and evil. Uses dual daggers Nero: Fat and perverted. He plays the Dong Zhuo role but with a high pitched voice like Kojiro's. Uses the harp as his weapon and constantly refers to beauty, poetry, etc. Scenarios include the great fire of rome where the player must first escape, then defeat Nero personally. |

I don't think the buzz was enough in the west, and KOEI had a bad name there as well. Reviewers had bad mouthed KOEI constantly from DW5 onward, until DW7 and WO3 slightly won them back but it was too late. The reputation of KOEI in the west took a hit. Yes, the DW games were repetitive, but madden/FIFA weren't? (and I LIKE sports games! :XD)

And nowadays post gamergate and kotaku, etc the gamers don't trust the reviewers anymore, so the warriors games in the west could get a fresh start.... kinda (at least the spinoffs, Hyrule seemed fairly well recieved in the west, and Wo3 got some positive reviews too, the first positive reviews on "official review sites" for warriors games since DW3 ). But I think gamers today don't trust the IGNs and Gamespots of the world like they used to back in the 2000-2007 era

Sports games are not repetitive because you can't mash the same buttons every game and win like you can with DW. You actually have to pay attention to what you're doing, especially when you're playing against another player, who can hit you with different tactics and reactions every single time. |

picking Nohr made me feel like an ass hole I really wanted to be all "look, i dont know you people but, these ones over here? They're the family I know and if my 'father' is in fact evil, then I can't abandon my siblings and leave them behind with him" Instead its all "Sorry...but they are the only family I've ever known" |

I think no 360 release in the US killed it too. 360 was really popular around that time. It must be a US thing to rag on Koei. Games magazine I used to read were always fair(ish) about the Warriors games in saying that while repetitive but still good fun. DW7 managed to crack top 10 games for the week in the UK when it came out too |

I know I LIKE sports games even though a lot of "hardcore gamers" tend to hate on them even if they're objectively good products like the NHL series since around NHL 08 or so. Whine whine whine whine whine I think the DW series can use an overhaul of its gameplay. Or, just make the enemies actually harder. The AI in Gauntlet mode in WO3 is smarter than in the main series. If they can do that for Gauntlet, why not the main series? Since Tecmo is part of their team, they can add in Ninja Gaiden style button combinations as well and make the game at least somewhat harder. But I dunno. Japanese fans of the series are invested in the characters and "bond interactions" rather than the gameplay itself. Otakus also buy all the music CDs and figures and stuff. KOEI's catering to their core JPN otaku and fujoshi fanbase and ignoring the west, almost .

I mean like yeah the games are repetitive but that's the narrative of the game series like? All games are like that if you know what I mean. Just some are more guilty of not improving on their formulas more than others |

Yes, No 360 release in the US at the time would definitely kill it, because the 360 was the more popular of the two "hardcore" consoles in the US. American reviewers HATED Dynasty Warriors. They LOATHED it, everything got like 3/10 or 4/10 until DW7 it got upped a bit, and then all of a sudden WO3 and DW8 they praised it again but it was too late. Now, the reviews are kinda like they are in Britain as you said. (Repetitive but good cheesy fun). I think that's fair. Its not groundbreaking or anything, just button mashing cheesy anime fun
