A disappointing response in that it is easily refuted by people who wish the government to have the right to encroach on freedoms. It isn't about protecting the rights of fictional women. It's about preventing the mindset that leads to violence towards women to propagate.

Let's not pretend that media is innocent in the corruption of minds. There's a reason the ad industry exists in the first place. I mean if you can prove that the ad industry doesn't work at all, then maybe you can start saying that no, media doesn't effect people's mindsets.

Now I'm not for a ban. I'm all for artistic freedom. But a lot of people in the comments seem to act like there's nothing harmful about works that depict rape or sexual violence in a positive light and that people who criticize such works as harmful should be silent. That's troubling to me. It's okay if you enjoy it (I myself enjoy Senran Kagura, which has Katsuragi trying to grope everything that moves), but that so many people act like it isn't a bad thing is ... I don't know. It makes me lose faith in humanity.

Worship of Japan for anti-censorship shiz to differentiate fiction and reality is ridiculous. So many "Ooooh, burn." "UN sucks and it must be banned forever" and "Only Japanese have common sense nowadays therefore Japanese made me have faith in humanity again" stuff like they are embracing their inner weeaboo side :o

So while America was bigging up Leo to win an Oscar the past 20 years you're telling me Jackie Chan has never won an Oscar let alone been nominated for one???

@ america fix this
EXID's new song is actually a Dasoni comeback :kasugasm: :kasugasm: :kasugasm:

I don't think any of Jackie Chan's films are Oscar worthy TBH  highly entertaining though :P
As for censorship in Japan...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_in_Japan

http://transformativeworks.org/news/censorship-problems-faced-anime-and-manga-fans

Abe's government is also very conservative and likely to be pro-censorship in general :ph43r: :kurokan:

Like I said I'm not pro-censorship. I'm all for being against a ban of "questionable materials" if no one was harmed in their production. But like, "hurr, it's not real" such a shitty argument. This is NOT an attempt to "defend fictional women while ignoring real women". It's an attempt to uproot the problem of men thinking they are owed women's bodies and should have power over them at it's source, or one of its sources. So if this person is going to try to rebut, they should try to recognize why the law is being suggested in the first place.

I wasn't rebutting you Mew, I was just posting about censorship in Japan, in general :ph43r: including Manga, there was some ordinance in Tokyo putting a bunch of restrictions on Manga by that crusty old motherf***er Ishihara Shintaro :realangry: :kurokan: and the Manga community went WILD. Mind you, this was Japan, so the protests themselves were very mild mannered, but Japan is not so "free" as American weeaboos think :realangry: . Seriously, you can't use your phone on the train there, those who throw the wrong garbage into the wrong can should instantly commit seppuku  and accidentally sneezing in public will earn you the stares of death. :realangry:

I understand what you're saying about the effects of media, Mew, but you sound like American preachers or something about how "them tentacle rape cartoons are corruptin' our youngin's "

I wasn't talking to you Cao, the person I'm talking about is Kumiko Yamada. If it wasn't clear.

And it's not really the same thing. Criticism is not meant solely to change work, but to change minds. Pastors preaching stuff like that are flat out condemning it and saying it shouldn't exist. I'm not saying it shouldn't exist. I'm saying people, when consuming it need to be responsible, and we need to make sure people who do consume it know that it's not okay to do those sorts of things in real life.

They are. It's less of a problem as, let's face it, it's a fairly new idea, so many women don't treat men poorly even when they consume media that objectifies them, as it isn't an ingrained cultural idea to objectify men sexually (well besides effeminate men in certain cultures, but on the whole in most cultures, men just weren't sexualized).

Or well, men as sexual objects. Men have been seen as disposable pawns since the dawn of warfare....

Yay, I've been ninja'd. Again. By Cow this time. And I was trying to reach out to Eni.

Geez. Human Nezha is cute. I swear Human Nezha's more liked than Cyborg Nezha (just because Cyborg Nezha beat L Bu so easily). Yet he doesn't seem to get as much fan art regardless of where site I go.

But some people are definitely picking on him for it. I remembered how harassed I was before Nezha was given a human form. Simply for liking Cyborg Nezha.

But luckily for me not all L Bu fans are petty.

But now I actually like his human self more, the hate for him has died down...

I only take issue with it because it evidently leads to objectifying real women. Otherwise I really wouldn't care. I love pretty anime babes, I can understand why people would just like them aesthetically rather than for all of them.

Well for starter, Rabid Fujoshi objectifies real life people and pairs them even when they said they are straight.
