I find it really funny that the Nohrian side seems a lot less ignorant and hateful towards Hoshidans in Conquest, than Hoshidans feel towards Nohrians in Birthright. Like in Birthright a lot of people seem doubtful of Silas, but in Conquest, they kind of just accept Kaze. Interesting. |

The Nohrians are all great people. Their ruler is just a douchebag, and all of them even acknowledge that.
I actually thought there was a thread on her already since apparently some Mana Khemia character that Trina posted has that name too. some other ateliers I like which I don't think have threads: Harry-that goofy explorer and braggart from escha & logy and shallie who looks like he's going on a safari. Katla-The merchant. That's the best description I can give of her. Edited by Rance, Thu Mar 3, 2016 8:18 pm.

That's because Hoshido has a reason to be distrustful, they're the ones being invaded. And Hoshido has Takumi to spread those bad vibes. Edited by Eni, Thu Mar 3, 2016 8:19 pm.

Hoshido sounds a lot like typical Asian stereotype in current day, Nohr is pretty much Western stereotype. Takumi = Zhou Cang Edited by Ryō Genken, Thu Mar 3, 2016 8:22 pm.

I'm really glad Hoshido exists though because I actually kinda dig the Japanese aesthetics and motifs in Fire Emblem. It's really interesting to me how they turned the swordmaster class into samurai, for instance. I also like the animal spirit tomes, clubs and other motifs. Nohr is more like typical Fire Emblem archetypes while Hoshido seems really different for the series. As I've said before, Hoshido is also great because it has encouraged Nintendo to change up the usual Fire Emblem story a little bit and to introduce some really unique musical themes as well. Hoshido doesn't seem like a bad or boring faction like Shu-Han does in KOEI games. If Shu-Han in DW was anything like Hoshido is, I'd probably like them a lot more. Fates just does everything right imo. it feels like it combines everything that made fire emblem great before and adds a lot of new things so it feels like a totally new game. My favorite Fire Emblem games before were FE7 and FE9 but Fates is better than both imo. Edited by Rance, Thu Mar 3, 2016 8:25 pm.

Both sides are still at war though, so you would think they would be at least a little distrustful of Kaze but nope. Every single support I've done with him has been pretty chill, even with Camilla who is described as Hoshidan-hater. However with Silas, a lot of people are incredibly weary of him and make him prove his trust. Both sides abducted royalty from the other side so I think that point doesn't really fit. idk it's minor, but interesting. Fates is definitely my favorite FE from a gameplay perspective, but the story hasn't been that outstanding. I like it better than Awakening I guess. RD and PoR were just so good for me. I really need to go back and play the GBA games though. |

I agree with you on that. The gameplay is where FE: Fates shines, but that's ultimately the main thing I care about. I never thought the main plot lines in FE were all that impressive. In Fe7, i did really like the plots with Lyndis and the romance between Ninian and Eliwood. Fe9 also had an amazingly atrocious villain and a pretty interesting overall story while FE8 had a very sympathetic villain. However, most Fe games are usually pretty by the books in terms of overall plot. To me the real story in FE always comes from character interactions/supports. that's part of the reason why I found Radiant Dawn so BLAH, especially in comparison to FE9. If Radiant Dawn had real support conversations, it would have been such a better game. I always held out hope that maybe they'd re-release an upgraded version of the game on portables which added them. I think my problem with the story on Conquest is that it's so much filler before it gets to the main point. Even so, I still like the overall direction it takes and how it differs a lot from previous FE games. It also sets up interesting moral dilemmas as the protag knows that the actions he takes are the right ones, but still somewhat ethically dubious. On top of all that, I feel like the character interactions in Fates are fantastic. Since that's my main interest, I would rank Fates' story fairly highly overall. |

I mentioned esty in another thread (about marion). I don't care about filly though, to be honest. I don't think there's a thread about that awin dude either. He had the best story in escha & logy though, imo, despite being an otherwise sorta dull character. I forgot her name, but I also found that one nurse pretty funny. Her special finishing move made me laugh hard. Edited by Rance, Thu Mar 3, 2016 8:48 pm.

I always get his name wrong. I thought his name was Alwin or Alvin for the longest time as well. As a character I didn't like him much until that one part of the game where you go to the end of the world. Imo that was the single greatest part of Atelier Escha & Logy and possibly the most emotional section of any atelier game. |

They definitely added some interesting changes to the mix that I really really enjoy. I love the new Weapon triangles. Tomes and Bows feel a lot more useful than before. The shuriken/daggers I hope become a series mainstay. I really really like them. They are so useful for training your weaker units! The "Dual" weapons, the ones that reverse the Weapon Triangle, are some of my favorite weapons and really do come in handy. I think my favorite thing though is that this game, particularly Conquest, is actually really challenging. And not in a bloated this-is-luck-based difficult way that Awakening was, but in a genuinely challenging way. I love the different objectives, and with Conquest and the limited gold and EXP, it gets pretty hard having to bench people and make certain choices. It still baffles me that Radiant Dawn didn't have support conversations. I WANT A NEPH AND HEATHER SUPPORT NOW! http://tvcast.naver.com/v/772077 LDZ!!!! Wendy and Eric Nam duet!!!! One of my surprise characters from Nohr is definitely Leo. idk he didn't do anything for me from a design standpoint, but he was great in Birthright and he's even better in Conquest. What a pleasant surprise. Edited by dancingswan, Thu Mar 3, 2016 9:07 pm.

That name is just so awkward and easy to get wrong. I've confused it a billion times.
I actually like him better than Xander. Yes, Xander has a cool design and a stoic badass personality, but I like how Leo feels insecure about being in his brother's shadow. Leo feels like a more #relatable character. I also like how Leo can be a bit ruthless at times even though he is well-meaning. Xander is more like a typical European knight archetype, whereas Leo is pragmatic and cold at times, which makes him a more interesting character. Edited by Rance, Thu Mar 3, 2016 9:26 pm.
