Yeah, like I said Ryo, it seems to be a VERY American idea given the sort of mixing pot nation that we are, and a lot of people from other countries would love if foreigners tried to experience their culture as they see it as respectful, as opposed to a tourist who just gawks.

So I don't think there's a universal "right" way to feel about it.

Wait no..i think that IS cultural appropriation. In my place, batik or every traditional clothes worn by foreigner is respected IF it follows our Rules..that is especially the females must covered all of their body just like for example Muslim women.

So if you wore batik clothing that covers your body and not showing any skins, you'll be seen as respecting our culture.

But if the batik was made into swimsuit, you'll be criticized for devaluing the batik into a swimsuit.
