I'd go so far as to say that the very nature of the Tea Party is paradoxical.

"We hate big government"

Except:

-Social Security
-Medicare/Medicaid
-Aggressive foreign policy (considering many wanted to break the iran deal or even called for more war in the Middle East)

So they hate big government except they want the continuation of all three of the top government spending priorities. Gee...

Here's another article on the subject exposing the hypocrisy:

they protest big government while reaping its benefits. They're hardcore conservatives who aren't conservatives at all in reality.
I also read that in the tea party people are more motivated by cultural issues and "who's entitled to what" rather than hard right economic policies. They want medicare and social security, they just don't want them "foreigners" to get them. Hence the anti-immigration wave ended up being stronger than the cut taxes wave

At least they don't say "I'm moving to Canada"

The funny thing is, if you support social security at all, you already believe in the benefits of socialism to at least a small degree :XD

BTW out of curiosity, I keep hearing people are "fiscal conservative social liberal" and NEVER hear about the converse (fiscal liberal social conservative), do Americans like that still exist? The closest analogue I can think of is the RCC (catholic church). many RCC bishops have expressed dismay in capitalist policies, and obviously are socially conservative. But I dunno any Americans like that. Do they exist in Europe? Maybe Putin? (who actually built a lot of public housing with the oil money that's drying up, and obviously socially conservative).

That's basically it, but that's not the same thing as being "anti big government." Call it what it is: That's basically hardcore nationalism. The platform of the tea party sounds like libertarianism when really it's more akin to a populist Democrat or workingmen's party platform.

It's not very common because social conservativism in general is becoming less common. it does exist, particularly among religious minded minority groups who may be staunchly socially conservative but have concerns for social welfare.

There are pro-life Democrats for example. They're a minuscule group that has probably shrunk even further lately, but they exist.

yeah i was actually referring to them more for their hardcore nationalism than the economic aspect :P

I sometimes put tea party with nationalism rather than hard right economic policies. With trump's win, we can see the nationalists couldn't give a rat's ass about right wing talking points.

But, a serious question, any social conservative/fiscal liberals in existence?

Well I mean....
Do you choose the guy who promises to and will do it but will also do a bunch of other horrible things? Or the gal who will continue to do it but not do the other horrible things?

(Answer: Don't let people think Bernie's done yet, it's unlikely for him to win the nom at this point but if he wins all the remaining states and the superdelegates jump ship to him, he could.)

Well, Hillary could get indicted, either handing the presidency to top troll king :hey: or handing the nomination to Sanders automatically.

but, Bernie should run 3rd party, and Paul Ryan should run 4th party and have a 4 way election. What a doozy that would be! :sly:

The reality is that there's a wide spectrum of different political belief combinations which are diluted and simplified into two political parties. the majority of socially conservative, economically liberal bluedogs probably feel rightfully disenfranchised by a system which has no place for them at the table.

Basically this:

Also, moving countries is a serious thing. It's not something to take lightly. It's like deciding to get a pet or a kid. It's not something you can easily revert.

I decided even if Trump wins I'm not moving. I'll just go out and join the protests, given I'm right outside DC........
