Yeah it made for a much stronger story IMO than in the old ones where its like "here's pharoah your cackling villain of the week! Muahahahahahaha! IMBECILES!" kind of character. Prince of Egypt really emphasized that Moses was raised AS AN EGYPTIAN, and made them much more sympathetic, while not excusing the fact that them enslaving the Hebrews was wrong. I thought it was well done. In the "Ten Commandments" film of 1957 it was just like LOLOLOLOL Pharoah got owned what an *******"

I feel like that movie was really good in general. Very emotional. That having been said, the whole story about Egyptians using Hebrew slaves and the Hebrews going on a mass exodus to Canaan/Israel is probably total bull**** historically, but it's a neat story in the Old Testament. I don't think Disney was trying to replicate historical or biblical accuracy. the way they ran with it worked pretty well as its own story. You felt pretty bad for pharaoh, but still slavery was wrong. It was a good message for kids and even a way to show "institutional racism" in how some good people may still benefit from institutional racism even if they're not bad people personally. My personal favorite bible story was either the walls of Jericho or Pentecost when the Christians in the room started speaking foreign languages. I was so excited at that as a 6 year old I was running around my room "trying" to speak "French" "German" "Japanese" "Spanish" and so on.

Huh, you're right I just assumed it was disney because it had the "disney look from the 1990s" and a disney-style plot. It was actually dreamworks, pre-3d cell shading. You're right, it wasn't disney. Oh well

I feel like prince of Egypt did some things better than most Disney movies. For example, it didn't have any stupid ******* animal/cutesy thing to appeal to the KIDZ demographic. It also was a fairly focused movie that was authentic to the source material. IMO they did their research on **** when making the movie too. For example, the songs have some Hebrew in them which is (somehow still) recognizable to me. Edited by Rance, Mon May 23, 2016 6:32 am.

Movies are designed to be entertaining. The bible is, well, the bible. Some parts are entertaining though. There was the bit where some youths were teasing Elisha because he was bald and Elisha was like "God, smite them" and then lions came out and killed everyone except Elisha. That was, well, "entertaining" ![]() The water parting for the Hebrews and then drowning the Egyptians never gets old, except in Prince of Egypt where it was kinda sad ![]() Even in the 1950s, Hollywood took a lot of liberties with the bible, and thats ok, they're making a film, not the bible. "King of Kings" in 1961 added two large-scale battles against the Romans which I liked, the pastors HATED it but i think the audience probably liked a good smackdown (spoiler/non-spoiler: The Jewish rebels come close but in the end the Romans crush their ass )

I remember I had a bad relationship with some old roommates, and the one song I think of and sing to myself sometimes was "Deliver Us." My living situation 12 years ago was so bad, I wanted out; the song was a way to help me cope. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsmBR4OE0nk (fanservice dance) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmnlMjlkEQg (SMACKDOWN) Man did conservative pastors HATE these two scenes But you have to admit by 1961 standards, they're pretty entertaining. ![]() (and being a Roman legions fanboy, I appreciated the Romans looking like giving the rebels a chance, and then BOOM smackdown )

Eh its hollywood ![]() She was salome the daughter of a concubine of Herod Antipas, NOT Herod the Great (BTW in the same movie we see a really hammy scene of Herod the Great dying of a heart attack, trying to get to his throne, and being kicked off by Antipas like a d*** Yep, Hollywood )

I think salome was a pretty common girl's name for nobles at the time. BTW that scene (salome dancing for Herod) was actually noted in the bible itself, so the pastors have no excuse They just didn't like it being SHOWN If a little 1950s-era fanservice could send butts in seats, by all means go for it. Hey, it WAS being faithful to the bible... ![]() Barraba's epic fights against the Romans were total BS though I still liked it. The actual Jewish revolt was 30 years or so after the events in the film (the film portraying around 30 AD, the revolt was in 66 AD)
