I believe Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is set in 1940s North Wales, where it'd have been pretty unlikely for you to find any black/non-white people in the first place, so I think this call for diversity for a movie like this is ridiculous since it would just be historically inaccurate and therefore unethical  It's based on a book, too, and I'm not sure if there was any racial diversity in there, meaning it wasn't even Tim Burton's idea :XD

Sure Burton worded his response pretty stupidly, which is his own fault, but as a non-white person myself, I think having diversity in any form of media just for the sake of having diversity is stupid if it doesn't make sense. He can cast whoever he wants in his movies, he's just a director, and it's just a movie.

wow that's so specific!

Are you sure you are not long lost siblings?

I think they should have a token Asian guy in Peregrine Falcon's Home for Ordinary Chipotle as it would culturally enrich the time period. It's not the director's fault that the actual period in which the story takes place in is racist! We should promote diversity back in time!

Jennifer Lawrence will play squirrel girl.
Better idea

I wouldn't say the movie having all white actors has anything to do with the time period, I mean how many samurai movies is there with a white man playing lead role?. Besides, Britain wasn't all white then, there were a lot of soldiers of different ethnicities who fought in the world wars.

I just thought what Tim Burton said was stupid. Cause it was.

Nothing about whether he was right or not.

John Barrowman and Anna Kendrick both play Squirrel Girl. They switch between the two without any notice. One minute it's Anna fighting and then it's John in an instant.

It was pretty dumb Kami. I think the dumbest part of it was the way he worded it to be "unless it's necessary I don't see why we should have non white characters"

But those samurai movies don't have anything to do with Tim Burton and Tim Burton doesn't have anything to do with the movie's story directly- it's based on a book, and the author's the one who didn't have any racial diversity in there  His dumb comments were all I was referring to :P

And I don't know about many samurai movies with a white guy playing the lead role, I'm afraid (since I don't watch a lot of those so I don't have much knowledge about them  ) but the only one I'm familiar with is The Last Samurai, and there were plenty of Japanese actors who were featured in that movie :XD In fact I believe him being white was kind of the point of the story, since he was supposed to be an American in the late 19th century sent to train soldiers in Japan :ph43r:

Oompa Loompas should be taken out of any future Willy Wonka movies. They are insulting to Trump and his people, the Trumpets.

Isn't Last Samurai about Ken Watanabe and not Tom Cruise's character?

Well, it stars both of them, but Watanbe was the titular last samurai :P I particularly enjoyed Shin Koyamada's performance, that was a beautiful film :o

Even then there's an extensive list of movies/tv shows based on books where a character is made white for no reason. But if it's the other way around people kick up a huge fuss. Like for example the Hunger Games. Katniss was described in the books as having olive skin but pale white JLaw was cast for her while people kicked up a fuss over Rue being black in the movie despite her being so in the book.

Similarly, my friend was really excited when they saw a movie of The Girl On The Train was being made. But now he's like "ew" cause Emily Blunt is playing the main character despite the main character being fat in the book lol. He said something like "unless it's melissa mccarthy or rebel wilson playing fat comic relief girl there's never any fat women in movies lately"

Black people lived in England during the 1940s, they've lived there for awhile.

Representation is important. It's always been important. Seeing people like yourself in media, especially as a child, is important. Having diversity for the sake of diversity should be the standard.

I love when people do the whole "having gay characters who talk about how they're gay is so unrealistic" because let me tell you literally 90% of gay people I know are like that
