This late in the game it's basically Trump or "anyone but Trump" and splitting that vote so late to try and encourage a different option just wouldn't work cause then he would win by a bigger percentage.

That's how I see it anyway
That's a wrong assumption and I feel the need to address it every time it comes up. This is because such assumptions hurt our political democracy by making third parties seem, inaccurately, like a protest vote purely against the Democrats. In reality, they are a protest vote against both Republicans and Democrats.

Assuming that third party voters automatically go to Clinton is incorrect, and has been from the start. In fact, in some states third party candidates inadvertently help Clinton, sometimes substantially.

Consider Utah for example. That state is almost entirely Republican. Recently Trump has surged ahead in Utah. Before the last week, however, many pundits wondered if Evan McMullin, a third party candidate, could possibly win the state. The numbers at the moment: Trump at 37.8%, Clinton at 26.5%, McMullin at 25.8%, the rest going to Johnson and Stein.

If McMullin wasn't in the race, almost all of his voters would probably go to Trump. His demographic tends to be moderate Republicans who are disillusioned with their party's candidate. Trump is probably going to win Utah anyways, but last month it seemed like McMullin might snatch the state or Clinton could even win with a Republican vote divided between Trump and McMullin.

This is an extreme example, but in other states we see polls where sometimes Clinton loses in a 2 person matchup but wins in a 4 person matchup. For example, the LA Times/USC poll shows a 2 person race and Trump is up by +5. In a four person race by CBS News/NY Times, Clinton is up +3.

Of course, there are other factors at play such as disparities between polls and methodology, but there are other examples where in the same state the introduction of additional parties helps Clinton. In Virginia, North Carolina and New Hampshire, for example, Clinton has more points in polls that consider Johnson and Stein.

If somehow Johnson and Stein were purged from the polls and their voters were forced at gunpoint to make a decision between Trump and Clinton, they would not necessarily gravitate to Clinton at all. IN fact, the Libertarian party led by Johnson has traditionally been affiliated with economic conservatism if anything. The voters in that party are much more likely to vote Republican than Democrat, excepting some of the new liberals that Johnson has brought in specifically during this election.

I'm registered to vote, but I'm just not voting this year. Both candidates that actually have a chance to win are awful, and I don't follow any of the third party candidates so I don't feel comfortable voting for them.

Might just vote Reggie-senpai. He doesn't let me down. :eeek:

It's ok, I say it in jest :P I just said my opinion on the last page, not gonna stop you

Seriously it's an opinionated topic

I'd probably be tempted to vote Jill Stein personally. Sure she's not perfect but she's waaay better than Hillary, for sure

I'm voting for Stein, but my decision is significantly impacted by the state that I live in. I do not believe California is a competitive state. It goes Democrat every election without reservation.

If I lived in a competitive battleground state, I would probably watch the polls carefully before making my decision. In California I could vote for anybody I want because my vote really does not matter.

Not in California, or any state really that reliably votes for one party over another. In a state like the one I live in, a little more, yes.

My take is in the US, protest voting is reserved for "non-battleground states". Even if you vote for Trump in California, Cali's 55 electoral votes will go to Hillary, period. If you vote for Hillary in Alabama, too bad, so sad, they're going to go to Trump, period. Since in those states your votes don't really matter, just vote for whoever the hell you want

In a battleground state like Ohio, Pennsylvania or Florida though, you should definitely vote for the one you want, not a 3rd party.

Rance is in Socal so he's perfectly in tune to vote for Stein or Johnson or write in Bernie or even Nigel Farage if he wants, California is that rigged
