I liked when people were saying if Jim Sterling says DW9 is bad, it must be bad. People on gfaqs were quoting that over and over.
That's very poor logic. As far as I'm concerned, the only arbiter of what's bad should be the player. Don't put your trust in some big YouTube personality.
Yep, and he has a very narrow criteria of what DW series should be.

His critics even gave him nicknames like "Not So Slim Jim" and "Jim Chunkling"
this reminds me of most assassin's creed fans i know, most of them think they have the patent for what is and what isn't AC, which is far more annoying than simply saying "i didn't like this/these specific instalment/s for this and that"

I mean it's not really that narrow at all.

And DW9 isn't bad because he said it is. It's bad because it's just a bad game, lol.

Also fatphobia doesn't make you look good, Myst, just saying. ;)
this new photo mode makes it almost worth it though

DW9's alright though, after playing it i don't feel like going back to the old formula, this game made dumbster fires like Zhu Ran(literally in this case) or Zhang Bao alright to have around, and weapons i wouldn't have touched even with a ten-feet pole otherwise bearable, at the cost of homogenization but eh, i'll take it over some of the whacky input-based gimmicks, the bread and butter of the fighting is good

they just need to work on the open world to not be a barren wasteland and choose a different story structure next time, a less rigid one

i've been thinking and i'd say the game would really benefit from a faux-open world/multiple zones kind of thing like Dragon Age Inquisition did, have several regions with distinct ambience/atmosphere/music etc. and a some volume of content, some of the bigger cities/hubs could be their own thing entirelly

It just seems like a game that came out of the oven half-baked. I've not been able to play it myself (I'm not dropping money on a game I don't have confidence on, give me a demo KT) but watching lots of videos on Youtube it... The game cycle just looks boring, as does the manner in which combat is broken up the antithesis of what makes a good Musou game. I'm also not a fan of all the weapons sharing essentially the same setup, with each attack doing the exact same function as with another weapon. Like they got the idea of "press button, do special" right, but if they were going to do that they needed to commit and go the Basara route and make each moveset unique.

Maybe I'll give it a try when it's on sale, because as many people who have played it and enjoyed it I've seen, there's just as many who hated it. Even then I've been told to just avoid touching it altogether.

?
What's the difference between her NG design and her DoA design? Aren't they the same?

Yep, the gatekeeping of 'this is DW' etc is what has made the series stagnate imo. And I prefer more balanced reviewing.

@mew: true ^^ i dont endorse it.

i'd say different weapon types feel distinct enough after having played through a multitude of them, even if the same button does the same thing with every one of them on paper, sometimes it's smaller, more nuanced stuff like "this moveset's chase reactive attack stuns" etc, the unique string finishers are also nice in influencing your gameplan as they set up a state if they hit, just like your special attack

characters having unique flow attack finishers from all states is the one thing i would like them to work on, if everyone can't have their own weapon

Fair, it's just I've also heard the exact opposite. And when there seems to be a split right down the middle, it doesn't give me confidence to go find out who's right. Just like I can't blame someone hesistant to see the Last Jedi for instance.

That would be a good thing if they do keep this exact style. I hope they have some idea of how to make it better. Giving up on Renbu was one of their greatest blunders. It was noticeably improved in 6 Empires and could've been ****ing amazing if they kept going.

9 isn't even a bad game, it's just very divisive lol.
I just ignore any "muh clones" rants cause there's been clones in literally every DW game.
Also people seem to forget how many launch issues 8 had.

the biggest problem with DW6 was that there were two isolated, separated strings, which feels really weird and stiff in an action game, if they just made conversion points from the normal string(say a certain part of the normal one goes into a certain part of the charged one if you press triangle after pressing square)to the charge one, boom, best DW game ever

this is something that technically works in DW9 as you can set up a state, do some flow attacks and then set up a different state as long as the trigger connects

The biggest problem with dw6 was that people cared more about daqiao being cut than all the changes to the gameplay

Daqiao should have been in DW6 so we could avoid putting Xiaoqiao in her worst design of the series.

It's a problem with the game when Koei panders to them with the next release by throwing all the good out of the window

Oh yeah objectively it looks a lot better than her DW7 design. I just don't think it fits her as a character and was like Koei were just trying to mash the sisters into one character by having Xiao wear sonething more overtly girly and feminine we'd more likely see on Da.

that i could agree on, even though i unironically like the route they went with the DW8/9 designs, especially the 9 one
