Many people write because they love to. Plus you have to consider that it takes just as much hard work and dedication to be good at writing as at drawing. As for the work aspect, you may need to also consider jobs to have while you are learning to write/draw. People may or may not just up and hire you just because you are learning. I've read a few pieces from talented writers and have even met a famous author, and I can admit they had put so much time, effort, and pride into their writings. To call writing easier than drawing can come off as offensive to those whom take great pride in their writing talents.

having a job as a writer is not as simple as showing up and saying "I want a job"..especially is you want to make a living writing anything that isn't news coverage or articles. Don't put all your stock in being a writer...go do other stuff.

I've been writing short stories since the 3rd grade. I've been planning this novel since the 6th or 7th grade. I would say my novel is almost done, plot-wise. I could show you, if you're interested. And I know people won't just hire me. I think it's safe to say that, by the time I'm 18, I'll have been practicing and planning my novel for 10 years, so by that time, it wouldn't be stupid to think I'm ready. I plan on self-publishing (note that when you self-publish, you publish your book on your own) on createspace.com. By the time I'm 18, I'll be ready to publish my book. I think what you're doing is assuming that I'm not ready, which isn't true. By the time I have to go out on my own, I will definitely be ready to self-publish as, like I've said, I've been planning my novel for some 2 or 3 years and have been practicing writing in general for 5 years. So I don't think needing a job as I'm learning how to write when I'm 18 will be necessary because I'll probably have already mastered the art. But thank you Sakura-kun :)

EDIT: Uck the mastering part. I'll never master anything as I'll always be learning.

And what happens if your novel hardly sales. Many writers are lucky to have even one piece become popular. Planning doesn't equal a novel that people will want to read. It boils a lot down to what new and interesting things it could bring that would make people want to go out and buy it. And I know what self-publishing is considering I work for a book publisher. Self-publishing can be risky. And like a said before practicing how to write doesn't necessarily mean that whatever you write will even sell well.

And please don't call me Sakura-kun.

Takatora: Jama-suru na! *strikes countless soldiers with his rapier and freezes them upon doing so* Chikara koso subete da.
The camera zooms in on Takatora as he slashes down the last remaining soldier on the battlefield. "Kyōfu wo oshiete yaru!" He roared as he watched the life slowly fade from the soldiers eyes.

I know self-publishing is risky, but I have to try. And don't what new and interesting things that the book can bring all boil down to how you plan those interesting things and how they go along and stuff? As for the book selling well, I'll cross that road when I get there.
