Ae, why do you have #CancelColbert?
Because of his twitter account made a racist remark against Asians.

The goal isn't to actually cancel Stephen's show. But when you're in a marginalized group like the Asian community in America, you have to make bold, outlandish statements for people to take notice.

My favorite was when people tell me I should just take it as joke. lol. No.
Ah. I don't feel like looking up what he said.

I dislike "satire" like shows like Colbert so much. They think just because they call their show "satire" they can say whatever they want. :hmmm:
Did you see Huffington Post's absolutely unprofessional interview with Suey Park, the girl who started the campaign?

They kept stating "it was satire". But it wasn't funny?

I don't mind Stephen's show, or any show like his. (I'm a fan of Jon Stewart). This is just an opportunity to make an example out of Stephen, and show what went down was extremely ignorant and wrong of him to do. You can be satirical, but you have to watch what and how you deliver things.

Racism is something that should never be satirized.

:asia: I want to be her friend.

Real Incident Shared By Purva Bhogle - "While I was getting off at Dadar Station, a jerk groped me. I went back into the train and hit the devil outta him. When he began to cry and beg for mercy, one of the lady was like, "(Leave him alone)". I asked her, "(If he gropes you or your daughters, would you say the same thing? Today he has groped, tomorrow he might rape)." I tried to get him off at Matunga station, but he didn't let go off the pole. So, finally I kicked him off at Sion station, took hold of his collar, took him to the railway police station. When I repeated the incident to the cops, they registered a NC and gave me the full liberty to beat him as much as I want. I made him fall on my feet and apologize. Then I beat him again.

what other genders are there beyond male and female?
agender, pangender, genderfluid, etc.

It's a long explanation, but long story short, it is for people who do not comfortably identify as female or male due to several reasons(gender roles, sexism, patriachy, etc. etc.) It's not something we, cisgendered people, will fully take a grasp of, but we can still support them and attempt to educate.

It's not that there is different genders, it's just that said individual feels that they are a mix of male and female

I don't personally understand it that much, but it's just what people identify themselves as. Not gonna judge people for just being who they are.

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/legally-recognize-non-binary-genders/j5KvDVvh

Any and all 18+ US citizens should sign this petition. Please do.
Already did.

And like Jager said it wasn't even an official account, or at least it wasn't run by him.

Heck, he even gave a response himself:
""Now all of this was started by a hashtag activist, or hash-tivist, who has been viciously attacked on Twitter. If anyone is doing that for me, I want you to stop right now," Colbert implored. "She's just speaking her mind, and that's what Twitter's for, as well as ruining the ending of every show I haven't seen yet.""

It's not directly targeting the show or Colbert's actor... it's more targeting the notion that just because you're fighting for equal rights doesn't give you permission to say racially hurtful things.

It depends on the culture- the most well known are the Hijra of India. Fact is though, that there are genders other than male/female, and if someone identifies in that way, they should be able to show it on legal documents. Doesn't need to be down to the letter (as I feel that'd be a bit silly given how many potential genders there ARE), it could just be "nonbinary". That alone would give so many people a sigh of joy.

The girl who started the campaign stated that she has helped fight for Native American rights, such as inviting Native American speakers to her college to educate some students.

This campaign keeps getting misconstrued. We are not attacking Colbert. The tweet allowed for a platform to made, a scapegoat really, for Asian Americans to state that enough is enough. Like I said earlier, marginalized groups have to make ridiculous claims for people to even take notice. If someone simply pointed out the tweet was racist, and didn't make such a bold statement as #CancelColbert, I doubt this would even be discussed.

It's a weird argument to have, this gender thing, me thinks. There doesn't need to be a hundred different ways to identify oneself beyond boy or girl...

But ah well, effects me....not at all. Hope they get what they want.

As for the Colbert stuff. Annoying stuff blown out of proportion. It wasn't his personal twitter, not even run by him, but the network. Additionally, the comment was taken out of context...

all im gonna say is, i disagree with that way of thinking, and handling things like this with such a reaction that you just described, is going to end up hurting the cause you are fighting for more so than help it

anyway, dinnertime. :bao:

Still racist though. That's the issue. Not who did it, not what the intent was, but the context of exactly what it was. Racism.

Like I said, it doesn't need to be like there's a "kathoey" and "hijra" and "fa'afafine" and "androgyne" and "intersex" and whatever else options. There just needs to be an option to say "hey, I'm not a man or a woman" for the ~5% or so (generous estimation? maybe but I don't want to step on toes) people who don't identify as male or female.

I'll always support rights for the transgendered and non-binary gendered people. They get enough judgement from the world as it is.

All I have to say about this gender arguement is that when people learn to treat everyone with respect and stop ucking with others based on how they look, how they dress, what they do, who they are, etc (which I can almost assure you will never happen) is the day people will begin to treat others equally.

I'm afraid that day will never come as humans are so stuck in their old ways, mixing love and hate together, and whatnot. But it is what it is.

I've recently befriended a Trans individual this year, and they've educated me so muchhhhhh. So much. She really pointed out something things to me that was like "whaaaaat".

There's been a couple times I've seen people say transphobic stuff, even here, but cisgenders never understand??? For example, that Wei Yan April Fools thing was pretty transphobic. But it's so hard to explain, that it almost becomes frustrating. I've explained this to my friend, and she always tells me to not pick fights right now, especially since the trans community is so outspoken as is, the fight needs to be more gradual. But stilllllll..... ugh.

I think that so long as people judge others, so long as we mix love and hate together, humans will never treat other humans as equals. Humans have fought each other for prejudiced reasons for decades, centuries even. It'll never end so long as we continue to do this. We can't fight hatred or "phobia" with even more hate. We have to fight it with love, and positivism. Otherwise, the fight for equality between humans will continue on futilely.

You don't have to understand, just respect

It comes down to education at the end of the day, especially with men. People born male have it hammered into them from day 1 that they have to "be a man" and it's really damaging, both to how they see themselves and how they treat men who perceived as "not as masculine"

prolly cause they changed male into female but started calling him a girl
which is just a misunderstanding, not anything malicious or particularly hurtful.
