I was raised to appreciate hard work, but also thought, that some times hard work isn't enough. The people who are impoverished are some of the hardest working people, not the 5% "upper crust". This applies to the entire world, not just the US.

What sucks is that the system is against them from the moment they are born, especially seeing as how nearly every single person born into a financially struggling home will have that when they grow up. It sucks, and I wish people would stop acting as if the poor "want" to be poor, that they can just snap their fingers and be wealthy, to be part of that 5%.

Blaming the US government for the citizen's unhappiness is a cop out.

They are a bunch of rich, entitled, pricks in the general sense, but they could be worse. They could be North Korea. That's an effed up gov't.

Yeah, I guess :/ Maybe you're right.

I currently live on the streets. With a portable tv, laptop, and PS4.

Priorities, ya know?
That does happen in the UK haha

Well not living on the streets, but in council houseing you will see people who do not work (and have no intention of working) with all this stuff. How, I really don't know.

America and the West in general is far too consumerist for its own good.

Doesn't help that whenever someone gets a pay raise, they immediately get a bigger house or a newer car or somesuch so that they constantly live on the edge of their paycheck instead of being happy with less now and saving for the future.

Not to mention having a bunch of kids (or even one) that they can't afford.

Conservatives are against abortion because they see a child as a "punishment" for someone having sex, and it keeps the poor in the gutter. This is evident because they also want to get rid of welfare to take care of that child afterward.

Yes.

If you are born into a rich family you automatically have more prospects. Your family probably have contacts as well as money, you can get into any school and can go to college without any worry. That's the issue.

Born into a less fortunate family you have to work so hard to get anywhere and success isn't guaranteed.

I think more socialism is the way forward, rather than outright capitalism

I like to imagine swan is some high born princess who defies her parents and commits herself to charity...eventually winning the hearts of the people in time for her revolution to overthrow the flawed and cruel regime and replace it with her happier one.

No disrespect to your parents, Im sure they're wonderful people...I just have a very active imagination.... ...don't judge me <_<

Pretty much this. Maybe one day it'll happen. I dunno how we'll get out of the predicament we're in, but we will.

Precisely this.

You need a mixture, capitalism does have it's positive aspects but it has holes, just like socialism. It's a shame that the American education system demonizes socialism as it would solve a lot of problems we have.

I feel that way when I see people badmouthing people whom work at fast food restaurants for example. They are trying to make a living just like everyone else.

Every job needs SOMEbody to fill it, and they deserve to be able to live off that wage just like everyone else.

I wish I had enough money to hand out. Oh wait, I do!

I get that food stamps are good. It's a good service, hell, I was on food stamps as a child in a single parent home. But it needs to be for what it's intended to be for. NECESSITIES. When I see all these young people, who have every means to work, getting their monthly disability checks, using the money that I work my ass off for, that pisses me off.

I've been desperate enough to apply for gov't aid before. Sucked.

On the flip side, I was even more desperate to get off of it or not have to use it in the first place.

I personally felt so worthless being on it, knowing that I was/am fully capable of providing on my own, just couldn't find a job at the time.

That would piss anyone off tbh. I hope the government realizes there may be another revolution if they mix in socialism with their capitalist ways.
