Literally all I can remember of Mary Queen of Scots is that her head got cut off
b-but
youre from the uk
you should have learnt this better than i
We never touched on her in History classes cause we got hammered with so much WW1/2 stuff.

The stuff about the wars of Scottish Independence and was interesting to learn though. It also just helps prove how full of s**t Mel Gibson is

oohooh, actually we did do Asia.

We got the communist revolution in China. Yeah, interesting. Not.

Sorry any Chinese people on here but we could have learned about anything from your 4000 year old history but no, we got the boring modern stuff
Ooo that's upsetting. i had to study all the chinese history i could before we got to China unit. I think it was more modern, but no one learned anything because the teacher made it dead last. I was upset. i couldn't teach anyone anything to disperse the Chinese stereotypes.

People still think I eat dogs and cats afterwards the teacher said that Chinese people kill their second child, and especially if they're a girl. At the time I was 11 and felt uneasy of that. It's because it's not true though it does happen behind the scenes, it's not as often as you think. They have lifted the 1 child policy in China as of two months ago or something. Someone pronounced Mao Zedong, Mayo Zedong. I couldn't help but to laugh because it was my only reaction to the guy butchering his name when he could've asked me.

We learned a bit about Japan mostly the Edo Period as I remembered then there's some stuff in the modern days. People kept calling the people in the Japan educational video, Jackie Chan or my Korean Friend's name.

 I'm upset at how ignorant everyone in that town is. i could've taught so much but it was basically pushed aside.

EDIT: I remember learning about how the US government worked in my last year of high school.
I'm a white person, but its still one of my favourite things to watch even more ignorant white people try and figure out that Asia isn't just one big place where everything intermixes

we learned more about outer space than the Eastern side of our own planet. I bet high school is a little more diverse in history teachings these days though...i would hope anyway.

We studied the one child policy in Geography but that was more objective, looking at both the positives and the negatives (there were a lot of positives too).

I didn't think that the communism module we did on China was stereotypical, I just found it a bit dry (no offense). I would rather have learned about some older Chinese history

Ugh people who make out in the middle of the hallway when I'm walking to class in high school. -_-
Just get the **** out please.

That's irriated me as much as people who hugs their friends and block the way too.

I got late so many times to class and got so many tardy. And I end up with an absence just for that.

I took a whole class devoted to the history of the city my school was in junior year. Only real benefit was that we got to go on field trips sometimes.
even more pointless at my school we had history of parkdale (literally the school and the small area of toronto around it that i live in) sometimes we were just told to wander aroudn the halls and "take the school in"

it was the ebst class

I am Chinese so yeah people ask me it quite often. i've been called Japanese numerous times because i'm the lamest person in the whole freaking school and they forget that I AM CHINESE NOT JAPANESE.

@Diva: I find it interesting that most people don't know Indians are also Asian.

@Arminius: No Chinese person really likes communism so that's not offensive. Chinese history is beautiful, so I understand why you would want to learn that instead. So much to be learned and discover.

I always got asked if I was Chinese OR Japanese, as if they were the only choices. Like when I was younger, I would get upset. Now I just walk away from that ignorance.

It seems like it has improved, in high school at least.

Though, its disgusting how the American Indians and their history is basically reduced to single-line entries like "They used to live this way, but don't anymore" in some of the younger children's history books.

I can't recall which grade it was I read that, but it was terrible :hmmm:

Yeah I just think with so much history of invention and technological advancements and philosiphy there were better things we could have learned about China than communism.

I think some white people, especially ones not really exposed to non-white people, are just ignorant about other cultures. There's an assumption that all Asian people are Buddhist and speak "Chinese" which obviously isn't the case. That's why more Asian history is needed in school.

Uh. No. White people killed almost all of them.

Now i just don't care. People that had known me since Kindergarten asked.

They forget that Korea exists.

@Arminius: People in the western world needs to stop being in their White Bubble. (i didn't know what else to call it) And learn that there are other cultures other than their own. There are many people in this world and that there is so much to be learned.

@Mischevy: Yeah it happens. I understand if someone said Africa or Middle east…though middle east is a bit weird now that i think about it. But wow Europe? That one is a first.

EDIT: @Diva: They just know they're "East Indians" or just Indians. Actually when i was younger I was one of the first people to ask, "Why are people here called Indians but they're not from India?"
The teacher explained it wrongly. Saying there's two types of Indians.

To people I know, that are white, they think Asians look more Chinese or similarly. Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodian, Filipino, Singaporean, Malaysian. Anyone that has those similar features are Asian to them. If they don't, then they're not. That's how they think.

Actually a lot of Native Americans did die of smallpox. It just didn't exist in the Americas prior to its introduction by European.

Though the history books do conveniently leave out the mass slaughters, yeah.

A lot of indigenous people did die of disease in America actually. Being so isolated from the rest of the world before Europeans arrived Native Americans had little defense to some illnesses that were common in the old world. So more probably did die from illnesses brought by Europeans than by being murdered outright.

A lot did die by murder though so I'm not belittling that. Also the representation of human sacrifice in the Aztecs is horrifically blown out of proportion by the Spanish who needed an excuse for what they did. Let's exaggerate their "demonic ways" to justify killing them, stuff like that. They did sacrifice, but nowhere near as much as the Spanish made out they did.

Exactly. No offense taken. The white-washing and flat out lying their asses off slanted history is sickening.

So much ignorance perpetuated by these slanted and narrow-minded views of history. Its definitely politically motivated, trying to either subtly or not so subtly ingrain a sense of nationalism.

I have to un-brainwash my children regularly <_<

We didn't get taught much about Chinese history back at high school, so what I know is basically from DW...and thats not much tbh...

All we really learnt was about WW1, WW2, Native Americans, Egyptians (Which i liked surprisingly), Roman Empire and the rest i cant remember...maybe summat about the Russians and British history

Well I was a dropout of History as soon as i started College! I was more like screw history, bring out the paintbrushes!

OMM: Im so bored, just using my tablet, got iTunes on through my headphones.... and not doing much else....gosh im so boring!
