Education in New York is a little screwed up right now if you're not in college because of common core stuff. Housing varies depending on if you're upstate or downstate

Damn, haha I've thought about California or NY, I don't know if I'd want to live anywhere else

Well anywhere in America is good as long as it's not on the Bible belt
Both have high living costs. They are doable and will depend on how quickly you can find a good paying job.

Florida's education is a joke, but we have one of the best Community Colleges in the country. So, there is that.

Also...Disney.

I hear places like Mississippi and Texas have reasonably low costs of living

Nah Kat, you paint a bad picture of it :P

I think that's what I'd do anyway, visit on holiday first just to get a feel for it and make sure it was what I wanted, then try finding a job before I come.

This will never happen btw, it's just a dream :hehe:

The "Bible Belt" is really an over exaggeration. I've lived in it for 12 years and have never had to deal with any problems with religious people. They stick to themselves mostly and don't try to push anything on you.

You want to live in the "fashionable" parts of the US, you're gonna be paying "fashionable" prices out the ass. NY is still suffering from violence that rose in the 80s, and California is the poster child for financial blunders.

Better to find a lower-key city, but I've heard immigration takes a LONG time unless you have some special qualifications. You can live off work visas for a good while until that goes through, but you'll probably need to be contributing something important to get approved and renewed.

Question for Americans

Is it like REALLY hard to come live in America? Like what do you need to make it easier?

I think I'm becoming more and more sold on the idea of life over there
It is fairly hard living here. I mean, here in America, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. People want to be like them, it's the American Dream to become rich like them. Personally, I don't think that's a cool thing to be. When my Dad visits, occasionally he would tell me how the economic situation in America works. He would say:

"Imagine, there are 99 people in line waiting to get a piece of chicken. But then, some fat dude cuts in front of all of them and buys 94 pieces of chicken."

Now imagine what would happen if there were 99 hungry dudes and only 5 pieces of chicken? Horrible, right? Exactly.

But that's just my take on it. Don't let it sully your views on the country. Other than that, it's a pretty decent place to be in, I suppose. A guy like you would have no trouble living the good life here. But for more info on this matter, click here.

I would also suggest taking this quiz

Florida is a nice place, I like it here.

Just have to tolerate bipolar weather, Hurricanes, tourists, love bugs, and the heat.

Speaking of Love bugs, I saw one today. They are coming.

I've had horrible memories being in Phili, primarily with the airport.

Upstate NY gets all four seasons within 48 hours sometimes, but the cost of living is generally lower than NYC/downstate ^-^'' Shame most outside of the US never pay attention to the state outside of the city

Visiting other countries like Haiti, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico really made me appreciate the US much more than I did before. There's a lot we take for granted, like basic infrastructure.

Puerto Rico is one of best Caribbean Islands because it is technically part of the US albeit as a Commonwealth.

Idk, I just hate living in the UK. If I'm going to stay here I'm definitely moving to London after uni, it's the only good bit.

Yeah, one of the few downsides :(

That said I wouldn't complain too much if I was there, don't want to get the "well go home" response from people
@Kami - I'm already in university here now and I'm done with education after this degree, I'm sticking out my uni course until the end next year but in truth I'm already fed up.

I'll just visit on holiday first.
