Job Hunting :(
:kurokan: :pat:

OMM- I have to call back today about a job which inevitably means I most likely didn't get it otherwise they would have called me already. Horrible feeling considering not only was it one I kind of would have enjoyed but it pretty much means I have to start the hunt from the beginning all over again. :kurokan: :kurokan:
If I may ask, what kind are you applying for and why are you leaving your current job?

I actually did an interview with SEGA a few weeks ago, but didn't get the job. The hunt still continues...
Nothing quite as exciting as what your hunting for I'm afraid. Just trying to make the small step up from the sad reality of fast food to retail and customer service. It's mostly the sad 15-20 hours a week that has left me fed up and in need of something better even if it's still not much. :/

At least you're working (which FF joint?). This job market is terrible right now, mostly because older people aren't retiring at the right time and are taking our jobs. I applied to one company only to see a 43 year-old take the marketing internship position I wanted. Some guy at the clothing store the other day was about 70 years old and didn't know how to even work the cash register.

Don't be afraid to use KW if you're applying for customer service jobs. It can be very helpful. Probably one of the reasons how I got my internship at IGN last summer.

Whataburger for now. Getting a job in pretty much anything is still quite a fight here too. Part of the reason I haven't quit my current one just yet. Pretty much the main problem here is everywhere wants someone who doesn't have anything else to do and doesn't need to really make money to just get scheduled no hours but be available to be on call whenever they randomly need them. Naturally that is pretty close to impossible for anyone really. Language also can kill for costumer service around here. One of the languages I haven't bothered starting on yet is the one everywhere wants you to speak here. :kurokan:

 Poke fun all you want, I do. It sucks.
:ph43r: Really though, come down here and you won't be able to make it even 2 miles in some areas between one store to the next. They are everywhere.

Whataburger is much better than those other places like McDonalds, Burger King, or Taco Bell. There were a few of them around my school in Arizona and I would usually go to one nearby with friends whenever we wanted breakfast at night. Plus crazy stuff would go down there like fights and drunk people just being stupid. They also appear on King of The Hill a bunch of times.

I'm not surprised that they want you to learn spanish for those customer service jobs. Lost out on a few jobs myself because of that requirement. You'll eventually make the switch Ce.

Anyways, I'm working on KW now until I can find something :(

What? Since when was learning Spanish a requirement? Generally, knowing another language was nice, but not a neccessity. But I guess it depends on your locaton.

There were a couple people that I worked with a couple years ago who were from Guatemala, and they spoke little to no English. They learned it as they went along, but I was thanking God that I knew enough Spanish to help train them properly. Not that I'm saying that being fluent in that language should be a requirement, because even after five years of Spanish classes in high school, I'm still not fluent in it. I do know some places that have turned down applicants because they don't know a particular language, and that to me is just stupid. It should be about your abilities, not about what language you speak.

Sorry to ramble there, but that just came across my mind. :kurokan:

That's why it's cool when your native language isn't English, 'cause then you just have to be good at English (well, and your own language, of course XD) in order to have a chance at actually getting a job! ^^ So I'm really thankful that I was lucky enough to have continuously come into close contact with it, since childhood D: My French is pretty good, but I couldn't even pretend to actually really know a lot of Russian XD

Anyway, you guys are awesome, and I wish you all the luck in the world so that you may find the best job out there, that exactly suits your tastes!!! It seems hard to believe sometimes, but it definitely exists for everyone ^^

This just hit my mind:

The fact that in the next town over, they have a Sonic across the street from McDonald's. Which store do you think gets more business? :kurokan:

Oh, and they have a Speedway there too. And go around the corner, not even a block, and you'll find another Speedway. Like, WTF? :uh:

By law it isn't a requirement exactly but it's pretty much the same as having experience at a job vs none. There are a lot of places that will hire anyone over you even if you are better in other ways if they have the language skill. You would be surprised how many people around here really do get away with barely learning any english at all. :kurokan:

It's not like I myself only speak english either... it's just Spanish I don't yet. I suppose I could get on learning it but I kind of hoped to finish up the languages that feel more important to me in the long run first. :/

There aren't any Sushi restaurants or places where you can show off your Japanese skills?

My brother is trying to get approval from my mom to go to Japan next month. She doesn't want him to go, but I am trying as hard as I can to convince her so I can go with him.

I had what were supposed to be connections to get a job as a Sushi chef earlier in the year since I already have experience and training with it but they kind of got lazy on actually helping me eventually. :/

That's like the opposite of mine. She is constantly trying to convince me I need to go back with her whenever she does. She wants me to stay though. I am not sure I am exactly ready to move out of the US for now.

Yeah, I just looked at my schedule and, unlike it should, it doesn't show what my locker and combination are.

Well, that's a problem if I don't know where my locker is. I guess I'll just have to ask one of the guidance people since they should know.

On the plus side, looking over again, all of my classes are on the first floor. Yay. I don't like walking up stairs, especially not when you have like fifty other students doing the same thing at the same time. I hate the (upstairs) 200's, but the freshmen always have their classes there.

But seriously, I have no idea why this doesn't say what my locker number is.
