Do you guys think it will be OK to come out in the workplace? I always thought that it would pass around a lot of judgement.

Depends on the people you're working with, if they seem open minded enough why not

Don't worry. I'm not one of them. It's why I said I'd stay neutral about it.

And anyway, you ought to treat the internet as real life, cause the people posting on the forum are all real people behind computer screens...or so I think

If they are open minded they'll always talk about you behind your back. If they aren't they might even start dissing you.

True that, and I suppose if anything did come of it then legal action could be taken right?

Doesn't matter

I'd never put "I'm gay" on a CV or tell them during the interview. It's not their business until I get to know them on a personal level and there are people who would turn you down for it.

If they've already hired you and they don't like it then they have to live with it

I suppose so, and I guess if someone had a problem with it then they can get in trouble right? I'd never ever use it, but just saying that in work especially everyone should be equal hypothetically.

Well yeah if you found you were being bullied for it, you would have a leg to stand on I guess.

I dunno I just feel strange in work not being open about it, especially with some of the hate that goes on. I kinda wanna be like "Idgaf, you shouldn't gaf and if you do gaf, get stuffed and get out".

I treat places of discussion on the net like this as real life.

And that was Cruelean who mentioned that to me, but even before she did that's always how I've viewed it.

When I first started out discussing things on the net, I kept getting into so many arguments, mostly on Youtube comment sections and ****. Yeah, it was deffo a bad idea. It wasn't until I started discussing here that I've realized that those people who I argued with on Youtube were simply doing so because I had a dissenting opinion from there's.

And that's why to this day, I've not commented on a Youtube video in ages because people will hound you for having an negative opinion about something. It's just really hard to deal with

Then if you want to tell them, I would just bring it up in casual conversation, Chenny. Or mention it if you were asked ^_^ It really isn't a big deal or relevant to the job, right? As long as you can do the work and get along with people it shouldn't matter. It's more or less the same as letting your employers know if you're in a relationship or something; personal and irrelevant to the job for the most part :)

Yawn

@MCG - Tbh if people give a **** about you being gay it would only make me suspect them. I really do think the only people (especially today in the 21st century) who care about gay people are people who are uncomfortable in their own sexuality.

You're in no position to go idgaf on their faces. It will create a lot of drama and there will most definitely be consequences.

And don't find comfort in that equality bull**** babe, if your boss is a homophobe he will eventually make up a cheap excuse and will kick you out.

You can't get fired or bullied for being gay here, due to the equal rights opportunites and stuff that businesses have. If anyone does start being an ass to you continuously put in complaints about them so they stop. Doubt they'd wanna risk losing their job.

I've not had that issue myself, I just never bothered hiding it and just kinda assumed everyone already knew. Some people there still think I'm straight though

I suppose that's a good point, it might even improve some of the relationships I have with colleagues at work perhaps because then I'll seem more open instead of hiding. Thanks for the advice Bell :) .

@Artorias
I'd never be like that about it, I just want to give the impression that I'm comfortable and confident and shouldn't need to conform in that area at work :/

I never did at my job last year either. Tbf I never said it out loud but I was aware my boss knew and assumed the other workers did too.

It just depends on how the people seem. But they can't fire you, so yeah

You can usually tell how people feel about gays by talking generally about it before you come out.

It takes subtlety leading the conversation onto it without setting off alarm bells about you though, so you might have to wait for an opportunity where someone else brings up something sort of along those lines
