It was an item that boosted morale when equipped.

The level scaling is part of why SW1 remains my favourite Warriors game funnily enough. Made it much more challenging in a significant way, rather than just having to up the difficulty to max to get any semblance of challenge.

didnt the difficulty in SW1 scale to the level of your character? Which was an issue if you were playing two players with very different levels...cause it always defaulted to the highest level, or something
Defaulted to Player 1 actually, remember abusing the fact for 4th weapons by being player 2 with high level and player 1 character resetting
I just farmed Kunochi's Ueda Castle stage on Chaos for high end weapons and items, lol.

oh, it did default to player 1?

I just remember trying to finish Masamune's story and couldnt get past one stage cause the enemies were so hard, my brother was playing a maxed out Kenshin...so I just assumed that was why they were so damn hard.

Surely you'd still want to get 4th weapons though, right? Complete the list and see the descriptions and such? :P

Mostly did that trick for characters I disliked

True.

It wasn't like in more recent games where they give the AI ridiculous damage outputs, hyper armour and call it a day.

The damage output was pretty normal, they were just relentless. Had to make use of counters and, in my case, running like a spastic after being reduced to red.

Yukimura's was a pain to get, need to do all the requirements, which at the best of times could get messed up, then also 1000 K.O.'s

Some were pretty easy though

I don't think I ever completed the 5th weapon requirements for everyone. Only a few characters and I was done. :hehe:

Yeah, don't think I ever did 5ths either, with XL I didn't have as much drive for it

Maybe I should do that some time :asia:

i loved level scaling

made the final battles less trivial.
While the castle stages themselves were pretty crappy, I loved the final battles when you reached the top.

Felt epic and personal.

Of course, I'd often wind up reaching there with only a sliver of health left so it would be true musou time!

Just a clarification. The 5th weapons were the rare ones that you had to do the requirements for in SW1. The 4th weapons were the highest obtainable weapons in regular play.

XL brought forth 6th weapons.

yeah a bit too many "bosses" in sw1 came down to running around and spamming musou

Hideyoshi and Nobunaga come to mind specifically

**** remember that yukimura+hideyoshi cluster**** in hanzo's story? that was awful

Yeah, I realised that after posting about the XL ones :P

I meant 5th when saying 4th. While SW1 is my favourite, when it comes to weapon collecting my head's still very much in DW since I did it there first

only Warriors games where I maxed stat everyone were DW3, SW2, DW7, and DW8 and all the WO games.

games where I got everyone's ultimate weapons was DW3, SW2, and every game after that except SW3.
actually, I cant remember if i maxed the stats for everyone in DW5...i remember everyone had different stat caps in that game.

I've never maxed out all characters in any of the Warriors games. Nor have I got all fourth/ultimate weapons. Where it wasn't ridiculously easy to, at least, like in DW7.

Unlocking the full skillsets of everyone in DW7 was enough to drive me bonkers.

And that was over the course of like three years!
