Blasted commies!
I like my commies like I like my coffee. I don't like coffee. :sly:

But seriously though, communism in of itself isn't flawed it's just whenever carried out IRL it's usually by the power hungry so everything gets ****ed.

I would also argue China isn't that bad, actually. Certainly insulting to the Chinese government to compare it to North Korea. Sure there's censorship, which is awful, but North Korea has loads of far worse human rights violations.
Keep in mind of China's massive size and population. With the exception of splitting the country up into sub countries its darn near impossible to regulate laws under "normal" conditions.

If it wasn't dark for half the year I'd live in Norway. Good jobs, growing economy, paid health and education for children, and I have enough blubber on me to withstand the cold.

Bahasa Indonesia is the 4th language I learned in school... and said language is one basis for Tagalog words. I also love the cuisine and how easy it is to understand Bahasa Indonesia. My Indonesian friend is so nice to me as well, she helped me appreciate it.

Being chinese descent myself i respect China. For its capability to keep away USA from annoying the country. I dislike usa's foreign policy. I remember how US blatantly reject Asean + 3(china,SK,Japan). Like why? Its our choice why must you butt in and says NO! No need to show your supremacy USA.

Norway look beautiful for the fjords. I'm sure southern Norway still gets a regular day/night cycle though?

My friend went there a couple of years ago to see the northern lights and I am so jealous. I'd never be able to take that level of cold.

I'd totally go to Norway, or one of those Scandinavian countries. If I were to move to anywhere in the world that wasnt the UK or Canada, it'd be one of those countries.

I don't know much about traditional Korean culture, I only know a little about Kpop and the beauty standards around it.

We never really learned about East Asia in school. I'd like to learn more about Japan personally
Traditional Korean culture is very strongly Confucian.

You're probably talking about modern South Korean culture, however. In that case, I personally find Korean culture to be largely abhorrent, as I've indicated in my previous posts. As for North Korean culture...lol.

I really want to like Korea, but I like the cultures of China and Japan much better overall and for a wide variety of reasons.

The UK is only good if you live in the South, or maybe Manchester or Liverpool. I don't really like my city at all

Interesting history and lots of sites to see though, especially in London
@Worthless - I feel like South Korea is a country I need to visit, but I also want to go to Japan too. Both look like such cool countries.

Although wouldn't lot of traditional Korean culture would be the same for North and South, since they've only been separated half a century?

I'm not sure what you mean by "traditional."

When I think of that word, to me it indicates any combination of historical, conservative or common-in-the-past as opposed to current.

Historically, Korea was staunchly Confucian and heavily influenced by China, albeit with trade and contact with Japan. Eventually it was colonized by Japan and very heavily Japanized, but it still probably retained a lot of its values.

The modern culture of both countries today is probably as different as the cultures of the UK and Botswana, if not moreso. South Korea has developed to such an extent that it rivals Japan, the US and Western European states. With that development has come a massive shift in values and consumption. There is still probably some semblance of Confucian culture in Korean social relations and the ways in which Koreans communicate with one another. There's actually a really good chapter in Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers in which he talks about how Korean social customs helped cause plane crashes in the past. Gladwell argued that the tendency of Korean culture to be overly deferential and reliant on subtle hinting over direct bluntness resulted in poor communication among flight staff.

As a whole, however, South Korean culture today is very heavily transformed by the country's modernization. North Korea, by contrast, is insular and virtually isolated. They do not really have a culture of consumption, for better or for worse, because the people are starving, abused and impoverished. Its culture is thus much different today than South Korea's. Perhaps some of the deeply historically rooted values that citizens in both countries have are similar. Their language is similar or the same too, of course. In other ways, however, the cultures are very different as a result of historical circumstance and comparative levels of development.

It's funny how Indonesian practically never taught Tagalog or any foreign language, other than ENglish and Mandarin. I want to learn Japanese too.. so i won't bother waiting for localization.
