Never really been into Empires. CAW never really does anything for me since Koei's create-a-character is shallow. Empires is more of a game sold on gameplay, and DW gameplay doesn't really do it for me anymore. I'm more into the story, probably because of nostalgia though.

DW4 had best CAW integration into story.

That was the one with the CAW story right? And you could use Fuxi and Nuwa's weapons? I liked that one.

I mostly like Koei's games for the story and setting as well, to be honest. Their gameplay is pretty shallow, let's face it. However, I do like the Empires CAW thing because for whatever reason I've always found it fun to create some goofy characters in games. I actually enjoyed crap like Drawn to Life for that reason, as well as various wrestling games that generally have expansive CAW (different w) systems.

I dunno, I'm still kinda hyped about Empires but I do understand where you're coming from. Koei's selling point to me is mostly the characters and story rather than the gameplay. I kinda wish Koei would use their characters and general storytelling but for another genre like RPG or more strategy titles.

I'd die for a Dynasty Warriors in a Suikoden-like game. It'd make total sense too with the huge cast.

Empires does seem to be implementing some RPG-esque dynamics but they always seem to come short. I like Empires for the reason of forming the game your way, but I do think it could be a lot more interesting if they made it straight-up RPG, tactical or otherwise.

You mean Destiny Mode? That was in DW5:XL. DW4 had Kingdom Modes but still allowed CAWs to be used instead if wanted to.

I always liked playing through DW4 as a CAW with eight Edit Bodyguards.

I do know you could use both of their weapons in each game.

You're right. But you could use Fuxi and Nuwa's weapons right? I just remember really liking the Rapier moveset's musou because it was great for killing officers.

@Lil' Richard - That's probably the thing hindering me from really getting into the Empires games. They add really shallow RPG elements, too shallow to actually make the game a true hybrid of RPG and Hack N' Slash. And they rip away the story elements so it's not like that's helping.

Yep, I had a few CAWs that use Nuwa's rapier. One used Zhang Liao's and another used Zhao Yun's.

@Eni: I have one. :asia:

Sounds great. I really liked Suikoden III.

Ironically, if I remember correctly, I think the premise of Suikoden is based on Outlaws of the March, which was also written by Luo Guanzhong.

I don't expect much from Koei lately though. They killed great series like Kessen and Dynasty Tactics and I can't forgive them for that. :asia:

What is the worst new Mega? I haven't been playing ORAS that much. #Smash

Ehh...Outlaws of the Water Margin (or All Men Are Brothers as I prefer it) was written by Shi Nai'an. But there is a theory that Nai'an and Guanzhong are the same person.

I thought it was written by Luo Guanzhong for some reason.

The stories are kind of similar anyways with their large cast of characters and overall themes.
