the only thing scarier than darren wilson getting off scot-free for killing mike brown is the publics support of it

the only thing I took away from the whole Mike Brown thing is that anger makes people do some really shitty things

looting and setting fire to local businesses...the hell does that accomplish? Other than hurt people that had nothing to do with it. How does looting local shops and setting fire to Walgreens accomplish anything?

Because Mike Brown represents so much more than just a simple tragedy. The reaction to Mike Brown was the black community basically saying enough, we're tired of being antagonized by police and made out to be thugs. If you're going to make us thugs, then we're going to be thugs.

A lot of people forget that the original protests WERE peaceful. And when they were peaceful, the cops tear gassed them and shot them with rubber bullets. The fact that Ferguson is 67% black people but the police force is 93% white should be enough to show you how awful it is there.

So the answer is to endanger and financially harm people in their own community? People who are only trying to make a living and now have to fear, or have already endured, their entire livelihoods literally going up in flames because a group of people are angry.

The police already destroyed their own town is what i'm saying. The protests were peaceful and the police terrorized them. They had to break into stores originally to get milk to poor on people's faces who were exposed to the tear gas. It started a chain reaction. The police would also break into homes of non-protestors for no reason at all.

I'm not saying it's the right decision, but I can understand the anger. And its all perspective you know. If they had at least fired the cop for doing his job wrong, the country wouldn't be in this mess. Instead, he completely got off scot-free, and got over 600 THOUSAND dollars on donations. This man essentially was paid for jumping the gun on a barely dangerous teenager.

Its an ugly situation. Like Rodney King and Trayvon Martin all over again.

You'd think we'd have learned something from those experiences

It is an ugly situation indeed.
i feel the worst for Mike Brown's family. Especially considering they've voiced out that they don't want people to riot.
They just lost their son and not only was his death completely in vain but they have to listen to thousands of people call him a thug that had it coming.

Truly a dark moment for America. I almost skipped class today because I was just so distraught from the whole situation.
Also, someone pointed out to me that "thug" has become the new N-word, and I completely agree.

There's actually not much looting going on, the news hasn't really been fair in that regard. Many are standing up and trying to calm down the younger generation. Looting/violence isn't the right thing to do but they're angry, tired of the same results after the murders of innocent black men.

This is a very telling event. That this continues to occur, without any justice, goes to prove our justice system is a joke. I don't blame the people losing hope and lashing out. I feel they've done nothing to deserve scrutiny after the justice system has made a mockery of a human life once again. In fact, their actions are minimal compared to the retaliation from police. Is violence justified on either side? Of course not.

I like how most people are more upset by looters reacting to what amounts to anarchy enacted by the government than the fact that an innocent man (who was barely an adult) was murdered by a cop.

Like no one is saying the looters are in the right, don't sweep the peaceful protesters (who vastly outnumber the looters) under the rug.

Agreed.

The justice system has let down people from around the world with this. The rioters are being exaggerated. Generally, they're striving for peaceful protests and yet they are being bullied by law enforcement. It's horrible.

I'm a selfish dick so I'm upset at people protesting and creating disturbances in California. My mom could barely come home from work yesterday, which is stupid because Ferguson is on the other side of the country. People shouldn't be protesting here as it accomplishes jack-all. I think there are some major problems with police brutality in California too, but protesting the outcome of a trial in Ferguson won't solve these problems. I just wish that this whole issue had stayed local.

As for the looters, I think people have a right to be upset with their actions because they've destroyed several businesses in that area based on what I've seen and read via news. Note that people can also be upset with the legal system and the police. I think there is some deserved righteous fury over this whole issue. But I think the looters, in contrast to what Meliel said, deserve to be scrutinized for their abominable behavior as well.
