I see where these people are coming from but the people on the other side are just missing the point. They keep making these outfits because people keep buying them.

The season pass for Last Round is 93$. Common sense says don't pay 150$ for a game but people will.

I better remind myself to not talk to people who find me annoying even when I make jokes.

They're not worth talking to at all anyway.

If we're on about the outfits that girls have in warriors games, I'm just gonna leave this here... I was playing WO3 Ultimate the other day and she came on screen and I was shocked that they actually put this in a video game. I mean, I didn't know if I was playing WO3 or 50 shades of grey the game! I mean, come on, this is just ridiculous!

I mean, that's pretty timid compared to most of the other DoA outfits. Compared to Zhurong and Diaochan, even, both of whom show way more skin.

and Koshosho straight up wearing panties held up by dental floss.

The issues are:
1) It reinforces the common societal ideal (that's sadly ESPECIALLY common in video game playing circles) that women are made for sexual consumption and enjoyment only. Even looking outside of games... Look at any given article about a woman, what is guaranteed to be among the top comments? Some sort of comment about her beauty, or about how she "needs a good ****ing", or something else related to how her worth is measured in only her attractiveness.

There was a frickin' article about a female sniper I came across a few days ago, and what was the top comment? More or less, "Wow, that makes me rock hard!" -_- Like, no one is talking about how she looks or her sexuality, shut up.

2) It alienates people from playing the games (or trying the comics, or movies, or anime, etc. but I'm talking about games right now) which feeds an elitist mentality among the gaming community. Many women don't feel comfortable playing games featuring sexualized characters, thus they stick to games that don't feature scantily clad girls obviously made for men's consumption... which tend to be considered "casual" games on phones, which leads to further discrimination from the hardcore gamer cadre, harping about how women aren't "smart" or "skillful" enough to play "real games" or something... when somewhat ironically women are more likely to play puzzle games or other games requiring actual thought BECAUSE of a lack of scantily dressed gals, and play them on phones because well, that's where they are!

3) Besides reinforcing the sexist ideals of many male gamers... It sends the message to young women and girls that they need to be pretty/sexy to be "strong". Think of popular strong female protagonists in video games or any traditionally "nerdy" media. How many are scantily clad vs. not? You can begin to see why so many genuinely attractive women interested in nerdy things have self-image problems. I can't begin to tell you how many of my girl friends are cute, even beautiful, but think they aren't.
---
I'm not saying you need to remove the women who have unrealistic faces and bodies. But it's not going to harm ANYONE to include women who are more realistic looking and acting, besides the few men who only value women for their looks... and we shouldn't value their opinions anyway.

We can still have our DoAs and Senran Kaguras and the like. But we need to break the toxic mentality that surrounds games like these. The best way to do this is to have realistic female characters, and more of them, in other games or hell, IN these games.

Sexy men in games also aren't comparable. Most sexy men are the ideal of what men want to be, not what women want men to be. You also don't see people making sexual or lascivious comments first thing about men doing things unrelated to appearance or sex. You don't see an epidemic of men feeling uncomfortable in their appearance. You don't see toxic gamers excluding men for being men. It's very much a gendered issue.

Hell, I remember that new FF game coming out, forget the name, but like, so many men felt SO UNCOMFORTABLE looking at the protagonist because he was genuinely sexualized in a comparable way to how women in games are (i.e., made attractive with female sensibilities in mind), rather than muscular handsome men. If I find the link I will post. But like, he was scantily clad, toned but not overly muscular, had a pretty/androgynous face, etc.

And the comments were like "wow this is gross!", "I'm not playing a game with this *** ass ****!", "Ewwww", etc. etc.

Like yeaaah, now you know how women feel, bozos. >_>

The huge tits not the issue, it's the constant flow of skimpy outfits that borderline softcore porn DOA5 has had.
They make it sound like that, but it's really not. Because what if every costume revealed little to nothing offensive, they would let it pass. And what do many of these costumes do? As the recent article says, leave little to the imagination.

It is really down to them trying to show the size of them and not about the use or little clothing. They know people prefer what's underneath.
Itagaki's DOA was a fighter with sex appeal. He made DOAX for the people who wanted more. The new guy is just whoring it out essentially. DOA never was a good game for most in the competitive scene. Counter frames were too long, combos were rather simple. It was just who could counter first. After 2, game got better gameplay wise. Now 5 is a great game but it's plagued by the sex image. The DLC outfits aren't helping and that's where these complaints come from. The community that wants DOA5 in the competitive scene want to show the game is more than just T&A. The non-competitive casual side that enjoys the T&A are crying foul.
I was eating nachos while typing that. :beard:
That's some skill. :kosho:

DOA5 is a great fighter and is one of the best at least. But honestly I think what drives a company more than having a great gameplay title on their CV... is money. They will always probably try to find brainwashing features like T&A more than they will improve on the gameplay. If they didn't need to go to a job and work for money, the game probably wouldn't exist. Most hard work likely stems from money. I just think it's money before anything else, the grim reality of it.
It's the bottom line. In the end, they're a corporation and their net goal is profit.

Many women also don't really care and play plenty of games with scantily clad women. Also there's an abundance of fanservicey male characters in games as well.

And then the company that makes the game will see a 50% dip in profits and revert right back to what they were doing before. Face it: So long as capitalist society exists, you aren't going to induce any kind of change. You can vote with your wallet and try to persuade others to do the same, but good luck. You probably won't get anywhere. You can try to widen the market and market games with "female sensibilities" in mind, but I'm not sure you'll get anywhere with that either. The thought of that actually annoys me because it assumes that all women are the same and have the same attitude. A lot of women, as I've pointed out, don't really give a **** and enjoy plenty of the mainstream games on the market.

There are some exceptions admittedly. I hear the more conservative Lara Croft in Tomb Raider had a lot of fans. But it's not like they made her ugly or plain looking anyways.

If you change something, the die hard fans will throw a tantrum because a change was made. Companies will change it back to not alienate their die hard fanbase which just makes their fanbase as a whole smaller.

Because people like Mew would get me fired and then I'd have to go assassinate him out of vengeance because he ruined my life and then end up getting caught and going to jail, etc

it's a whole thing. Not worth the hassle.

The thing is that not all fans are the same.

Not all women are the same.

Not all men are the same.

It's these generalizing dumb attitudes of "women don't like this" that are really hurtful in my opinion.

Companies want to cast the widest net possible, because their ultimate goal is producing profit.

I mean like in general people will always find something to complain about, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I personally don't like that media designers feel like they can only make money through sex appeal instead of other creative, more intelligent ways, but I'm not going to fault them for doing what they need to make a profit. There's never going to be a 100% approval rating, and I think that's fine.

Not much profit at all. It's not worth their time or thought to them for a minority because aiming for heterosexual male gamers is where the money is at.

Or if the whole world suddenly turned gay.
