I know a lot of people hate The Little Mermaid, but it will forever be my number one favorite. Hunchback close second, even if it does take a lot of liberties, which honestly most Disney films based on previous lore do anyway. |

Beauty and the Beast and Mulan are probably tied for my third favorite. After that, the rest are in whatever order. And I've seen Sleeping Beauty probably more times than any of the others. |

I love the Little Mermaid! I understand why people dislike the Little Mermaid but I think it's because they read Ariel's intentions wrong. She's not sacrificing her voice or anything "for a man"- she'd always been interested in the human world. Eric just helped usher along what she'd end up doing anyway- trying to be a part of that world. |

I wanted a mother character who was middle aged but still extra chill and up with the times and she would fight with an axe or something. But Noctis has a boy's only club going, and that makes me sad. Princess and the Frog > everything else Disney Edited by dancingswan, Sat Mar 28, 2015 12:14 am.

And honestly, if I was Ariel, I'd be pretty devastated too if my dad (the person she looks up to most) decided to destroy everything that made me happy. To me, the lesson is more of parents learning to let their children experience the world on their own. |

Mulan is up there for me because I'm a Sinophile. It's also just generally good. "Let's get down to business." Also Lion King and Aladdin. I can't fault those at all, even though I know that Lion King was just a straight ripoff of some shitty Japanese movie. Edited by Rance, Sat Mar 28, 2015 12:48 am.

I've never seen it, but the animation quality looks pretty crappy compared to the Lion King's. The Lion King took that and gave it much higher production value, which resulted in a really damn good movie. I feel that Aladdin and Lion King were the high point of Disney animated movies. |

Well, of course Kimba's animation quality was lower; because it was made in the sixties, it was a long-running series rather than a 1-2 hour long movie and it didn't have a multi-billion dollar company like Disney producing it Really not fair to compare the two. The story, characterization and plot are fantastic, though, many differences from The Lion King, actually.I agree about The Lion King and Aladdin though, and just want to throw The Hunchback of Notre Dame in there; animation for that film was phenomenal. Wished you in the birthday thread, but ditto ![]() Hope you enjoy/enjoyed it

I have very mixed feelings on that movie. The characters were mostly likeable. The plot was mostly good too, and it even dabbled with some surprisingly mature themes. It gets some demerits from me for the lame gargoyles, however. I especially disliked the gargoyle musical number. Disney likes to try to appeal to all ages, which is a sound business strategy. From the perspective of a critic, however, sometimes I feel that this approach waters down their movies. Characters such as the Gargoyles in Hunchback or Olaf in Frozen tend to come across as obnoxious and unnecessary to me. |

I sometimes wonder why is Vega's hair color no longer blonde by default since Street Fighter IV. Does it look ugly on cutscenes or what, that it changed to brown? |

While I adore Quasimodo as a character, think the screenplay for the film was written brilliantly and find Esmerelda to be one of the best-looking Disney heroines of all time, I really was only referring to the animation as being spectacular (adding to what you said about production quality and those two movies being the high point of Disney animation). The "Gargoyles" number just makes me laugh I agree about Olaf though, characters like that (and I don't mean his background or identity, just his personality) are irritating

Yeah, the gargoyles were pretty annoying, but I feel that as a whole the movie was still incredibly strong. The soundtrack, major characters, and plot are all amazing considering the source material and limitations. |

Yeah, the animation itself was pretty great. And yeah, that's my one major gripe with the movie. The plot and characters were otherwise great. I really like the "Hellfire" song.
