After much speculation and no official word from Ubisoft, they have finally confirmed the existence of Assassin's Creed 2. Found this on Gamespot:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/blogs/sidebar/909182374/26838387/assassins-creed-2-teaser-site-launches.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;2

It has a short video, and at the end, it says "Game Informer 4/16/09", where I guess more info will be released. I've never played the first one, but I rarely make topics on here outside the Reviews forum and I though I'd let you guys know.

I saw this earlier on GameTrailers. Very exciting, although the trailer doesn't really give anything away. I loved the first Assassins Creed, it was great fun and was fun to replay again after (If not just to massacare the poor people of the cities, haaa...)

All i'd really hope for is maybe a few different playable characters *Female!*, I think that would be awesome. I can't truly remember how the first one finished though, but i'll be keeping my eye on this for more info around that date given. Fingers crossed that this won't be a shoddy sequal!

From the rumors that I've read, the setting will be in in Venice and probably around the Italian areas. The trailer shows Da Vinci drawings so I assume that those rumors are true. Still, the ending of the last game shows South American and Chinese drawings on the ground so those could be the possible settings as well. Anyway, I'm really excited about the possible European setting though. Venice looks pretty beautiful from the pictures I've seen. Plus, there could be masquerade masks in the game. Those things are awesome.

I like the first game for the free roaming and environment, but the game is extremely flawed. Game play and difficulty need to be cranked up, and I also hope they fix the missions in this game. The missions in the previous game are just bland and practically the same.

I definitely agree with you BEO. The gamplay was quite repetitve. And while the free roaming was fun, I still felt limited. I think they need to do more, maybe add being able to enter more buildings or have a bunch of secret passage ways.

I still enjoyed the game very much and the story was cool. I look forward to playing this sometime in the future.

The gameplay was insanly repeative, main reason I quite hated that game even though everything else was pretty good. I heard rumors ages ago that it would be set in China's Ming dynasty but I guess they decided to take a jump to the future instead. I might only get it if it turned good as I'm pretty excited to know what happened after the first game's questions-full ending :-\

I don't see why people found the gameplay repetitve myself. Well, the freeroaming part at least.

Maybe if you were obsessive with it, then yeah, but still, the original game was just amazing. I loved running about the cities, getting in random fights and such
though, the combat itself I mainly just countered if I was badly outnumbered, so if you just do counters or something, then its repetitive, but you are not stuck do doing such things.

I think the rumours of the Chinese setting were from the writting at the end of the game.

Anyway, perhaps set in Venice, huh? Thats an interesting setting. Never thought of it at all.
Hopefully its as enjoyable, if not more enjoyable, than the original. (Hope the character is awesome also, Altair pwned :ph43r: )

I think the rumours of the Chinese setting were from the writting at the end of the game.

The ending was explained by the developers themselves, but apparently they've changed their minds.

From the crusades to the Renaissance era? Not sure how it'll be turning out but I can see why they chose that particular time period. I'm also concerned about how they'll be able to strengthen the plot, the original was awesome, but they really need to keep the consistencies or this franchise will easily fall. They should also improve on the gameplay, it's way too easy and the combat really gets old. More weapons, some new moves, and a more interactive environment should do it. What they really should aim to do is make you feel like you're playing as a bad-ass assassin and not just rush what happens next in the story or perform the same repetitive and horribly boring missions.

It's confusing how they've just skipped to the Renaissance, because I thought the story was about a feud between the Hashashim and the Templars. Now that it's in Venice, you'll probably be playing as an assassin wearing a masquerade in (probably) the same assassin organization from the original, who has nothing to do with the main character Altair.

Hopefully, Assassin's Creed will turn out to be an innovative game, live up to the hype and fill in some spots beside other great upcoming games like God of War III.

I never even bothered to finish it. I agree with most of the comments here about AC being repetitive, despite all the freedom you have, when you find there isn't actually that much to do, it gets old... QUICK. Can't go into any buildings, hardly anyone to interact with, can't aquire new weapons/equipment/outfits outside of the the maint story etc.

Still the series has huge potential, maybe they will get it right this time.

Thanks for the update BEO, the game does sound decent that alot of the suggestions were indeed heard. More weapons and special attacks, unique missions and a night/day phases. Pretty much what I wanted, if the gameplay turns good, I might get this one as I'm clueless of that history period.

The new Assassin is named Ezio. I think he looks pretty badass. The only thing that bothers me is his face, but I guess we will have to wait and see what it looks like completely.

Awww, not a female assassin ='( But he looks sexy none the less! Thanks for the info BEO, and thanks for the render Jsun.

I'm glad to see there will be a good amount of new content, especially some more weapons! Being able to swim will be pretty cool too, but WOO! Gliding? That should be great fun. But I would imagine it might just be for one mission or something, as it's not like everyday people would be gliding around on strange machines.

New Trailer
Jade Raymond talks about AC2 (German)

Translation (official forum)

The first thing when they came up with Assassins Creed was to make it feel and look like you're in the game, and also they added a ''Hollywood'' feel to it. then they went on about the fact that you could walk in every direction, which is a major thing in the game.
it took several months to create a single piece of game frame just so it would look like it did back in the day:

they are using the same engine that is used in the first part; they updated it a bit but they tended it to keep it a similar feel and look.

The second part of action adventure doesn't play in the same time frame. But in the venetian time frame. in Assassins Creed 2 the whole idea is about that special moment that you're alone with your victim and you have to strike fast and carefully.

Apparently, if i watch the the whole clip they tell us that they already finished the Renaissance and that it is being tested as we speak.

Release date is winter 2009, for PS3, 360 and also the P.C!

Looks promising so far.

whoa that character render is awesome!! it is deffinatly set in italy just to clarify for those who are unsure.

I can't wait to here more about AC2 i was waiting for this for ages - he has a very stylish italian look about him - but it is deffinatly Desmond miles from the first game you can tell from the face - i mean it should be why would they bring some random guy in to get his memories and not carry on his story :P

i am really looking forward to seeing new features as well like new ways to kill etc.

yeah thats awesome mei ling things for the info

i am really happy with that character render i think it is well done and slows a lot of promise from the original Altair - what i like about it is that it still resembles Altair/Desmond but it has italian style version of Altairs outfit it think that the character designers did a fantastic job with Ezio- lol sorry i've got my game design head on tonite :P

I was so obsessed with the first Assassins Creed I think I played through it about five times. xD

So as you can already guess I loved the first game haha. I can't wait until this one comes out even though I know for certain I'll be waiting for a price drop. Dx
Renting is always an option!

From the trailers I've seen it looks as if they're going to go more into detail with the new character's reasons for being involved with the Creed- motives and all, and I think that's awesome! But I still want to know more about Altiar's past, I hope he isn't completely retired from the series. @_@
I'm sure as future games come out and the strings get tied together he'll appear again.

I'm excited for these historical figures and new settings. Oh not to mention all the new equipment you'll probably be able to use, like what ever shot out from Ezio's wrists in the trailer...that would definitely come in handy- no need to chase down your targets and get screwed when they make it to the guard tower. :P

This game is a huge improvement to its predessesor. There is a lot less repitition this time, thank God. I don't know what else to say for fear of spoiling it for anyone.

However, if there ever comes an argument over who's the cooler assassin I'm sticking to Altaïr.
