The Warlords

"The film is set in the 1860s, during the Taiping Rebellion in the late Qing Dynasty in China. The story, based on a real life unresolved crime in 1870, tells of three sworn blood brothers who are forced to turn against one another due to the harsh realities of war and political intrigue"

I finally managed to get hold of this last night and enjoyed it immensely. Jet Li did a great job of portraying the desperate General Quing-Yun who, in a bid to regain some of his former glory, recruits village bandits into the Imperial Army to fight against the Taiping rebels. Their victories come thick and fast but over time, the once timid General reveals his constant thirst for power and control, causing conflict with his trusted brothers as a result. The battle scenes, while not too frequent, were well shot and perfectly captured the brutality of war with limbs getting hacked off every other second and the ending has a twist that that will have you reading your history books.

Reccomended :)
