I've been recently re-watching some of the UC series, and have noticed that despite how "Zeon" is constantly portrayed as genocidal and just about any other form of evil one can think of, that Zeon has had its share of decent human beings. So I've compiled a list of a few I've come up with, along with reasons for my choices. If anyone can come up with any that I missed, feel free to add but do include an explination. 1. Char Aznable (OYW-ZZ) I think Char kind of goes without saying, but I thought I'd include him anyways. He joined Zeon for the sole purpose of avenging his family and the honor of what I refer to as the "True Zeon". He was also instrumental in the deaths of Garma and Kycillia Zabi. Finally in Zeta, he joined AEUG to stop the Titan threat along side his former enemies. 2. Ranba Ral (OYW) I knew I liked him in that first scene with him and Amuro in the bar. He had a rather likable personality. It was also clear that he wasnt one of the indoctrinated officers. If anything he was fighting for liberation and not the Zabi family as shown in the scene aboard White Base where he ran into Sayla. Honorable to a fault. 3. Lalah Sune (OYW) Elegant, kind, and fiercely loyal to Char. She fought for Char and Char alone. After meeting Amuro she would try to get him and Char to stop fighting because she didnt want to see either of the hurt or killed. This would unfortunatly cause both her death and create a long lasting and painful grudge between the two ace pilots until Char's death in 0093. 4. Aina Sakhalin (08th MS) After meeting Shiro Amada and saw for herself the falsities of Zeon propaganda. From that point on she wanted to work towards ending the war and stopping her insane brother. 5. Norris Packard (08th MS) Loyal retainer to the Sakhalin. Like Ranba Ral, hes almost honorable to a fault. Shows respect for Shiro. 6. Yuri Kellarny (08th MS) A officer who fights with honor and cares for the men under his command. A trait that often seemed to be lacking. 7. Cima Garahau (0083) One would not get the impression of her as a decent human being unless they were well informed of her backstory prior to the events of 0083. With a story similar to Char's, she joined the Zeon army to fight for independance. Betrayed by her commander, she and her squad were tricked into nerve gassing a space colony, an act she never forgave. On top of that she lost her home colony to the Zeon cause when Ghiren had it converted into the colony laser. At the end of the war, while others were getting transported to the safety of Axis, she and her ships were abandoned at A Boa Qu, and she was forced to live the life of a pirate for the next few years while she waited for an opportunity for vengeance against Zeon. Unfortunatly due to the incessant meddling of Pegasus and Kou Uraki, which would lead to the death of South Burning, Cima would get a death sentence placed upon her head by the the Pegasus and her crew. Dispite orders from the Federation that Cima was on their side, Kou would kill Garahau by impaling her mobile suit on Unit 3's mega particle cannon and firing it. 8. Kelly Lazner Forms a friendship with Kou and through the sharing of experiences helps lift some of the burdens off of Kou's shoulders. 9. Haman Khan. Deep down I just feel sorry for her. I really don't think she was such a bad person, rather just another unfortunate soul that was indoctrinated by Zeon propaganda during her "exile" aboard Axis. I dont think anyone really ever took the time to love her or even give her much of an actual childhood at all (much like Mineva Zabi). In Zeta, when it appears that her ex-lover Char is dead, Haman shows sadness and remorse. In Double Zeta, during her final battle with Judau, while the duel realistically ends in a draw, Haman takes the high road by refusing to allow the battles to continue any longer. Piloting the remains of the Quebeley into Axis, she self-distructs with a look of serenity and freedom on her face after declaring Judau the winner. |

Ramba, Norris, and Aina are about the only people on that list I can safely say are decent human beings. Cima? I'm sure she WOULD be a halfway decent lady if she hadn't been screwed over so much; the evils she committed are little more than eye-for-an-eye responses to virtually every side screwing her. However... Lalah, Kelly, and Ramba? As much as they're "nicer than your average Zeon", all of them pretty much know what they're getting into. They might be "Good Zekes", but they were also Zekes lucid enough to recognize the cause(s) they were serving. Now, Haman and Char. Both have such selfish streaks (hell, you could say lifetimes) that you can't reasonably call them "Good" people. Char more or less admits that he becomes the devil at times, and Haman is an unrepentantly power-hungry woman. I dunno... I love their characters, but I can't guarantee that I'd want to be in the same room alone with either of those two. |

char in OYW up until CC wasn't bad, infact he did do a lot of good, it's in CC when he decides to be the jumping pad for evolution that he goes off the deep end. |

Depends on how you see it. I won't debate with you on his stint through Zeta, but in the OYW... Char made it his mission to destroy the Zabis. One might see that, because the Zabis were such manipulative, murderous, and power-hungry bastards, this was a righteous thing to do. However, if we look at intent, then you could see that Char was out only for revenge; I mean, yes it was awesome, but the way he was unnecessarily smug and vindictive to Garma (and Kycilia, to an extent) right after they died says it all. |
