There is a god awful whine on the video but it seems pretty helpful (didn't watch the whole thing) if you go here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow27AGFw2ZE

Or you could, you know, just buy them:

http://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Hearts-2-Axel-Weapon/dp/B000TG0JC4

...if you're eight inches tall. XD

No seriously there's no further information I have no idea how large they are. It says they're for cosplay but there's no measurements or anything. Anyways the colors are all wrong.

No seriously, I suck at making weapons, you might consider outsourcing them.

I'm new to weapon-building, BUT this is how I'd do them:

I know there are styrofoam in many sizes in some hobby-shops avaiable, so I'd buy two large and eight smaller ones for the rings.

For the cross in the middle, I'd buy an iso tube as it is often used for cords (you should be able to find those in building centres and they are cheap).

For the spikes around I'd use for example chopsticks as the core (which you insert in the rings) for stabilisation.

Now here it depends on preference.
You can either form the spikes with plaster over the wooden core and also cover everything in a layer of plaster before you paint it the correct color.

Or (which I'd do, due to the weapon rules over here) I'd use foam plastic and duct tape to form the spikes and also put a thin layer of foam plastic all over the weapon, before covering it in duct tape.
Then I'd be putting a few layers of white latex over the whole thing and finally, when all is done and dried, I'd color the red parts ;)
Do not forget to spread tallow over the latex parts when you are done or it will be rather sticky. Baby powder is cheap and effective ;)
If in the end you find the weapon not "shiny" enough there is some sort of special liquid which you can put on top of your weapon, that will give it a certain shine. I haven't worked with that one yet, but I plan on doing so in the future.

I hope I expressed this in a clear way.

An alternative material for the cross-section I can think of is the carton of a kitchen roll. It's cheaper, but also less stabile ^^°

If you have any further question, shot right away ;)

Note: I just thought of something else. If you can not get the rings I talked about earlier, maybe you can get your hands on 2 discus of plastic and cut the unnecessary parts out? You could also get the base for the x-shape in the middle :)
Problem would now lay with the outer rings, but maybe there are some sort of mini-discs out there? Or a broken cd that you can cut with special scissors in the right shape? ;)

I plan on carving Magoichi's gun out of a single piece of wood. Any suggestions on what type of wood I should start with? I was thinking of getting a 6' length of 2x12 to start with from the hardware store...

Wood is a tricky material and rarely used in cosplay (bludgeoning weapon whut? Security peoples are crazy), mostly because it's HEAVY. I'd suggest looking into other carved guns to see what kind of wood was used, or even the kind of wood used in real muskets. It's going to be sturdy enough to hold up.

Though, since you're old enough to buy a gun, why not try to find a broken musket on the cheap and say, replace the barrel with PVC tubing and take out the guts?

XD Of course you might think that's a horrible thing to do to a nice old gun. Even if it is broken.

For the hair piece I'd be using a mixture of fun foam and fimo (modelling mass, that you put in the oven and when it's cold feels like plastik)

For the whip I'd suggest you check out a building centre.
The handle can be a thin drainpipe out of plastic (just test which lays best in your hand) and for the major other parts I'd check for a thin isolation tube (also out of plastik).
Also see if you can't find small plastic rings.

Cut or saw the isolation tube into regular pieces and grab a soldering rod or something similar to make holes into the end of the pieces. You can either connect them by melting part of the rings, slidding it in the tube-pieces and then melt it back together of you can use the holes to tie the rings to the tubes with a stronger string.
The details and decorations I'd make with Fimo as well.
You can color it by sanding the surface first :)

Hope that explanation is somewhat of a help. :)

I'll add to this: Be careful with the rings and length though if you're planning on taking the whip to a convention. Some (like Otakon) have very strict rules about chain length and materials.

Righty... I've got a bit of a question.

My friend and I would like to cosplay atleast one time in our lives, and we really wanna go do it. Problem is, we have no materials, no clue where to buy the materials, and even if we had the materials, we wouldn't be creative enough to make a good suit.

So I was thinking to buy 2 complete suits, but after searching a lot, nothing/ nobody was found who actually sell those. Especially to a European country. Does anyone have some handy tips for buying Cosplaysuits in Europe? Maybe some sites that can help?

I will appreciate all the help. I will need it :s

Edit: And with Cosplaysuits, I mean Dynasty Warriors/ Samurai Warriors

Edit 2: I realised I pressed quote instead of edit, so I am very sorry about this double post.

No worries about the double post it has been taken care of.

Who were you thinking about cosplaying?

Well, ever since we saw the SW2 cutscene between Hideyoshi and Magoichi "Fighting", we were like: "Holy! That could really be us!"

So we were thinking of him being Magoichi Saika, and me being Hideyoshi. (Both SW2)

As for extra's, I'd also would like a Sima Yi or Zhang Liao costume both DW6 style.

If you don't mind purchasing off Ebay, I've seen a couple sellers from China who sell DW/SW costume...

If you're really determined to get a cosplay costume in EUROPE, you might want to browse some European costuming sites or Cosplayisland Forums:
http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/forum
If you're lucky, you might be able to find someone willing to do a commission for you.

EBAY Sellers:
http://stores.shop.ebay.com/hunny-lee_Dynasty-Warriors_W0QQ_fsubZ13QQ_sidZ131556817QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=dynasty+warriors+cosplay&_sacat=See-All-Categories

All in all, if you're not going to make it yourself, you're going to do a lot of searching. If going the Ebay route, remember to check the seller's rating before making a purchase, or you may regret it when the costume arrives...
Good luck. ;)

@nanashimoon:
I haven't made it, but this is how I'd do it:

material:
1 long wooden stick for the grip
8 shorter wooden sticks for the "chain"
4 wodden "pearls" for the ending
1 wooden ring also for the ending
pappmasche or any kind of modeling clay for all kinds of details and the ending of the whip
some carton pieces as base for details
leather, cut in regular stripes to cover the whip in.
golden acryl color
transparent varnish to make it water-proof and shiny

You'll also need a string connecting everything togehter. I found an invisible, strong, thin plastic string for Taigongs rod in the building center. I can check the name up when I'm home if you like.

Make a hole in all wooden sticks where you are going to connect the parts via string.
Put glue on them, before applying the already prepared leather stripes.

Once dried, model the finer details of the grip, before setting it aside to let it dry well.
In the meantime I'd suggest cutting out a similar shape of the blade-like thing at the end out of carton, then use the modeling-stuff to complete it - do include the wooden ring at the end, and do not forge tto include a little hole on top, to connect the string to it.

Now cut out some of those moon-like shapes for the connection pieces between the sticks. Use a thin knitting needle, wooden stick or something like that to allow the string through.

Depending on what material you used you might have to wait for a few days before you are able to work on it again. Read the instructions carefully ;)

Once done, all that is left is coloring :)

Btw. I'm asuming you are talking about the whip shown in this picture http://koeiwarriors.co.uk/artworks/dw6/a-diaochan.jpg

I'm working on a DW6 Lu Meng cosplay (because it will be fairly simple compared to other ideas at the moment and I need to start somewhere). You guys are experts; what would be the best way to replicate his weapon? I want it to look semi-realistic, but not enough to where I'll be questioned by security at conventions (trust me, it's happened before... my harken was taken in for inspection, QUITE hilarious).

Lu Mengs DW 6 weapon (how I'd do it)

Buy a pvc pipe or - if you can find it - a carton roll. this should have the lenght of the hellbard from botton to the top, stopping just short before the top of the upper blade.

See if you can get a carton where you can cut out the whole blade as a one-pice. At least two times. Preferably 3-4 depending on it's tickness.

Glue 2 those pieces togehter - preferably with something like patex, so they'll really stick well.
Cut into the pvc or carton roll and stick the glued together blade into it. If you can - fill out the space between carton and pvc-pipe with styropor or something like that.
I suggest putting a tape around the bottom of the blade, so the pipe will be kept from "breaking appart" where you made the cut for the blade and inserted it.

If it's a pvc pipe, please sand it beforehand. To make certain the color you'll apply will stick, use plaster (the kind you use for putting up wallpapers) and old newspaper to cover the whole pipe.

If you managed to find a fitting carton roll, you can do it, but it is not absoultly necessary.

If you do, let it dry REALLY well. If you are doing this in the evening, I suggest setting it aside and letting it rest until the next day.

Now it's time for some 3-D modelling and adding details. Pappmachee does the trick. Put special attention to forming the blade - especially where blade and staff connect - and the bottom of the staff.

I suggest using some sort of rope to wrap around the staff below the blade and not to try forming it out of pappmachee and to do this at the very end. Again I suggest patex to glue it on.

Once you are done working around with pappmachee and satisfied with the result, let it rest. Usually the pappmachee I work with has to dry 2-3 days, so just check it up with the instructions written on the packet :)

Now, when it's dry, you can sand away irregularities - especially important on the blade, to make it seem straight like real forged metal :)

With this task done you can celebrate - now comes the easy and fun part - put on the colors! ;)
I suggest starting with the bottom piece and letting that one dry really well, so you can out the hellbard onto the floor for the rest.
Then do the blade, so you can lean it onto a chair or something like that when the silver drieds and finally the long staff. Here you can lean it against the wall, since top and bottom should already be dried :)

Apply a layer of clear vanish to make it water proof.

Add the rope as described before and you are finished.

Congrats, you did a Lu Meng's weapon in a realistic manner, yet shouldn't have wasted to much money and still have no problems with weapon checks :)

Note: the carton rolls might be given away for free at places where they sell carpets, because those often come at a roll.
I also got them form my local arts and craft shop after asking if they have some of those. They didn't have them for sale, but they occassionally got them "left" from some material wrapped around it. I asked them if they could "store" them and I would check in once a month or so to pick them up and they did.
Well, I'm a pretty good customer there to ;P
But they shouldn't charge much if they do at all.

@Mooglez : For realistic wigs you can try some eBay's stores. I commended on "ProfessionalOnly" , "CosplayWig" , "Cosplaygoods" or "bang-up-wig".
You can buy it with bid or on "Buy it now".
I hope it will help you ^^
