How much real looking do you want them?
You could always do them yourself, it's not that hard.
If you are up for a try, I'll gladly write you some sort of tutorial like I did for a few other weapons before :)
(And by making it yourself, you should even land far beneath 100 $ )

Well, there are two ways.

First draw the shape of the weapon on carton and cut it out.

Now it depends on what kind of material you are going to use.

The fastest way would be to make it out of wood, copying the form you made onto it, then sewing it out, and sanding it in the proper shape, before adding colors (gold & silver for metalparts).

You can make additional 3-D effects by putting a smaller amount of white and silver to highlight the sharp parts of the blades. Same with gold-highlights. Addiotionally you can darken the "blunt" parts by mixing black to the metal-colors.

Please use separate containers to mix them :)

Once it is dry and you have done both sides of both chakrams, you can now apply the red fabric. You can put cotton wool under it for additional effect and comfort. Now fix it, by wrapping a white rope around it. Generally I'd recommend to tie a smaller band at the end and the beginning of the red fabric (where you put the white rope later on) and sew or glue it for additional hold.

Now you are basically finished :) Just glue three green glass stones to each side and congrats on your first weapon ;)

If you can't work with wood, this is an alternative that I haven't tested so far (I'd imagine those weapons for being simply a show of - no mock-fighting really possible unless both parties are very careful.

Check you local building centre or craft supply store for rings out of polystyrene. They are usually cut in half in the middle, so purchase 4 in the fitting size.

Those will be your chakram-rings :)

Now cut out the middle-section of the rings and the blade from carton. Make the middle-section things a bit longer and the connection pieces of the blades too, so you can glue them to the rings with a glue intended for carton and polystyrene.
Now glue the second half of the rings onto them.

You have the basics for your chakram.
Now wrapp it all up in 2-6 layers of old newspaper and wallpaper glue.
Let it dry well (usually around 2-3 days).

Now you can apply colors and details just like in the progress above.

I hope this was understandable ^^° If not, feel free to ask for more specific details :)

In the second trial your blades will be flat, so the 3D-Effekts through color are especially important :)

Hm... I'm kinda contemplating doing Nobunaga Oda...

BUT - the major trouble I see so far is the hair. I have been unable to find a wig like his - not that I expected to, but one can always hope - but I seem unable to find a black wigh with ponytail in the back as well.

As I do style most of my wigs, I'm not a bit hesitant to just order a black one, without this question answered: Can you use just any wig to pull the hair back into a ponytail? In Nobunaga's case it would have to be a high one. ( I know the neck-ones are no problem, as I'd contemplated making Taigong Wangs alternate costume where he had the hair down and in a ponytail first)

well with my shrine maid i have done. it has a high ponytail as well i would recommend getting a long one. that way u can always cut off the excess. and his is really high so i would recommed bias tape you can find it in the material sectons. to help hold it up. then cut it after you have it in the style u want

Thank you ^^

I already have a long black wig which I do not use anymore, so this is perfect. As to make the hair stand... I already have couple of ideas considering that - especially to keep the pony from 'slipping' down ad I wear it.

Now to get to work *whistling*

If you want some direction on how to do this, I would suggest that you either paint it on, or embroider it on (like I did). The embroidery takes patience and a long time, but people really appreciated the effort that goes into it.

I don't know about individual brands, but I find that ones from China and Hong Kong are generally better quality than those from Britain. You do have to pay out a bit more, but my brother got a really nice one from Hong Kong.

However sorry, I'm not good to advice in cosplay XD Maybe you can use extruded polystyrene & wood to make it. (if you've tools to work with those materials)
Hope pictures will help & give you inspiration, good luck! :)

Serene_ai & Xiaoqiaorocks => I know the way to make it but juz need picture of the family crest only......

The one on the upper right corner is the one on Ranmaru's Clan crest.
(All of those are apparently Mori-Crests, but that one is the one used on Ranmaru - just white instead of black).

And as this is a request for a PICTURE REFERENCE it would belong in the Picture reference thread.

Again part of this belongs to the picture reference thread *sighs*
http://koeiwarriors.co.uk/artworks/sw2/db/sw2db092.jpg

The one on the very right bottom. You could have found it on the main page under SW2 Databook Scans and then gone to Nene's.

As on how to make it... Well, depends on you craftmanship skills. The "easiest" and most accurate way would probably be to carve it out of wood. Question is wether or not you actually can handle the weight of wooden blades of that size or not.

Is your focus to get them done "fast and quickly" or do you want them "as cheap as possible, but still good looking" or do you want "light" weapons?

I used this one
http://www.geocities.com/azuchiwind/mori_ranmaru_crest.jpg
and just blew it up really big. It's ridiculous trying to find an image bigger...

But I did find something really cool ---> http://www.strapya-world.com/products/32314.html
Towards the bottom you can buy a little Mori crest sticker. Neat!

After discussing whether my friend and myself will cosplay yes or no, we finally agreed to still do it, but other characters. I've decided to go for Kenshin Uesugi, SW3 style.

I've been looking a little at what I need, but so far I've only come up with the following:

- White silk-ish pants.
- Same white silk-ish material to create the turban like thing on his head.
- Some leather to make the armour accesories with.
- Boots (Cut out some holes in the bottom that it looks slipper like)

This is basicly what I should get. Only thing is that I don't know how to finish up the material list, and how to actually start to create the suit. Also, Kenshin's sword looks rather difficult to create.

Any tips and pieces of advice would be welcome indeed.

For the armor that is out of metal I suggest cardboard and a mix of newspaper and glue to thicken it and maybe thin layer of pappmachee for stability.

For the gloves, i recommend getting a pair of normal gloves and attatching them to the arm-protectors.
Sewing gloves yourself is a b.... pain and usually not worth the time spent into it.

For the shoes I suggest straw-like flip-flops to built up opon. Will probably be heavy ti find them in this season thought.

For the weapon ... Welll, this one is a bit hard as it is so long.
Do you have the option of making it out of wood? That would probably best in this case.
If not, I'll try to think of another way...

Which bascially brings me to the main question: How much do you want to spend?

EDIT: I almost forgot... For the turban thing I think you could use the cut of a hood and connect it to the black forehead protector and use this one to fix it to your head.

Well, I don't really have a fixed budget planned. I will spend money till it is done, so might cost me some. Also, Is there any other option on making the armour? Since I am terrible at pappmachee. That's why I thought leather would do...

And I could make the sword out of wood. Could be tough sawing it out and forming it (Not to mention time consuming).

Is there anything else I should get?

One thing I learnt from handling greenzaku's Kenshin weapon is that you'd have to have a very strong base to sword connection. That time he was using thick foam as the blades and a wooden core. It almost broke when the wind blew. So when you make the sword, make sure that the connection from the blade to the handle is strong enough.

Armour-wise, Zaku also used plastic files as the pieces and parts of the armour. It stiffer and harder to cut then cardboard. Then there's also the option of using craft foam. I used it for the pieces of my Cao Ren armour.

Hey Nutella, I remember Greenzaku posting an armour tutorial regarding the plastic files somewhere? If you come across it, could you post it here for strategist_jeffo?
strategist_jeffo, is the event you are preparing for coming up soon? Good luck with your SW3 Kenshin!!!

I do think the weapon would be the most difficult, so many thanks for the useful tips, Nutella. Would you think a sword crafted from mainly wood would do? Or could it be too heavy and time consuming?

One-Eyed-Dragon: Me and my friend are planning to take our very first cosplay in the London Expo in May. We have the time to create it.
