Liverpool FC fan Posts: 305 Group: Members Member #22,316 Joined: June 6, 2009 Gender Male	Introduction Koei returns with it's fourth installment of the Dynasty Warriors franchise. (Not counting the spin-offs of the franchise such as Xtreme Legends). With new modes, new characters and improved gameplay this can be described as the best in the series Game Information The core story of the game is taken from the novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." You start off as one of 42 warriors from that era, and fight under a kingdom's banner with the goal of unifying China under that kingdom's banner. Game Modes There are 4 game modes. Musou mode, Free mode, Challenge mode and the all new Edit mode. Musou mode is the the story mode of the game. However, it has gone under a whole transformation. So, rather than choosing one character and playing through his/her stroy and then picking another character and possibly playing the same battles again, you can now select one kingdom and fight through a series of battles whilst having the ability to switch to new a character for a different battle. Free Mode is where you can play as any character from any force and fight in battles they weren't involved in. You can also farm character's abilities if you're struggling in Musou mode. Challenge Mode is similar in that you play as any character, and attempt to earn high score by knocking enemies off of bridges, or destroying objects before time expires etc. The all new Edit mode allows to create yourself and take on the best Chinese history has to offer. However, there is limited creation options, and only four character slots available. Another additon is the Encyclopedia Gameplay The gameplay in Dynasty warriors 4 is easy and simple for newcomers to adapt to. There are 3 main bttons you'll be using, Square, Triangle and Circle. Square acts a normal attack button, adding triangle at the end of a combo gives off a charge atack that deals extra damage, and pressing circle activates a speical musou attack that can only be used when the musou meter is full. A new attack is the "Taunt" attack. By pressing R3, your character will deliver a taunt, knocking enemies off balance, although it leaves your character vunerable to attack. Adding to features are siege weapons! The downside to this is they are computer controlled, so basically you stand there and guard them while the computer controls them. Graphics The games graphics are smooth, but blocky at times, and fogging is carried over from Dynasty Warriors 4. The characters design are also anime-ish but are an improvement from Dynasty Warriors 3 Sound The music of Dynasty Warriors is well orchestrated and fuses together modern day rock with Asian instrumentals. The voice-acting, while not the best ever, is a major step-up from Dynasty Warriors 3. Replay Value With 42 playable characters, 4th weapons to be unlocked, special items to be found and hidden battles to fought, expect to be glued to the TV for a while. Final Thoughts Dynasty Warriors is most definately a step in the right direction for Koei, with new features and replay value. Although the hacking and slashing can get repetitive, it's still a quality game and an improvement for the Dynasty Warriors series
