What does the future hold for the Dynasty Warriors Series?

From Dynasty Warriors 2-5, many fans have been complaining that the game is getting a bit too repetitive. Attacks are the same, stages are the same, characters are the same. There are minor differences but you got to admit, they were just updating the same game. It's as annoying as Street Fighter.

Then comes along Dynasty Warriors 6, hoping to break away from the traditional Dynasty Warriors style, Koei went for something a little different, by little i mean big. They changed the Dynasty Warriors look and every character in it. The moves were fast and powerful and the game was pretty damn easy. The Renbu system was new but now what? They go and scrap the idea already in Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires where the Renbu system doesnt even exist anymore.

What now for the franchise? There no doubt they'll continue with Dynasty Warriors seeing as it has a massive fan base and hopefully there wil be a Dynasty Warriors 6 Xtreme Legends. But wait....they did those to games for dynasty warriors 3-5 as well. Maybe it's time they came up with something different that won't die out.

But after all, this is my opinion, what do you think?

I dont remember complaining about how I thought it was repetative.

Its not as repetetive as people think, there is always some sort of difference to the gameplay. You just have to notice it.

Some good points there Bever
What they need to do is bring more attacks in like In the Lord of the Rings games
and have the real wartime feel, like two massive grand scale armies are about to collide, Not just little groups spread across the map
And develop the siege weapons, it's boring just letting the computer do all the work while you just hack some more enemies
And have the kingdom Musou thing they did in DW4
It' gets kinda boring playing as different characters, but fighting the same battles over and over again
The Xtreme Legends games are kinda pointless
IMO it's kinda milking the franchise
But for now i think KOEI will just stick the the tried and trusted formulae used in DW6

I agree, xtreme legends just seems like a quick way to unlock all the characters in the game which is basically cheating. It would be fun to have you in control more with sige weapons and it would be nice to have the battlefield a bit less narrow (if you know what i mean). Massive armies colliding like in Viking: battle for Asgard.

Oh yeah, essentially, its the same thing.

But there's something different about each one, so thats why people keep coming back for more.

You are right about they come back for more. We arent ever disappointed by the new game but on the long- term a lot of fans can see that they have just done what Street Fighter 2 did and are just making loads of remakes. But Dynasty Warriors 6 was something new but a little overrated but still we're alwasy going ot buy the new ones becuase its a great series and one ill never tire of.

I would like it if they kept the DW5 style but added in some extra ideas rather than completely changing them
I thought character deisgn was fantastic however koei really should have given everyone unique MS.
if it wasn't for pure frustration and lazyness DW6 would have been pretty good ^_^

Yea DW6 did have larger maps and more enemies
But the renbu system was just plain boring
Just keep pressing square till it's full
and the cloning of movesets was just lazy
Don't get me wrong, i love the Dynasty Warriors Series and i'm not bashing Koei
I'm just expressing my opinions

Certain missions work with smaller groups running around the map. Hu Lao Gate and the Yellow Turban missions are good examples of this. Yi Ling too. But yeah, sometimes I just want a big battlefield with two massive armies together duking it out, which we've never really had (save the end of the Yellow Turban map in DW2, where it was you vs about 1,000).

It's time for a change. However, the last full DW game came out a year or two ago now, so surely if they released it next year then it would hopefully have had enough time (I'm saying this hoping that they're working on it now as we speak) and give us a proper quality title.

Hmmn, I have to agree it gets repetitive. But the objectives/ goals in dw6 make it more interesting. The renbu system was a nice change, but

Yuri Lowenthal is horrible as zhang he's voice im afraid. Bring back scott bullock from dw4.

And could we please have zhuge liang less smartass

well i like all of them and i have dw3 and dw3 xl
and all other games thereafter everyone of them all the way to dw6e.

i like dw4 system it was good to have weapon experiance. and the music was good too.

look folks i could talk on and on about these games but to make it short i'll say i enjoyed everyone of them and i hope there is dw7 for ps3 and i hope dw7e changes to it's original form yeah because that is empires and how it should be.

so i guess the only real flaw is dw6e in that they ruined the way you play that game series..... and dw6xl? nahhh we don't need it we should have had that already with new zhu rong. THEN dw6e.. oh welll........

I've never really complained about the Dynasty Warriors series. There are 2 things I am complaining about now, and those are the clone movesets (Started from DW6!) and those moveset issues/bugs in DW6:E for EU.

The renbu is still in DW6:E. It is hardly noticable, but when you upgrade your weapon, you upgrade it's renbu rank aswell. Renbu was quite original, but I hated to do that. One attack from an enemy and your gauge would deplete drasticly.

Dynasty Warriors will most likely continue. I believe DW6:XL is on the agenda for Koei to create. After that, they should pause the mass production of the game to create a DW7 game we have never hoped to see. They have Techmo to support them now, so who knows.

To say about the future of DW depends on Koei. Continue the mass production of poor quality will decrease the popularity. Pause the production to create such a great game together with Techmo, and the future for DW could be bright.

Don't mess this up for me Koei, I don't want these series to end already!

I hope the series continues from where DW6 left off. I am in love with the new character designs, the cinematics, voice overs, improved graphics and environment detail, swimming/climbing, and overall jsut better presentation.

What needs to be heavily improved upon has already been mentioned in this thread and others: more uniqueness to the characters playstyles, more musou modes, and overall more characters in general. I think that's the obvious next logical step for Koei to take. It was a good restart of the franchise, but now they need to fill it out with what makes us love Warriors games.

I personally think the Koei really needs to find some way to totally revitalise the series that doesn't involve making the attacks more simple. Perhaps more than one type of weapon for each character (e.g Zhao Yun has a Spear, a Sword and a Bow) kinda like Strikeforce except with more attacks. Perhaps more cinematic style in the combat along with flashier graphics. Maybe even better story lines which contain some of the darker side of the era e.g friends executing friends, thousands of lives lost, despotic tyrants to give it more of a noir-ish SW1 feel.

However, realistically I think future installments in the series will hold more of the same.

Hm I always talk about this to my friends like is there gonna be a DW10?! But as people have said there have been small changes to each game. Personally I think they should maybe release another, (very different) extension, like XL or Empires
