And am I the only person who liked Hulk-Ralf? :ph43r:
Honestly?

The one thing I liked about KOFXII wanting to be so much a "throw-back", was that a number of the characters and designs did more to resemble their original, retrotastic appearances, some what.

For example, Ralf and Clark in XII basically did more to cite their original Ikari Warriors designs. And with Ikari Warriors being a manly, 2 against many shooting fest, in a tradition not unlike Contra's, it always made sense to me that Ralf and his bud would be brimming with testosterone, and seemingly could snap some one like that pretty boy Ash like a twig. :hehe: :hehe:

Any way. I do see your basic points. But this all relates to what I consider the "HD Slump", where some how, games that go from the PS2 era to this one, seem to suffer in the transition. 8D

Definitely, it goes back before the HD times as well. Just look at Street Fighter, they milked SFII to death and had to move onto Alpha, which was bugged and pretty imbalanced, took them 'till Alpha 2 before we started seeing the worthy game.

But yeah, FFXIII seems to have disappointed quite a few, Devil May Cry 4 didn't set the world ablaze, Soul Calibur IV could've been a lot more, it's hit some series ( and probably will continue to hit more ) but I hope it won't be Basara's case.

Just a character we were alluding to from KOFXII, the game we were (hopefully unsuccessfully ) comparing to how Basara 3 could turn out.

While I do agree that this has been a noticible pattern, where a series on the PS2 suffered when making the switch to the PS3, it doesn't look like it is fixed. I think I can safely say that Ratchet & Clank, Tekken, and Metal Gear Solid were all able to keep their stride and up the ante for the new gen. So Basara may not be as doomed, so long as Koba's hauling his ass as hard as we hope he is.

And maybe that's the problem; hype leads to disappointment. If you notice, the series you and I have mentioned are all big-name series with large fanbases. And all of these games have done well review-wise. The hatred towards DMC4, SC4, etc. seems to be from Western audiences who expected too much from the game and threw a **** storm about this actual result (no offense to anyone here ^_^ ). But maybe Basara might benefit from having no Western audience, as only the IG(4)Norantly blind ( ) could destroy SB3 for its "connections" to DK/DW/SW. :sly:

SASUGA KOBA!

Oh, and we got super valuable information on the 2010 Haru no Jin event. Now THAT was worth waiting. Right? Right??????

Yeah, thought so.

Besides WKC... I will get SSF4. Who's getting it? I haven't bought SF4 cuz of lack of characters.

As for games in well established franchises... none of em lived up to their name. DMC4 is worse than DMC3 plus it has less weapons. Same goes for GTA4(even though the little details were neat), FF13(no towns apparently), Resident Evil 5, Tekken 6(this one is debatable), Soul Calibur 4(this is also debatable) etc etc/.

Wait...what?

Her skills? What the...

No seriously WHAT THE... ...

Is that supposed to be funny? Her skills? What´s the next update? Ieyasu´s eyes follow your mouse movement? A picture of Kobayashi´s breakfast?

Oh man...I don´t have much budget to spend this year and as Ben said, there are a lot of games that catch more attention right now like Final Fantasy XIII, God of War III, White Knight Chronicles, etc.

Koba, c´mon, do something <_<

Well, they announced the new event, and from spring a "Basara radio" something will start too.

I don't think he's losing interest...he just thinks he can get away with it, the fat bastard....

Let's not forget SF4. Great transition, just thought I'd put that out there :P

And this is lame. I would've thought we would have gotten more than just this. Come on CAPCOM :(

Personally I wouldn't care if they took longer to start putting updates up but did it on a steady pace afterwards. I don't think Capcom or Koba are losing interest in the game, but these info release schedules are really messed up.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to synchronize game, manga, anime and live events...but this is too inconsistent for my tastes.

A fellow forum member (can't recall who atm) presented before the possibility that maybe we might not be getting as much content as we initially thought we would.
That said, I still keep my high expectations thanks to the various gameplay tweaks that seem interesting and I like most of the new characters so far, but perhaps we should brace ourselves for the worst as Koba's last venture promised lots and delivered fews.
My only hope is that they're not cutting characters in favor of some half-baked game mode that in the end nobody plays.

Moving on, this Haru no Jin event tengumaru mentioned, is it scheduled for MAY?!!? Rather long wait, if it is so.
Well, at best we might see new or at least returning characters announced and at worse 2m gameplay videos for Kanbei and Tsuruhime.

Ultimately, on this whole update debate, I agree with Nine Demons Yoshitaka: the bastard thinks he can get away with this (and he actually does, all things considered).

Yeah, I think that's what makes me so annoyed of this. Others here have likened it to the update schedule for SSBB which I think is a fair analogy. The difference is that I didn't feel like I was being jerked around with small insignificant details, and long stretches of nothing. Now I wasn't half as exited for Brawl as for this but I still kept an eye on the news flow and it didn't strike me as this bad.

It's frustrating because even through all we put up with in this carousel of waiting I keep coming back. I just wish that we were treated a bit better.

Well, ya know what?

I wish that ninja would think he and Capcom could keep playing us like this. He seems to forget that a good number of people have reason to be wary of him, thanks to DMC4. And thanks to the things that have happened with SB3 thus far, he's got more of an upward battle than he may not be giving enough credit for.

You're not Nintendo, Koba. You don't get their "allowances" when it comes to things like this. You don't advertise the hell out of this game, and keep it in our faces, your game is NOT going to sell as well as you, your company and their stockholders would like. And your advertising
"campaign" (such as it is) would be to blame, if that were the case...

I was wondering about that. While I'm a fan of the DMC series, I passed on DMC4. Just quickly, what about it was so disappointing? Was it the general annoyance(from what I've gathered) of playing as Nero? Or that the story was lacking or something?

You know, I checked my calender, and if you count the entire month of June, there's 20 updates left to make. Just by giving us a gameplay video of all the characters so far, that's 8 slots filled already. With that throw in some new characters, let's say about 4 for arguments sake, and their gameplay videos that's a total of another eight updates(if each revealed new character is done separately) which brings it to 16. I don't think it's asking to much to have them execute the updates in this manner.

Without wanting to drift too far from Basara or spoil too much for anyone interested in DMC4; it made the mistake of having you repeat certain sections after a point in the game which kinda felt....meh, surely they could've come up with something new? Nero was passable, not up to Dante's cheese-o-meter but he was playable enough. What it was missing for me was...spark, x-factor, mojo, whatever you want to call it, it basically couldn't keep me gripped, and I finished both characters in DMC2 happily enough and would put that above DMC4. Basically I didn't feel it had the balls that the other games had.

I suppose that is kind of worrying in a sense, since to me Basara is all about mojo, it's far from the best game in technical terms and it's gameplay is pretty limited, but I still love it for the overall package. The stupidity and brazenness of it all is what sells it to me, if it feels as tame as DMC4 did then it'll have lost a great deal. Even if it has a fair few flaws but goes for audacity in what it does then I'll probably be able to forgive it. A floating mummy with giant Buddha prayer beads is a pretty good starting point.

Certainly I'm not the only one who enjoyed the hell out of DMC4. AND Nero. Am I?

Back on the topic: maybe the Basara series is enough known through merchandise other than games so Koba and his team can slack off with promotion. Who knows. It did became a very popular series in Japan, even with questionable games like Battle Heroes. The popularity didn't fall, it rose.

That said, I don't enjoy this the slightest. Kobayashi should give more attention to the series he made is believe he likes so much. This situation is rather strange if you ask me.

I don't see why Koba HAS to pick up the pace in the update pattern, now don't get me wrong, I'm not defending him per se, just trying to bring some reason to this thread. Now, Capcom obviously has a pattern, or, a better word for it, schedule for releasing the info, they have the content, but they're going to release it in a certain way. So far we've been seeing characters every month or so, usually after the voice updates, SO logically we shouldn't EXPECT characters untill Mar 9th ish area. So we shouldn't get upset for not getting to see characters each week when thats been the pattern so far.

Even though i thought we would be seeing another video today aswell, its not surprising that we didn't, because they obviously never intented to have a video released today, mayeb they want it to be Vide>Skills>Video>Skills>Video&voice> Voice>Voice>New characters. They're playing it by week, so we shouldn't expect to see BIG GIANT OHMIGAWDSOAWESOME news every week, obviously we'll get some crap news some weeks, but in the end everything will be revealed. Besides, we might only be getting new character vids (+poster boys obviously, its a rule of thumb) and not every single character.

If you expect something, your going to be disapointed, thats just how life is, we get news every week, it may be crap news that you don't really care about, but there is always next week, all you need is patience and it will eventually come. There is still a good 20-28 weeks before the release, Koba can't throw everything at us now, because then by release date there will be no hype.

Anyway, thats just my view, take it or leave it.

Of course everyone wants to see new things, because we highly anticipate this game. And we don't mean "Crashing boom bang" news either...just something more than screenshots we've already seen. I know that not all fans keep an eye on the gaming magazines, but at least don't use the same friggin' pictures every time....

And if, as you say, their pattern is stable, we'd have already seen a batch of new characters, since it's february now. But no, it looks like they're going to push until march with...screenshots and character clips...?

To me it looks like they're not going to put up gameplay vids that don't star new characters. (and maybe this is a wise choice, since revealing too much would kill the surprise factor)

In the end, I don't know if the update pattern is lacking, or we're just too eager to see new things...probably a mixture of both...

I agree with tengumaru here, its the update pattern thats annoying me more than anything. Its hard to predict whats coming next and we sometimes get dissapointed. Take this past month, we got Kanbei, Tsuru and Yoshihiro character updates, then we got Kanbei's skills and a Yoshitsugu game play vid, and then we just got Tsuru's skills.

After getting Kanbei's skills without his voice, but with the Yoshi vid, its only natural we should have expected to get another game play vid this week along with Tsuru skills, but we didn't...

And whats the whole deal with not updating the voices along with the skills? I could understand if they didn't want to spoil us and just give us the skills and a game play vid, but seeing as this is no longer the case...

Its like the update pattern changes every new batch. I wish they'd have just keep it constant since the beginning so we know what to expect and not set ourselves up for dissapointment. This is my only complaint to Koba (apart from the obvious). I don't think hes starving us for info, as it hasn't been a month since we got our last batch, but I was expecting the info to pick up this year...

At least it isn't as bad as the wait between Yoshi's batch and Maggie's. What was that, like, a month and a half? And that batch wasn't exactly one of our favourites... :/
But still, with the recent one revealing not four, but five characters, the info drips have sorta picked up, as long as we get the same every month...
