From what I remember, Yoshitsugu was revealed in mid-October, Maggie in early December and Kanbei/Tsuru in mid January. So, if you think about it we shouldn't get a new batch of characters until early March. |

No, you are most certainly not. That is my favorite game of all time. The storyline is AMAZING. I don't like Nero as much as Dante, but the interactions between them were awesome, looking forward to DMC5. On-topic-God, koba. You need to step it up. Can somebody tell me how to get to somebody's skills on the website(I can't read Japanese) so I can see why everybody is pissed off about Tsuruhime's skills? Thanks. |

You just have to look at the update dates. 18th February Kanbeiīs voice. 25th February Tsuruīs voice 4th March update Yoshihiroīs voice. 11th March update Kojuuroīs voice. 18th March update Sasukeīs voice. So on 25th March we MIGHT get some new characters. AT THE END OF MARCH. If this goes on the 19 characters prediction sounds more and more likely. Koba, you gotta be joking. In games like BASARA, Dynasty & Samurai Warriors, etc. thereīs allways one point everyone complains about: Variety in gameplay. They all say itīs just button-mashing to kill 100 enemys of the same type to face the same bosses over and over again. But in my eyes thatīs not true. Cause everytime you pick another character, he feels and plays different. You have to approach enemys different and try to figure out the best way to get high combos. So if you take away even one character, the variety gets reduced drastically. Also 19 is less then SB2 had and thatīs pretty dissapointing. We allready have 13 characters. That would mean only 6 characters are left. With Kotaro, Musashi, Hisahide, Toshiie/Matsu and Oichi as most likely returning characters still out there and many new missing characters like Sasaki Kojiro, Mogami Yoshiaki, Hosokoawa Tadaoki, Todo Takatora, Kobayakawa Hideaki, Hattori Hanzo, Shima Sakon, Ukita Hideie, Tachibana Ginchiyo, ChaCha etc. out there...itīs a pretty pathetic number

I think people are having great expectations for this mostly because of the "sacrifices" made. A good deal of characters, and really awesome ones at that, got downright killed so most are hoping the roster in 3 will at least fill that gap. And honestly, I think those are relatively legitimate expectations. Sooo...*pulls out calculator* so far we got 7 down (I'll be generous and not consider the half-baked 2-skill NPCs turned PCs for Heroes), 6 new characters (Ieyasu included for generosity's sake) and those 6 Devilsking mentioned are the most likely candidates for a comeback (some as NPC). Obviously the Basara team is going to raise the bar here. On a side note, I do wonder if the updates are taking it's time because they are still deciding what characters to appear and how to design them? As Xanxus mentioned, there's still a lot of time until release, so a lot can happen. Let's hope that "lot" is a good one. Jumping on the DMC4 bandwagon, personally, my main gripes with it were the "recycling" of bosses and, of course, most of Dante's quest, the anti-climatically disappointing endboss and, (yes, I know it's not that much of a big deal...) Lady having such insignificant screen time. BUT the gameplay at it's core is very commendable, namely Dante's real time style switching and the various throwbacks to DMC1 such as DT exclusive abilities and enemy parallels (I still think the Angelos theme sounds very similar to Ultra Violet). |

That could very well be the reason for this erratic update pattern. Regarding skills, I know there's the three different button combination's you can map skills to but are there only going to BE 3 skills for each character? |

I sincerely doubt that. Those kinds of decisions have to be made in pretty early stages, and even though it still is some time left until the release date it's not that long. You know, even though I was frothing at the mouth earlier I feel like I gotten it out of my system now. I'm tired of moaning about this. Barring any extremely questionable moves on their part, I am going to buy SB3 on day one and I'm sure I'll enjoy it immensely. Until then I'm just going to try and calm down my own brewing storm and just go with it. Because strangely enough, I have faith that they'll do a good job(strange because I am a well documented skeptic). I think it's because I have such enormous expectations that I just felt really burned. Don't get me wrong I still think that yesterdays update was a huge d**k-move. But you know what? Whatever. SB3 is still my most anticipated game in quite some time. Besides we still have some time left. At least four months actually, which is a bit annoying since I'm not a patient man, but I'll get through it. Frankly anything can still happen. Maybe next batch of characters will be 3 new and 2 returning. Might seem improbable considering the previous "pattern" but the point is we just don't know. For all we know, the upcoming updates of the voices might carry with it some other little piece of news that adds to the information. Who knows, might happen. So, looking forward, next week is the last free update slot before the voice clip onslaught. I expect that it'll be the Maggie video since Yoshitsugu was last week. So, I guess I'll just go ahead and look forward to that(without getting my hopes up to high of course )

*facepalm* And the new update is Tsuruhime's skills? That's it? Really? C'mon, Koba, it's like an April Fool's joke 2 months early. Like wht everyone's saying, I'm pissed off less with the actual content and more with the lack of a consistent pattern. After the awesomness of 3 characters one week and a gameplay vid the next, we wind up with an update for info we already knew and pics that we've already seen. I like to make the SSBB analogy a lot, because it works. One update every weekday. You didn't know what was coming, but at least you knew it would be something. But this, oh man, this is just random. |

Well, I do remember that...I guess it was last year...they said that the game is...sadly donīt remember the exact number...[insert number]% finished and that they still discuss which characters should be added. So they really might add some characters. Or at least buy time so they can concentrate on finishing all the characters and shortly before the release have a real blow-out party and reveal so much stuff we wonīt even get time to discuss it. But then I donīt understand why A) They "revealed" the game so soon B) Why they didnīt just release one character each week, so itīs more "bearable" to wait for the game C) They sit on gameplay videos and ration other infos on the game, like they expect a world war I mean we still donīt have a video of Tadakatsu, Motochika, Motonari, Magoichi, Keiji and now Kanbei, Tsuru and Yoshihiro. Those are 8 videos, meaning 8 updates, meaning 8 weeks, meaning 2 months worth of being called an update. I mean we know allmost nothing about the modes of BASARA 3, havenīt seen or heard anything about the stages in SB3, havenīt heard anything about the weapons, items or elements, havenīt seen any new enemy types, no Tsuchi Artworks, we are still waiting for that new story trailer NDY talked about, there are still new and old characters out there and we still need to see some videos of the allready revealed characters. Shouldnīt they be able to give us a decent update each week with all thatīs there?

And that's what's getting repeated a lot here as the main complaint: The info we have is surprisingly small if you take into account the fact that it's released in Japan in a matter of months. It may be due to there not being as much content as previously speculated. But it may also be due to foolish thinking on Koba's part. Think about it: Everything he's done seems to be an attempt to milk the existing fanbase. He has not advertised the game strongly, as though he expects the game to sell well regardless. He has not built any hype, instead using the hype that the fanbase has generated themselves. This may work in Japan, but for the rest of the world, this franchise will be doomed. |

True, but maybe, just maybe, this will change in the near future. He still has a couple of months after all. And who knows? Maybe they're scrambling to get everything together, and as a result we suffer. |

See, this is one thing I noticed. Koei released a ridiculous amount of information and now that everything's been seen and discovered by fans, interests have pretty much decreased. Koba, on the other hand, gives little drips of information, but to the point that it serves to anger the fans and interest kind of drops (well, not really. If anything is turns into RAGE, but I can understand). Luckily for me I'm not a huge fan of Basara (yet) so the long waits between each update isn't really getting to me like everyone else. Hey, look at the bright side, Basara fans. At least Koba is sure to release SB3 overseas now. |

Problem is, content updates for both the official site and Famitsu are too inconsistent and erratic. Instead of keeping consumer interest on a desirable level, this keeps it going up and down, but never up enough. They didn't need to start the updates so early, for example. They could announce the game just to let people know it's in development, then wait some (several?) months and just then starting throwing steady waves of info at fans and non-fans alike. I can only imagine that if us, fans who are not fujoshi fangirls, get doubtful about the game amidst this situation, possible future fans won't even start caring about it. |

Alright, I don't know if this is going to apply for Japan but, look at Modern Warfare 2. It is a terrible game(IMO, because you can't be legit) but yet, millions of people are playing it. But that is not what I'm expecting from BASARA 3. If anybody was hyped for MW2, like me(Yes, I was very dissapointed). You would know that they didn't release that much at all. If we can figure out the reason for that, than maybe that can lead to why Koba is not sending out that many updates. |

I was about to say what Tengumaru here said. I can't call myself a fan, since I've never played the games, but I'm trying to get interested, and it's a little hard. Again, I have to use the SSBB analogy, because it works. Sakurai knew what he was doing: Keep the updates decent and consistent nd the interest will remain. Koba's method of providing very few updates over long periods, some updates being info already revealed through other sources, doesn't work. And neither does KOEI's method of releasing massive amounts of info all at once. That's all people are really asking for here: Consistency. @xXBasaraIsBestXx: I don't know whether to agree or disagree, and any attempt by me to analyze it is leading me towards the latter. Please clarify.

tengumaru, I meant that there wasn't constant updates for modern warfare 2. And now, millions of people are playing it. (Forget about my opinion on that game) So, maybe Koba is doing something similar. And a lot of things exploded around the time of release for that game. So maybe that's what Koba is trying to do. Just a speculation. Edited by Flashbang Incentive, Sat Feb 6, 2010 11:30 pm.

MW2 is a bad analogy. The genres do not match, thus having "character updates" for MW2 wouldn't make any sense. MW2 wasn't leaving people wondering who would be in the game as a returning favorite or not. Your message lacks substance...it is like comparing muffins to salads. : [ I think its hilarious you guys are still interested in this obviously gutted game. Hiroyuki Kobayashi promises caviar, and he gives you charred rotten goose eggs. This is nothing new from such a deplorable bastard who should be kicked out of the video game industry. His ideas have run dry, his hype machine has broken, and his talent is gone. From what we've seen so far, what does this game bring to the table? Anything new? Anything with substance? Even DW6 brought more changes, though not exactly welcomed. |

...the problem is exactly that we don't know what this game will really offer and contain...it might be a milestone in the hack & slash genre, or a marvelous flop. We don't know! Kobayashi's update antics might suck, but this has nothing to do with the game itself. Calling it gutted before it's even out is just....stupid, honestly. |

Hum, I see. The problem with your comparsion is that MW2 already had a huge fanbase waiting for the game, so the info updates were more directed at feeding old fans than creating new ones. It's been a year since Battle Heroes, which was a pretty mediocre game, and what, three years since SB2H? And it was just an expansion set for SB2, albeit a fun one. Sengoku Basara 2 was released in 2006. This means this will be the first (at least theoretically) truly new entry in the series in four years. Only one year passed between SB1 and SB2. Creating new stuff (and by "stuff" I don't mean only characters) and promoting it seriously (which really isn't happening) to conquer new players is what Capcom has to do. Watchtower's SSBB comparsion is pretty much perfect I guess. They were DAILY updates, always with something funny, interesting or noteworthy to capture new fans and cater to old ones. Jeez, I never had interest in Super Smash Bros. before the Brawl "campaign". So Kobayashi has a lot to learn from Sakurai. Let's just hope for the best. @NDY: The troll must not be fed.
