"Don't fix what's not broken",that's what DW6 fails to do strikeforce went well, combining BASARA's shortness&grinding for materials(which a lot of people love, apparently) DW6:E was bearable to some people because of the gameplay tweaks&the CAW(which i can't understand where the beauty of it) but alas, these games only needs ONE demo vid to explain pretty much everything, the characters aren't much diverse, and free moveset change only makes everyone even more generic that's not the case in SB,the updates focusses on the CHARACTERS and not the swimming and ladder climbing nonsense because the characters is what they're trying to sell,i bet people were more interested in yoshitsugu's 3 minute vid compared to a 15 minute long SW3 kanbei demo focusing on his gameplay aspect(not the whole SW3 map missions),even though both uses orbs of doom to hurt people and the characters they offer so far is new enough of a feature, especially the newcomers and the replacements,at least for me,while minor stuffs like guard bases and all is just the icing on the cake. |

wodash is bang on. "Don't fix what's not broken". Its pretty hard to add tons of new stuff to games like Musou and BASARA without totally changing the core game play. Take DW6 as an example, Renbu, IMO, made the game very droll and monotonous, where as the previous titles at least had unique charge moves which made the games pretty fun. All I practically did on DW6 was constantly mash square... And besides, BASARA 3 is, so far, definitely an improvement from its predecessors game play wise. We've got the new dashing feature, which is likely to make the game even more speedy and flashy, we've got the base feature, which adds a layer of depth and difficulty to the stages, we've got the clash feature, which will make the boss fights more of a challenge and we've got battle time drive, to rack up nice, big combos and again, add to the games stylish flair. Not to mention the unique character abilities and new skills for the old school players. All that is more than enough for me, and none of them seems like there going to make the game worse. Hmm, well, I think its been around a month since Kanbei and Tsuru was revealed. I wonder what the chances are that we'll see something this Famitsu

We can only hope! By the way, it's the first time I see someone using the word "droll" out of a piece of literature...is it a typo, or did you really mean it? By the way, if you go the series' portal site and scroll to the bottom, your mouse pointer will become a sword and soldiers will start running from left to right trough the screen. You can click on them to slash them. Pointless, but...well, ok, just pointless. |

Whoops! forgive me. I basically meant that I find the Renbu system... repetitive. Actually, I find that portal site thing pretty cool. I've never really noticed it before. Its kinda nice seeing designers put effort into thier work after all. Well, this week could either be a epic win for us BASARA fans, assuming we'll get a batch showing off 2 new characters, or could be, again, another slow one with just Yoshihiro's skills... lets hope its the former ![]() Speaking of our next batch, we have no clue on which characters we'll be seeing. We didn't get a silhouette, so we don't even know what the new characters gender is and with Sasuke and Kojurou finally confirmed NPCs, we have no idea who'll be next to join that... depressing club. Kind of exciting if you think about it If I were to guess, I'll say we'll see Yoshiaki and perhaps either a Tachibana or Hanzo. As for returning characters... maybe Matsu? NPCs... I don't really want to think about it... Edited by Manta Punk, Sun Feb 7, 2010 5:45 pm.

You forgot the lips man, the lips! Seriously though, I agree with what you're saying. By the way, I never really understood the unique character skills bit. I know that I've seen some information about Ieyasu and Mitsunari's UNC's(unique character skill) but I haven't heard the specifics. Can somebody please fill me in?
Not to rain on your parade, but wouldn't we already known if there was going to be something in the next Famitsu? I mean, doesn't it list that information about upcoming issues in the back of the magazine?
I would love if we got a new batch, but I don't think this week's the week. Rather I think that we'll get Yoshi's skills and Maggie's gameplay video. What would be your dream-batch if we were to get another 2 new, 1 returning this week? Feel free to include NPC's as well. Personally, I would like to see...Hanzo/Saizo and Sakon as the newcomers and Hisahide(please Koba!) as the returning. |

Putting aside our status as established fans of the franchise, I say the biggest problem with the random updating is that it's most likely failing to captivate the attention of those unfamiliar to the series. And with so much flashier stuff going around seeking to deprive us of our hard-earned currency, one can't really blame the average consumer. Perhaps, as some have mentioned, the game was announced too early, so it's likely Koba&co. will pick up the pace and start advertising the game full-force when it's near completion. Maybe it's a erroneous example but look at Bayonetta, a completely new title (as SB3 must aim to be overseas) with a blitzkrieg marketing campaign that worked wonders for it. And something I'd like to ask my fellow forum members regarding the game's cast - anyone else think that the roster is, at least so far, missing on "evil" characters? I mean, before we had: Complete Monster - Nobunaga Ax Crazy - Mitsuhide Well-intentioned Extremist - Hideyoshi Magnificent Bastard - Hisahide So far it seems the villains are Mitsunari and Yoshitsugu but, as much as I like them, as villains they appear to be "by-products" of their condition/status quo (Hideyoshi falls on this as well, but his presence commands too much awe and respect). Basically, the roster is yet missing on someone "doing it for the evulz". Alas, this could be intentional on Koba's part if he considers that excluding villains without plausible motivation is also part of making the story more serious. |

@troll-chan I think it's pretty obvious the game has been gutted. But they are adding these so called magnificent new characters. Besides Ieyasu/Mitsu and Mago. THe rest of the new characters don't really interest me... especially Yoshi and Kanbei. Yoshi(underwhelmed by recent gameplay vid) and Kanbei for his lame ball and chain. Mayb I'm not really digging the weapon... mayb I would like him better if he had a better costume/face( no hair covering the eyes) and a similar weapon like a badass mace. Hell it could even be an extending mace for all i care. I don't care what any1 tells me. Kanbei's costume is just generic. This is basara... give me something crazy. I mean there is a good reason why u took out fan favourites like nagamasa right Koba? Edited by eklineage, Sun Feb 7, 2010 7:22 pm.

Ouelis - How could I have forgotten the lips!? Especially seeing as this is the first game using Aniface tech, if I remember correctly. The personal abilities are unique to each character, thus making each character radically different from one another. We haven't really too much info about them, but apparently Masamune's is his six sword S-string, Mitunari has his speed, Ieyasu can charge up his attacks, Yoshitsugu can target specific enemies, Maggie can change her S-string according to what fire arm she used last, and apparently, Tsuru has her recoil ability. It'll definitely be interesting seeing what the other characters have in store for us. As for my dream batch, Mechashige/Shima Zakun would be pretty nice. I think we need another Mecha to stir things up a bit, and who'd be more fitting than Muneshige or Sakon? Kanetsugu announced as a unique character and Koba revealing it was all a horrible prank (This is my dream batch after all ) and Toshiie being confirmed as a PC. Well, besides from being totally unrealistic, that batch would seriously please me beyond belief Anyway, I still don't understand the beef with Kanbei's design. True, its not as vibrant as the other ones, but I think thats what they were going for, the dirty, rag tag fugitive appeal. I doubt spending time in prison, your gonna come out sporting hot pink and fluorescent orange. Also, I like the hair. It portrays his story pretty well and is totally unique compared to the rest of the cast. Again, after spending time in a cell, you ain't gonna come out with anime-esque gelled up locks, are you...? Plus, before people judge him, how about we wait until we get his Tsuchi art? |

I agree but I understand that he's a bit unusual in the BASARA-verse since he doesn't really have any vibrant colors. I'm going to say something now that's probably gonna land me in some hot water, but hear me out. Watching Ieyasu's gameplay video, I'm struck by another character who I think has the same kind of dull colors, namely Sasuke. Because when you think about it has a pretty mundane design as well, at least when it comes to color. But since we've had first hand experience with his gameplay, his character and last-but-not-least his Tsuchi art, I think he "pops" in entirely different way. That's my oppinion at least. |

I agree with Todo and Shima but Matsu...NPC!!! Hell to the no I wouldn't call this game gutted. There are still a few more months left. And who knows, maybe Koba is planning to release all the major info in the last one or two months before the release of the game. Thats what Square-Enix did with TWEWY and it worked quite well as because the big hype and info was released before the games release. Keeping people interested with all the new info revealed earned it 1 million copies bought in on week. However revealing the news little by little would kill the hype seeing as the revealed news from..lets say...3 months ago wouldn't excite you as much now as it would then when it is freshly revealed. I personally liked that logic, though the wait was quite agonizingly merciless . It took us fans quite a while to figure out why Square Enix did that but in the end, using that strategy, it earned them big $$$$. Edited by So Nyuh Shi Dae, Tue Feb 9, 2010 11:07 pm.

you mean yoshitsugu?,since hisahide is still not confirmed whether he's in or out,AND that he looks nothing like prince ali compared to our carpet riding ruroni kenshin villain clone.... well, its war,for all they care the opposite side is always EVULZ,just like what nagamasa always said, and hey, yoshitsugu is mitsuhide enough for me,although so far he seems to be quite supportive of mitsunari compared to how mitsuhide works for the odas...... |

Hmm. I don't get this thing about the characters, maybe because what I look forward the most in Basara is gameplay....and except Hisahide no one has made me go fanboyish yet...or maybe because I like them all (except Ranmaru).... By the way, eklineage, of all people, calling necrosis a troll....just made my day. this thread delivers. @ Ouelis: These are all characters' unique characteristics, off the top of my head. Ieyasu: can charge normal attacks/skills by holding down on the attack button. Works with jump attacks too (tested it myself, that was one hell of a elbow drop) Mitsunari: high speed movement. Looks like the Divine Step (Shunpo) from Bleach. He uses it in some skills, the Basara attack, and apparently if you push a certain combination of buttons he does it after attacking (not sure, just read this on 2ch) Magoichi: In her normal s-string she uses a pair of magnums. But if she uses a machine-gun skill, she will use the machine-gun in her s-string afterwards. Same thing goes for the shotgun. I don't know the details very well, but her Basara also slightly changes depending on the firearm actually in use. Yoshitsugu: He can apply a "star mark" on his enemies (as clearly seen in his gameplay vid), which adds a homing function on his attacks. (The above were confirmed in Famitsu. For some reason, the other characters didn't get such a clear explanation, so what follows is just speculation) Masamune: 1 Sword/ Six Swords s-strings? Yukimura: No idea...burning attacks? Keiji: Canceling skills in other skills, possibly? Yoshihiro: No idea.... Tsuruhime: Same as above. Kanbei: maybe causing shockwaves when attacking? From the screenshots it looks like he causes them with the piledriver and the ball pound skill too.... If someone has any suggestions, please post them! Isn't Yoshihiro's perk that ' very deadly if used right'? You know, like using that skill that can OHKO enemy generals with the correct timing, equipment and such. |

@ BK: you're probably right, but I thought that these "characteristics" were something that spanned a character's entire moveset...or at least a good part of it...If all of Yoshihiro's moves had a certain kill %, I would agree, but with just only one skill doing that.... I don't know, I hope he has something that completely sets him apart from the rest too. |

Will there be More than two special attacks in this game, where you set them R1 square or triangle, ex. like devil kings(or sengoku basara 1 i guess xD ) each character have like four different special attack and you would have to choose two of them. Or wil it be like Sengoku Basara Battle Heroes? |

And this is exactly what I meant when I was complaining about gameplay changes. Give some new stuff to the characters, to make them more unique. This is seriously nice, and I hope all of them get this treatment. A Rokusouryu S-String for Masamune seems pretty reasonable to me, as the shockwave thing with Kanbei. Didn't Tsuru's skills had something to do with the arrows bouncing around? |

If I remember correctly, it apparently has something to do with the "recoil" of her attacks. I'm not entirely sure how that would work as a positive trait though. Xanxus; Oh, you mean that it's her targets that suffer the recoil affect, not Tsuru herself. That makes a lot more sense .

Nope, shes the one 'suffering' the recoil effect. And its good in a way because her arrows must cover a long distance and so she can fire away without getting too close, and if she does get close, her skills and etc help her get away from said attacks. |
