Hondam, Thanks for confirming that elements are still in. I guess it's same to assume weapons, armor and items are still in as well. I'm still very skeptic about alternate costumes...they'll probably charge us for 'em, a la SFIV. And I agree with you in regards of the fanservice debate. Indeed, the game does not need Western audiences to survive. Some months ago we had this discussion when NDY posted the series' sales figures and in my ignorance I imagined the franchise might be canned if SB3 flopped, but I was not aware of how much a merchandising giant Sengoku Basara is. Indeed, that alone, centered in Japan, is what keeps the franchise alive. And I also mentioned it before - they are catering to a fanbase. Just look at the excluded characters. I don't think it's mere coincidence that, Hanbei aside, none of the pretty boys got excluded. But, you have to admit that Kobayashi's decisions have mostly been arbitrary and from that interview NDY posted, ridiculous at best. But regardless of what fans he wants to please, he seems to be calling all the shots unilaterally without considering popular demands. Just compare this game's development with Super SFIV's that had a blog where they answered to fans' concerns and all the returning characters got picked abiding to popularity polls, even against the personal wishes of the director, Ono. I think that at it's core, it's this arrogance that made a lot of people here, myself included, question his professionalism. But anyway, in regards of who we're getting, I'd say 3 characters, just one NPC por favor! - Amago rep (time to let this cat out of the bag) - Otomo (I can see this being his weapon) - NPC Zabii I may be wrong (and would prefer so) but I think it's a bit "early" to reveal the more important newcomers like (hopefully) Hideie and Takatora. |

I guess these are all the characters. I think I'll just wait for an expansion or something. I dunno who mentionned this game revolutionized BASARA(can't tell if it was this forum or another) but that statement is highly laughable. I think some people are in denial. SB3 was an improvement in gameplay but to say that it revolutionized the franchise is just plain ridiculous. Also...who was the one who started the rumor about payable costumes cuz' that's just disgusting. |

Yeah, the Japanese fanbase have quite different tastes from what many Westerners expect and no amount of complaining is going to change the fact that Basara is a Japanese franchise and aims to please it's home audience over all. The West is just a side-dish. It's like what happened with NIER recently. The Japanese fanbase weren't attracted to the idea of a big, burly, dog-ugly middle aged man as the protagonist, no matter how badass he might be, so the game was re-released in Japan with a different title and a young, pretty, teenage hero. That was all the changes they made. *EDIT* Though I have to agree with Devilsking, the Japanese-only version is much better. As far as Capcom are concerned, we can take it or leave it. It's not going to trouble them if we choose the latter. Edited by murakumo, Tue May 11, 2010 7:15 pm.

Yeah...and that Nier is way better then the version we get http://www.gametrailers.com/video/abstract-features-littlebigplanet-2/100073 Just watch the interview with the Co-Founder of Media Molecule about Little Big Planet 2. Thatīs what I mean with a good game. They have the graphics, sound, gameplay all perfectly done, but actually get the fan service too. Spoiler: click to toggle Now that this is out of the way again, Iīm still hoping for news. News that prove me wrong, that Koba isnīt a soulless being that begs to be the headline of failure in gaming history. |

Well, wherever our opinions may differ, we at least agree on this much. Again, I don't really have high hopes for this game in the West. And going by Capcom's projections on their most recent IR document that was put out yesterday, it seems they don't either. BASARA's not in any danger, though. It just more than likely means that "Samurai Heroes" will do more to shut the book on any more BASARA in the west, for good. Capcom of Japan will be nonplussed, otherwise. Any way...with only two months left til the game's release...c'mon, Koba, get on the stick with giving my preorder on PA sweet vindication, already. You don't have to worry about Kenshiro any more, and at this point, you may actually face competition from other Capcom games like Dead Rising 2, among others. In other words, shake a friggin' leg already! |

Speaking of NIER and Western audiences, I wonder how the later are dealing with, you know....her.....him........it. On a side note, if we really are just getting 5 more characters then the would-be hype train will be reaching it's destination much sooner than expected. Let's hope these last months can compensate for the initial draught. |

While you certainly don't give a damn about the series welfare in the West, SOME of us do. Some of us would rather not see this fail like it very well might, as we like to play games in a tongue we speak, and characters we can read. Not to mention, prices we can afford. I don't care that this game will sell a million in Japan due to disgusting horrible %$&$%ing doujin reading women who don't know a thing of history. I WANT this game to succeed (even though it won't) so people around the world can partake in it. Its so selfish to simply say "yeah who cares if it bombs in America and EU, there will always be a Japanese version wwwwwwwwww".

^ THIS. Necrosis-sensei...this is a most true word. I mean just look at how many wanted to be able to play the game, but never were able to because itīs a JAP only series. How many of them wanted to play as Mitsuhide, Nagamasa or Hideyoshi but couldnīt...oh...wait...they canīt in BASARA 3 either...my bad...meh... Of course, itīs easy for me to say, Iīll just get the japanese version, but for some of us itīs not that easy. Think of others too. Japan is not the center of the world.

I'm really hyped to play this for just the combat engine's improvements alone. The amount of NPCs is a real kick in the balls, but nothing that warrants not buying the game. It seems like they fixed all my major complaints with the combat thus far, so I've little reason to be disappointed. However, given Kobayashi's disdain for DLC, they'll probably pull an expansion out of their asses in a few months. Still, vanilla SB3 looks like it has a decent amount of content, especially given how much his last game was missing... Edited by Tetsuo9999, Tue May 11, 2010 9:08 pm.

I'd have to agree thats pretty ignorant of "Japan" then if they pawn something off on the west and say "we'll survive weather you like it or not" because the only response would be "then WHY THE HELL are you here?!" i'm sure you people know that Adaptation is a games success and in its best interest from, multiplatforming to Sengoku Musou jumping to the Wii. If Capcom and Koba think this title is excluded from these rules then its already failed before its hit the shore and I can safely guarantee that after the 3rd instalment westerns will not see a Sengoku Basara title again surely some of you can understand that. We SHOULD! still remain positive but you people can't have your head THAT DEEP in the sand thats surreal

Localization for pure action games such as this one isn't that expensive compared to full-fledged RPGs, so they're probably just willing to take a risk and not expect much. In all honesty, the fact that they aren't expecting huge sales from the game just means that they're probably thinking of it as a new B-grade IP for the US, which in turn might mean that they'll keep bringing future releases out here. This is nothing to be upset about at all. Namco loves to bring over Tales games, refuses to advertise said games, releases them next to AAA titles like Final Fantasy games AND expects huge sales from them, only to turn around and drop support for the series outside of Japan. If Capcom is chill with selling 50,000 copies of the game, we've got absolutely nothing to lose from this as fans of the series. Edited by Tetsuo9999, Tue May 11, 2010 9:14 pm.

Again, I don't see why you're upset. This is nothing but positive news. Capcom dropped a ton of money on new IPs like Dark Void and the 3D Bionic Commando game last year, expected huge sales and got a fraction of what they were planning. If this game sells better than that, and at a lower localization and marketing cost, they'll probably be more than happy to consider future releases in the series. A game like the US BASARA reboot could be considered an "in-between" release, which is mainly used to fill the gap between the company's bigger releases, such as Marvel 3 and whatever else they unveil. Again, it seems like they're down to just throw the game out during a dead point in their schedule/fiscal year/quarter and not expect much, which is the best thing we could hear from them at this point. I'm not trying to be negative here, but we're like...2 and a half months away from this game and by now, i really wouldn't expect ppl like Takatora or Muneshige to show up... ppl like zabii, itsuki just might(with zabii 90%) and by now, i think if we ARE to get new characters, it will be most likely 1. amago rep 2. sorin 3. kiyomasa 4. hideie one of these 4... i want takatora and others to be in, but i dont think that they stand a chance. |

Iīd understand it, if they just slapped on some english subtitles and wouldīve left the original voices and script (why wasnīt it like that...why... ) but they went through the trouble on paying some voice actors to voice all the characters and even re-written the script to make it even cheesier. So, they actually have hopes for it, to sell more that way. And it wouldīve sold more, if they just added a dual audio option which most of the games that come from japan, even the cheapest japan port, have that option nowadays. Itīs a difference if you try and fail or donīt try at all and expect it not to fail. Weīve seen how some of them think of us, looking back at Devilkings and it seems that mistakes are something to be repeated instead of learning from them. Though I wouldnīt worry about it. Itīll sell enough to keep the series alive, at least till HEROES comes out. And Tetsuo, I think what ~in3vitableTIMING~ tries to say with dissapointed is, that they donīt try to get Sengoku BASARA a boost and bring their work to as many people as possible, but just say "Well itīs a failure, we know that, just throw it out, maybe someone will buy it, no loss for us" Itīs that they donīt even try to make BASARA a franchise that reaches a status like Street Fighter or to name a more possible thing the Warriors series. You know, Sengoku BASARA is game that Warriors fans might like, Action fans might like, Beatīem Up fans might like, Anime fans might like, Hackīn Slash Fans might like...itīs not that there arenīt people who would buy the game...itīs just that CAPCOM doesnīt even make those people want to buy the game. If you start with failure in mind, itīs exactly what you get. If you go to a test with the idea in mind, that youīll fail anyways and youīll just try to get as many points as you can get, then of course youīll never get the best out of you and evolve. I hope I got that right, ~in3vitableTIMING~. Itīs like the frog in a well...itīll never reach the ocean. EDIT: Cīmon give us some news to brighten the mood. Enough of that secret keeping McSkoba. We had that half a year. Give out the goodies, you stingy old bastard.

I see your point, but maybe its just me but "always give it your best" and with Koba's experience in gaming its a dame shame hes happy with that type of standard (you shouldn't exclude other from liking your work) but like you say it was a japanese only title t i guess western appreciation is valued much lol. I'm not upset by the way its not my work people are referring to plus i'm currently playing Lost Planet 2 and SSF4 so life is sweet i do hope it work out for him though

I have to disagree with this. Sekigahara to the Japanese is like the Civil War to Americans. We all well know what happened and why. Its common knowledge in our respective countries. And all the fujoshi I've met(I've met quite a few) know their history quite well. Sorry had to go to their defense. I have some fujoshi who are friends. Great, cool frinds who aren't "rabid" at all as a lot of you extremely DENSE, rude stereotypical people think Anyway I certainly hope we get something worth our while. I have no idea why you all think we'll get only 4 or 5 more characters. We still have 12 weeks till the release date. If we go bi weekly, like how it was before Golden Week interrupted, with 2 characters each update we get at least 12 new characters(How many of them will be PC's is,of course, the real question).. With the 24 total characters we have now. 24+12=36. However with the ____-ty character thing we need to add 4. Maybe those 4 will be NPC's And the 12 will be PC(Ugh I hope) .I'm still quite hopeful in aspect of characters. Unlike the rest of you, if my hopes are shot down I don't feel immensely disappointed that. There are other great games. Plus SB3 HEROES and SB4 will come eventually. And I definitely have to agree with Necrosis. I don't give a damn if you don't care if SB will survive the West. Well, I WANT it to succeed in the West. We're not just a "side-dish". If we were why bother with us anyway. To them its all about the money. In the business world Its never enough. So if they want what they sell for they better please ALL their fans. Not just the ones who live around them. The whole point of localizing a game is to make it popular. Hence succesful. Hence more cash. Off Topic/ Anyone get Bayonnetta? Badass game. Incredibley fun and interesting story. I LOVE IT. Ugh though i could do without the extreme male fanservice(The beginning was a bit much) But overall its a godly game. One of the best I've ever played. Edited by So Nyuh Shi Dae, Tue May 11, 2010 10:24 pm.

Hey Lady, glad to hear you are enjoying Bayonetta! One of my favorite games to come out in a LOOOONG time. Also, I wouldn't be so optimistic about how many more playable characters there will be. In every game release I've ever followed, the final amount of content NEVER matches the hype. It happened with many Warriors games, Smash Bros Brawl, multiple fighting games. I really think 5 more PCs is the absolute max we will see (I'd love to be wrong though) If they really are targeting 40 characters, my guess would be that we'd see 5 more updates of 1pc 2npc. But I think we may be looking at only a 30 character roster. As for DK's comments, dude, I really think you just happen to be under the impression that SB2 Heroes was the only SB2 release there was. I mean if you take away that EXPANSION, SB3 is already rivalling the original SB2 release. It is kind of unfair to compare one new game to a combination of the work, money, and effort it took to make the TWO previous games, especially when you work in the concept that they had to rebuild most of the game for PS3/Wii. And as for eklineage's previous comment: it is already guaranteed that we are getting at the very least one more playable character, since the UK site mentioned "more than 15 unique playable heroes" |
