Watch Koba punk us all by saying that all characters are playable through free mode. Anyway, I'm having fun with other games so this news doesn't really bother me.
AS IF they'd be that smart and or generous. As bad as what happened in DW6, you could still play as the (mostly butchered) characters in free mode at least.

Anyone ever expacting or wanting Ginchiyo for Basara should give up the ghost.

A. There's no pom-pom on Muneshige.
B. Those are not chainsaw hands, they're chainsaw katars.

Man, what a waste of great designs.

Eff.
I'm glad there's a new update but man is it ever lame. Like necrosis said, we may as well kiss Ginchiyo's butt goodbye for now as great as it probably would've been. The designs look interesting, especially the chainsaw hands katars. But is there no possibility of another page covering the game?

On a side note, I've noticed that every time ChibiGingi comes back into this thread it's in the aftermath of a bad news leak :ph43r:

Edit:
Thanks to Seraphil's keen eye for the katar thing.

Eff.

On a side note, I've noticed that every time ChibiGingi comes back into this thread it's in the aftermath of a bad news leak :ph43r:
And notice how everytime ChibiGingi returns to the thread, it's after news. In general. Not MY fault the last couple of times have been remarkably shitty.

The positive thing I have to say about this update are: 1) Nice designs. 2) More PC fodder for possible expansion. 3) Um... update in general when there could have been nothing?

See, I said something positive... despite there being very little positive to say about this update. Great designs, but damn... it just hurts. So much potential... wasted in NPC land until who knows when.

Those weapons of Muneshige look so damn EPIC.

Ah! I didn't mean to imply that you were the reason we were geetting all these poor updates, like a bad-luck charm or whatever. Let's hope one day you come in here and there'll be good news for a change, hmm? ^_^
I think we all deserve it... faithfully awaiting for the next news update in hopes that new PC's will appear. How dare we!
I don't like the idea of it but robotzombie saying only the final update will include the last PC(s) might be the truth :/

Oh, I am always open for good news. I just never really seem to get much luck when it comes to receiving it (I found out yesterday morning that one of my pet rats is going to die soon... yeah, finding out two new characters are NPCified doesn't anger me nearly as much as I'm letting on. And, honestly, I've been wanting to post that picture since forever.

And maybe the final update will completely blow this game out of the water (in a good way, mind you), but I don't want to risk getting my hopes up. I'll just try to focus on the positive things and... take anymore complaints I might have to the proper thread.

Seriously, those weapons... I shall call him Giganshige!

Wow.

They're basically drawing a giant sign on their game that says "Please pirate this game, and buy the expansion instead". At this point, they're obviously holding back content for an expansion, or in the worst case, time-dated DLC. From a game industry standpoint, you simply do not design that many characters with the intent of never making them playable in the near future. Granted, the NPCs probably only have two moves at the moment like the past games, but the fact that they couldn't be bothered to add at least a total of four moves is pathetic. My guess is that the higher-ups at Capcom are breathing down their necks to release the game ASAP, and that they're being forced to rush it out the door, a la Dynasty Fail 6. This doesn't excuse the blatant nickel-and-diming that's going on, but we really can't place all the blame on Kobayashi alone. Since they announced the game almost a year ago, they probably came up on their deadline, and realized that it was far too late to add six more moves to that many characters in time.

I'm still hype for the game due to the combat engine improvements, but I'm also weary to import the game for 80$ if this constant stream of "look, but can't touch" propaganda continues. I give it about six to eight months before they unveil an expansion with a ton of "new" content, or less time than that for DLC.

Yeah, they aren't even TRYING to hide it anymore. Its like pointing a knife at someone and when they ask you why, you even deny you have a knife.

Isn't that the marketing strategy for EVERYTHING nowadays though? Why release a full product or close to full product when you can save content for later and release expansions/DLC for more money?

Oi, I'm not trying to drag the topic down like I usually do. I hope the expansion/DLC isn't TOO much...

I edited my post above. Please read over it again.

As I said in the edit, this probably isn't 100% the development team's fault. Also, on the contrary, Kobayashi himself denied any plans for DLC in DMC4, stating that the game was "complete from the start", regardless of how paper-thin that game was in terms of unlockables. Since that game is still devoid of DLC to this day, he must have meant what he said. That little tidbit of information leads me to believe that this NPC fiasco wasn't intended to be this out of proportion until late in the development cycle.

When Capcom made the decision to bring this overseas do you think it was made real early on?
In the back of my mind I'm thinking if this decision to 're'-introduce it to the west is true then maybe they're doing a kind of "reboot" for western audiences. Reason I even thought of that in the first place is that Kobayashi said 1 character per surname or whatever. Okay fine. Then came the NPC-ing of already playable characters, some that didn't share any surnames with anyone else.

That's a definite headscratcher... If it wasn't then I wonder what pushed them to this. For me, the most plausible would be your example of the rushing of DW6.

You know what'd be funny? (For a given definition of "funny") If Hisahide, fan-favorite among us that he is, ends up being an NPC again. That's the way it was in SB2:H and SB:BH wasn't it? At the rate this is going, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again. Pleaaase prove me wrong Capcom.

Muneshige?

Cue Hondam orgasming in 3... 2.... 1..... wait, they're NPCs? Well, screw that then, so I'll ask another question then, BK...

Voices. Who voices him and Sorin?

Muneshige is Inada Tetsu (Komamura and Love in Bleach, Mr.1, and Burgess etc. in One Piece, Lu Bu in Sangoku Musou, many others.)

We can already guess the voice...he's going to be a total badass. Watch out Tadakatsu! Damn, I want SB3H.....

Sorin is Taniyama Kisho (Kittan in TTGL, many others I don't know)

His quote appears to be "everyo--ne, it's time for the Zabii cuult!!"

A complete joke character, I guess! Heh. More info to come tomorrow, peeps...

Yep, Muneshige is voiced by Inada Tetsu, aka. Trombe... but Musou fans are more familiar with him as... LU BU.

And Sorin's seiyuu is Sugiyama Noriaki, also known as Uchiha Sasuke and Emiya 'people die if they are killed' Shirou (LOL sorry, couldn't resist :hehe: )

Well clearly Sorin is what happens when Ishida Uryuu's fruitiness and sewing obsession goes... too far >_>. Well, that's two more Bleach casts joining in (meanwhile, Keiji is Ichigo).

I'll laugh if Muneshige gets his own theme song, which interrupts anything (something both Lu Bu and Trombe have in common)

As of my overall stance of this game... I'll play it. Sure, I'll lose Kenshin and Hideyoshi, but grown-up-James Bondage-no-more Ieyasu, return of Oichi and improvement over Masamune are enough win for me. And most of the NPCs introduced are those I usually don't give a damn about (no offense to fans of those people!), so... well, it works for me.

Sorry, DK. I learnt my lesson from SRW OGs/OGG for latching too much on high hopes from game producers. They can and will always crush your high hopes, so better not have any hopes. At ALL.

its like they took a pretty boy, and mashed a "Magical Girl" theme on him. i love it

sad i cant play as him true, but i do look forward to getting to fight agents him, as well as getting to fight along side him

X 3

also, if there is an expansion that allows me to play as him, i will love every single minute of it

Congrats Hondam! Along with the Muneshige reveal and Tadakatsu gameplay vid, its not shaping up to be a pretty bad week, eh? Also, sorry for the late thanks on the demo impressions, but its much appreciated.

Also, welcome Wurf.

Well, this batch pretty much sums up what BASARAs all about. Giant rocket launching Zabii heads and dual chainsaws? Ha. Other than the crappy return of the dreaded "N", which I was honestly expecting, Capcoms given me another reason to look foward to the game with the introduction of Sorin. I can't wait to see how this guy's representation unfolds, but any character with a weapon like that, regardless of playable status, will be great fun to watch, vs, and eventually play.

Shame he seems to be yet another joke character, which has got me wondering why Kanetsugu is still in his "unique" rut... Still, the designs are great, and easily make up for the recent lackluster Hideie and Tenkai.

So, I'm wondering if this batch was worth the longish wait, but I honestly don't know. Fantastic designs, characters and weapons, but the no-touchy status takes a lot away from it. All the more reason why the expansion may be as perfect as this series can get though.

Whats really interesting is the 2nd page, with Ieyasu sporting Hondam's weapon... I wonder whats going on there...

Are you sure, i mean the picture isn't that clear and it could be a misunderstanding, can't it?

So it looks like the things introduced in the 2nd page are skills can be leveled up, and that there will be linked ougis.

I wonder if the latter one is activated by doing a Basara attack next to another unique ally (so it's like the combination musou in games like GM2), hence Ieyasu is using Hondam's spear.

At this point, that's what I find interesting in this whole affair. While it certainly sucks that we have even more NPC's, I was kind of expecting that and neither Sorin or Shiggy really speak to me. I don't even have the energy to to get upset any more. Since I've already stated that I'm going to get SB3 as soon as I can anyway due to what we already know is in there, this doesn't really change anything.

And in the end, even though we can't play as them, I'll always take new NPC's over no characters at all. It hurts to be sure, but they'll be playable soon enough.

Well, I suppose that mean that there's another 3 weeks to go until the next batch comes around. Because they'll probably add the character pages this Thursday, next two weeks for the voices and then about 2-3 June we'll see something new. But to be frank, it'll probably be more NPC's.

EDIT: If you are right about that BK, then that sounds like an awesome addition.

Same. I honestly don't care at all. I just want more characters, quality characters. They WILL be playable. I haven't seen the characters because last time I was in imagebam, I got a virus, does anyone know where else I can go?

Firstly, welcome to the forums Wurf.
I admire your courage for jumping in during such a storm.

Anyway,
Quote:

"Please pirate this game, and buy the expansion instead"
At this point, this really seems what their asking for. I don't mind the prospect of an expansion, but put some work in the vanilla version, for Pete's sake!

This update was rather disheartening because Muneshige does look pretty awesome and seems like a blast to play as. Once again the team surprised us - none of us suggested the inclusion of a Katar-wielding character. Design seems very bland though.
Alas, I'm certain Hondam must be thrilled to see one from his wishlist make an appearance in the Basaraverse. It's not Mechashige but I hope it lives up to your expectations, Hondam.
Sorin might be fun to fight against, but he looks too anachronistic for my tastes...I wonder what aspects in his design reflect some fact or myth about the real person.

Having already said I will buy the game anyway, "long term investment" to quote myself, I'm mostly looking forward to know about the gameplay novelties.

Alas, I have to make note that even with an expansion we will likely never see fully fledged incarnations of these NPCs. Imagine the Maeda couple coming back with the exact same 7 skills they had in SB2 and newcomers like Kobayakawa and Yoshiaki just having the base 3 or 4 skills.
That's what concerns me for the future and that's the problem with having too many NPCs.

I hope LayGetsuei's prediction is mostly correct and the update pattern changes to bi-weekly. Doubtful but who knows?

In before the last characters being PC Zabii, PC Itsuki and NPC Amago rep.

Sorin's 4-kanji description is 古今奔放 Extravagant of All Times
Muneshige's is 青天白日, lit. Blue Sky Bright Day, but this also means Cleared of All Charges.

The Otomo clan has forged a relationship with Zabii sect, and their aim in this war is to unify Kyushu into a nation with Zabii's religion.

And yes, Sorin's weapon is that Zabii-faced tank he's riding. It even shoots missiles!

But too bad that this info giver won't make a full HQ scan, instead he just gives this:
