@anime_mania: Ya, but in the fan vote you had second.

From an editors point of view, you and OverxStudios had the best edited videos, and the fan vote reflected that.

That attests that our system (fan voting) isn't so flawed. Sure we may have seen friends voting for friends, but overall the forum, I thought did a pretty good job.

So if we move into bracket voting or Iron editor, then I think the forum is quite capable of (for the most part) voting fair and honestly.

@Jsun: here's an example of Iron editing that uses the bracket system. Note, they have been doing this for a while, so they are able to run a massive competition.
example

Now I'm not saying run it like that, but maybe rather to help with ideas for what might work here.

In that competition, we pick five different anime/games . The coordinator rolls the dice and we have 24 hrs to prepare our footage (not edit it)

Then 20 minute before we start editing, we're given the song.

Next we have 2 hrs to edit, then it's over.

best video, goes on.

64 Bracket competition with winner
I got ousted in the second round, but the guy who beat me came in second, so not such a hard loss.

This competition is only run every 2 years.

Haha that would be too crazy I think. 2 hours to make an AMV? That's not a lot of time.

I have no idea what we will do about the voting for next year's contest. We have such a long time to prepare and plan for it.

Not alot of time, but it's tests your metal. And you get the opportunity to compete with some of the best in the world. It's like the Olympics of amving.

In that competition you're given the song. This would be a good idea for us as you guys could control the music, then we wouldn't have to worry so much about youtube. I have a video on my account that the label links where to buy the song. So it's like free advertising for them.

note the itunes download button and if you wait a few seconds an ad comes up. So yay!!! for that label and their marketing skills.

Congratulations to SamuraiKitty and FourWisdoms89

Thanks to Jsun and the Koei Warriors crew for running the show.

It's been a very entertaining contest. :D

As for the topic of the future changes, I agree with Sanada that the brackets idea would lead to conflict, but I wonder is it really?

Let's say there is a tournament of AMVs of varying quality. Rank each on a alphabetical scale A to F (A would be the best, F the worst) for arguments sake.

Suppose there are a couple of supreme entries. Two A's. Perhaps an A meets an A in the first round. Sounds unfair to nullify a supreme challenger at the beginning right?

Well, not really seeing how even if both A class vids started on opposite ends of the bracket they would still collide eventually. It would be like the championship bout happening at the beginning. It would only be a difference of time and opponents wiped out in the meantime (average and bad vids would hang around longer).

Then again, you might get a rush of friend support or something to throw the bracket into chaos.

Jsun's suggestion of top 10 to select from seems sensible. A lot more work fro the KW staff though...

You pretty much explained exactly why having reckless seeding would be unfair in a one-on-one bracket. The whole idea of a bracket is to create consistency over the course of the competition. If a bracket is overly strong, videos that should place highly will end up getting knocked out early. If a bracket is overly weak, videos that are undeserving of going to multiple rounds end up taking up spots that should go to better videos. Moreover, the idea of a championship match is for the best competitors to go at it. If brackets are weak, there really isn't as much of a championship match as a championship steamrolling.

As for a panel of judges choosing a top ten for people to vote for, I have only two words to say in response to that: Hell no. The judges might as well just choose the winner at that rate. For example, if 70 videos are entered again next time, the judges have already decided for the fans that 60 videos are automatically disqualified. What's another nine?
JunctionToMusou - My YouTube Channel - There isn't much there yet, but I'm steadily adding new material. I also keep a Megavideo channel as backup.

Well there really isn't a way to check to see that everyone watched all the videos. For the staff vote for Best Video we watched every single one of them.

There are many flaws for each kind of voting, but allowing the fans to vote by posting via forum is a lot easier for us to catch cheaters and people abusing the system (which did happen). If we just do it publicly then there is no way to tell at all who is doing what. Someone could just keep deleting their cookies and vote again and again.

So for now, the voting system for the next FMVA is undecided and we will probably go over it sometime next year before we start it back up again. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. Congrats again to the winners and thanks to all the people that entered! :)
