Okay, well, I know I said I'd so a Lu Meng cosplay, and I really only had a week to work on this, thanks to work and various other pains in the butt. This WILL be redone by next summer (and this time, a lot more accurate, thanks to some pictures that Jiahe just sent me).

Anyway, here is my first solo handmade cosplay I've ever done... DW6 Lu Meng. Behond the Ghetto Fabulicious-ness of it all.

Yes, I'm well aware its inaccurate; lack of time and budget constraints are to blame. Next time, though, I'll aim for a more accurate attempt. Feel free to laugh and mock my attempt.

well done! for only a week you did an amazing job, and if anyone WERE to mock you they might be reminded that some folks spend months on extremely accurate cosplays. so i think you should be commended for the effort and look forward to seeing the new version when completed.

*Mocks* Hahahaha silly Lu Meng!/bias

I don't think it's inaccurate, and the halberd looks really awesome.

Great outfit Chibi, hope we can see more of your cosplays. :D

I agree! This is really nice for a week's worth of work, especially since you've never created a cosplay before and had no pattern??? It's easy to tell at a glance that it is Lu Meng, so I think you've done good on your part. If I looked at it and couldn't tell who you were supposed to be, than you might get some mockery!

Good luck with the improved version, I hope we'll get to see it when the time comes!

I think that's a good start, it'd just need some details (for example the fabric patterns)! Good luck!

P.S.: As I already said somewhere here at the KW forum, if I decided to cosplay I'd probably try a DW6 Lu Meng or DW6 Ling Tong costume. So you have my particular sympathy =).

Well, I had it all planned out and I was going to add in the patterns with fabric paint. However, after a few test runs on some spare fabric that I had, I was too terrified of what would happen if I messed up, and when the paint dried it looked clear (I think the brownish-orange fabric absorbed my paint!), so I dropped the idea at the last minute.

For my revision, though, I'll do much more research on how to get the patterns on there, as well as use serene_ai' instructions on how to make the weapon look much better. She/he gave me a detailed how-to and lack of time made me rush it.

Thanks for the encouragement... I really want to redo it the proper way next time around. This convention humored me, though... wore it on Friday and the most I got was 'Are you Zhang Fei?' or 'Are your Seung Mina?' I wasn't sad that not a lot of people recognized me, but I was laughing when someone asked if I was Zhang Fei. At least they got the right game.

Nice job :) Especially for your first try that's amazing.

You didn't bind your chest thought, did you? That's what I first noticed ^^° It's something I always look out for ;P

The thing with color-sprays i definitly know. Unless you are doing larger areas and cover those where you do not want the color to go, they are unfortunately non-usable.

I do small details by drawing the outlines onto the fabric with chalk - that one washes easily out or can even be getten rid of by rubbing the fabric between the fingers or together. Then I carefully apply fabric color with a normal brush right from the bottle (don't forget to shake them well or stirr them with a piece of wood before using them, or the color might change when nearing the bottom).

It takes time, might give you hand cramps, but the results are usually worthy the efford :)

As you already did with the spray, it's important to sample them on a left over piece of fabric - especially since sometimes color look perfectly like the one you want... but togehter with the fabric makes a complelty different shade :\

You wrote the color seemed clear and like absorbed? Did you shake the container for about 2 minutes?
It's something even I sometimes forget, because I want to get going already. Also make certain you took the security-ring out, it keeps you from getting any kind of color.

Another improvement would be stubles ^^ Meng definitly has beard stubles in DW 6. :)
(And I doubt people will confuse you with Seong-Mina anymore ;) )

Again, good job. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, I'll be sure to keep all that in mind. I, unfortunately, have a D, maybe even DD size breast, and the last time I tried binding myself I nearly passed out (funny story that was). I was hoping that the clothing and my weight would dull out my chest, but apparently it didn't work.

And as for the stubbles, well, that's something I'll have to wait until Halloween to grab. Party stores are a rare find where I live, and even the few we have don't carry a lot of facepaint and costume stuff all year round. I was sad I couldn't do that (or Zombie Meng).

Next time around, I'll be sure to do that, as well as grow my hair out and just dye it black/dark brunette. My hair's wavy enough and that wig just looks god awful now that I think about it.

BTW, your Taigong Wang pictures don't show up on your thread for me. I really wanted to see it.

You can try to copy and paste the URLs of the pictures on the address bar of your browser, it worked for me.

;P No need to keep all in mind, the forum won't go anywhere. Actually I was afraid afterwards, that that much info might seem like critique or overinformation ^^°
Also the clothes did cover well, but I guess I kinda got "the look" for that due the experiences I had so far.

I know the binding problem thought.
If you have a bit more money to spare and do want to be on the save side - so no passing-out chance, you might want to try one of these:
http://www.underworks.com/983.html

It's what I've been using on Taigong Wang for the very first time and I was very satisfied. I also heard that this works VERY well with bigger sizes. I only got a C-D cup, but the one recommending it to me had a DD to.

I took a picture of the effect it had on me, btw:
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7374/effectcompressionshirt.jpg

Obviously, right is without it and left with it on.

I could breath without trouble nor did I experience any pain, despite wearing it from around 6 in the morning to half 11 in the night ;P
Actually after a while I got so used to it's presence I forgot about it and was surprised when I once looked down and there was... nothing there ;P

Btw. You choose the correct size by simply measuring your normal chest-size - with breasts, not how you want it to be or else you probably won't even get it on.

For stubbles... I haven't tried this one yet, but the description sounds like it could work: http://www.dantedifranco.com/HowToHairStubble.htm

I changed the images in Taigong to links. They should work now :)

All I got before she went back and editted them was Posted Image, so I had no idea how to extract the URLs. I'm not as computer literate as I thought.

@serene_ai- Woah, that tri-top worked extremely well. I may have to give that a try (I may grow too used to it- I loathe my DD) with an unwavering passion.

The stubble part looks... interesting... I will definitely have to try it. I'd feel so... manly... XD

Thanks for all the help! I'll save these links and try to work on the costume throughout the year- I want to at least have it ready for Akon in Dallas. A much bigger convention probably means more people will probably recognize me.

I noticed, as I checked right after reading your post - was the same to me.

I love the tri-top a lot as well ^^ Seeing the effect and how comfortable I was through all the day, about a handful of my friends or cosplay comerades have pondered on getting one too, a few have already placed the order :)
(I should make them give me a provision of some sort ;P)
