So I'm in a pickle!; DW6 vs. WO2

Ok, I rented DW6 a while ago, and really liked it. All of the new additions were interesting (while some were disappointing... poor Sun Ce...), and I enjoyed it a lot. I ended up renting it twice, but I didn't have the cash to buy it.

I just recently went to a gamestore and browsed randomly, when I remembered DW6:Empires had come out already. I bought it instantly because I have, and love, DW5:Empires.

Its been a few weeks and I'm sad to say that DW6:Empires is boring me. Lack of character interaction, lack of free mode, the inability to save character's stats, etc. The only reason I play it is for the amazing caw mode and the sweet customization that you can do to your weapons.

ANYWAYS, I decided I wanted a different Warriors game to feed my hunger. I've been browsing around on these forums for hours tryin to figure out which one I should get. I have the money, and I'm eager to get my hands on something good.

The two games I am really considering are Warriors Orochi 2 and DW6.

So, WO2

I REALLY REALLY loved SW, and I obviously love DW, so I figured Orochi will be the awesome combo that I need. I haven't played the first one, but I hear that they are basically the same, but that WO2 is better (more characters, awesome orochi story mode). I've been eye balling this game for a while now and am really interested.

So, DW6
I realize that I like mosou mode over empire mode any day. I love watching cutscenes and hearing character interaction. In fact, I'm actually craving more of it because Empires left me to die on that aspect... The only problem I have with getting DW6 is that it's basically like going back in time. Zhang He will have his crappy spear back, Meng Huo will be gone, and it will feel like a step backward.

If anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE HELP ME! I'm stuck in a pickle and I can't get out! DW6:Empires is killing me! (Okay, It's not killing me. I actually love playing it..... but It could be so much better.)

Thank you!

If you love both DW & SW, I recommend Warriors Orochi 2. Dynasty Warriors 6 was okay, but... Warriors Orochi 2 was much better (in my opinion). There are so many characters - and no cloned movesets! And the story lines are pretty cool. ^_^

Thanks guys!

I was leaning more towards WO2 to begin with, since I've never tried it.

But I was thinking- Aren't the musou mode storylines in DW6 supposed to be the most emotional/best ones yet?

And I also heard that some of the WO2 musou mode storylines are random and thrown in.

I LOOOOVE storyline in video games.

Get WO2, it's a whole alot better than DW6. Funner storyline and movesets. ;)
If you are into strategic gameplay than get DW6:Empires.
You might also know me as Selsuno (PSN and XBL)

As mentioned in my initial post, I have DW6:Empires. I am starting to get bored of it.

In fact, (as mentioned in my initial post) I prefer musou mode of empire mode.

And yes- I have realized that there are a ton of WO2 characters, each with awesome movesets.

DANG! Now I'm pumped to go and get it now.... hehehe! I'm hoping it's around $40!

That is very true. For the past games, it's always the same line-up of stages and events. WO2 would be like experiencing something new.

I have a question; Do I have to know what went on in WO1 to understand WO2?

it depend

if you want to know why they are there - how they defeated orochi for the first time and what's the relationship between character then yeah, but beside that WO2 is easy to understand

little spoiler

orochi campaign = prequel to WO1 if your confuse by it's ending

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Oh, I'm also considering the graphics. The DW6 ones are obviously the best DW Graphics so far. But i heard the WO2 graphics were awful....

Horrendous graphics often distract me from gameplay (a bad habit). =/

I would go with DW6 cause it's more fun to play as one character then switching back and forth between 3. That whole feeling of "1 vs. 1000" is gone when you play WO games.

Try to rent WO2 if you can.

WO2 isn't for rent anywhere near me :[

But I understand the whole 1 vs 1000 feel of non-WO games. I don't think I would mind it much because I love varying my characters and using them equally in Empires and such. Switching them on the fly would be cool.

I think I am going to get WO2... It'll be...... nostalgic when I play with all of the old DW movesets. I've been too DW6-moveset strung. I want to re-live sun ce!!!! (And Mitsuhide Akechi, my favorite SW!)

I'm off to buy it now!

Meh, I've been hearing that WO1 and WO2 are basically the same, but WO2 offers more. So I just got Wo2. It cost only $35 :D!

I started off on Shu, using Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Ina. Weird combo with Ina, I know. But whatever.

Oh, and after playing DW6:E for so long, it was really hard to digest the old Warriors graphics. I bought WO2 on the 360 because I don't have my ps2 anymore, but it still feels like I'm playing on an old ps2 title. Whatever, I think the gameplay makes up for it. And the 90+ Characters!!!! Wooooo!!

Another hard thing to take in is the much smaller number of troops in WO2 compared to DW6.

Whatever, so far so good! :D!

I'd say you picked the better bargain, if you're out for replay value and the amount of hours you can squeeze into the game.
I honestly got bored of DW6 after a handful of musou modes. Yes, DW6 features for the first time cutscenes for every character who has a story, but they're all incredibly short and bland, leaving little room for character development or anything remotely interesting, for that matter. Plus I'd say the old combat system is superior to renbu (and renbu is actually improved in Empires, from what I hear, so you'd be taking a step back to play DW6). Although I don't care for WO personally, I think general fan consensus agrees it is more enjoyable than DW6.

Enjoy the WO series... get DW6 when you can find it in the bargain bin, if you can wait.

Is it just me, or is there a bit of irony with the topic title and the TC username? ... Sallad & pickle eh? :P

Anyways, good choice. You'll find that using 90+ characters & their more or less unique movesets is much better than 40+ with a few shared movesets. Also, the combat style in WO2 is more varied than the "mash square button + roll" style of DW6. The team system also adds plenty of variety.

Hehe, that's weird that you don't care for it personally, but you still recommend it :P. But I understand where you are coming from. I can also see why more fans like this game more than DW6.

So far, the only problem for me about this game is the sudden downgrade in graphics from DW6:E. It's a weird lump to get over...

@Mr.Honda:

You are right, I have noticed the varied attacking system and how it's not only square, triangle, square, etc (or in my case x, y, x). I'm actually using the sweet pwr/spd/tec special moves, and combining mosous and whatnot. It's a lot more interesting. It also brings me back to the good ol' days of DW and SW :P.

If you're interested in getting the most out of the team battle system and linking the various moves into combos, check out some of the videos in the WO2 video topic. There are some excellent tag combo videos there that show just how varied and enjoyable the system can be ^_^

Yea, graphically-speaking, the Orochi games are a step backwards (MOZ excluded) from DW6.
