The first time I remember an alternate Japanese dub being in the game was DW3. Probably the first and only time I needed since the English dub in the game was either atrociously funny or funnily atrocious.

When DW4 and 5 came along, they didn't have them. I was wondering why they didn't include them, yet in the DW5 Xbox version, they have it.

I wonder why they are inconsistent, unlike the Soul Calibur games.

If I remember well, DW4 Empires had the option for the Japanese voices too. As for the factors in their decision to keep an alternate Japanese dub, I've wondered that myself. It seems quite a random choice.

Sometimes it has to do with disc space. If they can only fit one vocal track on a disc, they go with the English dub because they assume that's what the majority wants to hear. Of course they're wrong, as most Musou players are into authenticity.

I know some people that doesn't want to play Samurai Warriors games if they are not dubbed on japanese.

Personally i don't care, but they should add an option to choose it.

While in hindsight it would make sense playing historically Japanese characters in their native language, it makes me wonder how the DW dub is with Fukien and Mandarin, or if Bladestorm ever got dubbed in French.

As late as this is, to answer the topic question... according to a later post after the one I quoted in the "why the bad VA rep?" thread, it apparently boils down to a mix of disc space and KOEI Japan's fiat -- his example being DW Gundam 2:

I even asked for the Japanese voice to be put back in. But the developers were too lazy to do it for some reason. I believe the excuse used is that it wouldn't fit on the Xbox DVD so we left it out on both the X360 and PS3. We (the foreigners at Koei) have suggested offering it up as DLC. But I really wouldn't hold your breath.

As for the other games, I'm not really sure what the real reason is. We, as well as our overseas sales affiliates, ask for the Japanese to be put in as an option. But are usually responded to with a curt "No".
