I'm one who largely frowns upon Unique NPCs. I mean, if they went to the effort of giving them a unique look and a personality then why not add a moveset and be done with it? Heck, if they're too lazy to create a story mode for them then just chuck them in as Free Mode characters (though I'm not a fan of the Free Mode only idea, at least not when it comes to characters who had viable roles). To me it's just an idea of milking the series for more than it's worth, providing an incentive for a future game or expansion while not fully delivering with the game that's just been released. |

I agree but surely a unique NPC is better than a generic? makes battles slightly more interesting than if there was only 5 or so looks spread across all the officers? |

They want to milk out more money from us. It's just that simple. Otherwise, I do agree with you. Video game companies and their way of nickle and diming their fans is getting annoying, but I'll be damned if I say no at this point in the game. Still not going to get a Wii for this game, but at least I'm going to get it. Somehow. If there are Unique NPCs (which I'm sure there will be, knowing Koei), I'd be content with a Date officer (Kojuuro maybe), or an officer under Yoshihiro or Shingen. |

I know, I'll probably shell out the money for it if it makes its way onto the other consoles (not full price though, I'm far too stingy when it comes to games ;P). I might as well "baa" now for what it's worth. However, to stick to the idea of this thread, one person I could see taking the role of a UNPC is definitely Masanori. It would seem odd to have Hideyoshi, Nene (if she's still in), Mitsunari and Kiyomasa all unique and to have poor little Masanori played by the generic officer. Then bam, XL with Masanori featured with a new weapon!

Seeing as Toshiie Maeda has been confirmed it would suprise me if Katsuie Shibata didn't return as at least a Unique NPC. After all their stories were closely linked in SW2XL. |

Nene and Gracia could be a unique NPC since gracia doesn't have a decent story and kunoichi is already around . .so nene is in hot water. . |

Now that Masanori is in, I really think and hope for Nagamasa Kuroda. He could be the one to persuade Masanori to join the Eastern Army. Plus, I still think it's pretty weird that Nagamasa has the same colors in Saihai no Yukue as his father in SW3, unlike all of the other Saihai no Yukue characters. |

Nene's fine. Since they've already shown her in a cutscene, that pretty much guarantees her not only being in the game, but being playable. When it comes to significance in Japanese history and Hideyoshi's life, Nene > Kaihime, plain and simple. Also, KOEI has already shown in the last SW game with Masamune, and this game with Oichi, that they can and will make weapon and moveset changes when appropriate. DW6 was a very rushed game, and they suffered greatly from their fans for it. They already delayed SW3, and this is most likely due to additions (and probably "secret" porting projects). There's no way Nene is going to be an NPC. But, now that Muneshige is playable, there goes one of my ideal NPC's. Not that I mind. I would really prefer a Mouri to be playable, but I'll accept NPC status, since it all but guarantees them to be a playable character later on. Same with a Date officer (c'mon, Shigezane! |

Since Masanori is likely a NPC, they should another NPC like in SW2. My choice would be Tadaoki Hosokawa for 3 reasons: 1. Would make Gracia's story more interesting (if she's in) 2. Joined the Eastern army prior to Sekigahara (more Eastern army officers) 3. He arranged the duel between Musashi and Kojiro (he also honored Kojiro as the chief weapons master of the Hosokawa fief north of Kyūshū). Out of those 3 reasons, my main point would be that since a lot of people are saying that Musashi and Kojiro do not really belong to the game, he would somehow connect those two to the main battles. I also hope that they make Ganryujima a playable stages, since then Musashi, Kojiro AND Tadaoki would have at least one unique battle outside the main events. If Tadaoki makes it to the game as NPC, he should become playable in XL. |

Since Masamune yells "Father!" in the trailer, 'I gotta feeling, woohoo,' that Terumune Date is going to have a unique appearance, just like Dosan appears in one of Noh's cutscenes in SW1. |

With Fukushima Masanori already seen in the game, and the leak that there's 42 unique characters total in SW3 including NPCs, I've put this thread up for us to discuss who we'd like to see as NPCs in the game. So far, Masanori is already confirmed, and Uesugi Kagekatsu has been rumored to be in as well. Beyond those, here are my suspected NPCs. #1 Takeda Katsuyori With Kagekatsu in, Katsuyori is nearly a shoe-in as they were the same generation and were heavily involved in each others' clans' affairs. It would also provide some much needed expansion to Kawanakajima, Mikatagahara, Nagashino and the Fall of Takeda stages. Plus, who wouldn't love to beat up a hotheaded dork like Katsuyori? #2 Ankokuji Ekei/Mouri Terumoto/Murakami Takeyoshi/Kikkawa Hiroie With Motonari's inclusion, we have an old leader of one of the most important clans of Japan. However, it will be a big stretch to have him last past Odawara, so I presume the inclusion of a subordinate for him to continue on into the latter half of the game. Ujiyasu already gets this in the form of Kaihime and possibly Kotaro, so I could see this happening. #3 Chacha or a Date officer Chacha would help ease the loss of Gracia for, ah, those guys (like myself! lol) Plus, it would give a better grounding for Sekigahara and Osaka if we have the actual ruler of the Toyotomi around to see her in action. Screw itty-baby Hideyori. As for a Date officer, while Masamune now has Magoichi, Magoichi won't be with him until very late. With Masamune's father apparently involved in his story, I see either Terumune or the ol' Kojuro supporting the young Masamune's growth into a proper leader. |

Definitely agree with Katsuyori. Not only is he the one that would add the most to the Takeda, who desperately need someone, if it's true that Kagekatsu is in the game in some way, it's logical that they'd put in the successor to the Takeda as well. As for some others: 1. Kobayakawa Hideaki: I agree that the Mouri need someone for the later stages, and he has many connections with the Toyotomi, not to mention his importance in Sekigahara. 2. Date Terumune: The Date need someone, and while I'd far rather see Shigezane, Kojuro, or even Mogami Yoshiaki to give Masamune more interaction, with Terumune already mentioned and his kidnapping and death hinted at, he could be an NPC. 3. Tokugawa Hidetada: Would make the perfect NPC and help bolster the Tokugawa's later battles. |

#1 Takeda Katsuyori For the same reasons you have, Ser. Same generation as Kagekatsu and would definitely make Nagashino, Mikatagahara and Fall of Takeda more interesting. #2 Tokugawa Hidetada He was the commander of Tokugawa forces in Ueda Castle when you played as the Sanada Army in SW2 and also in Edo Castle - Uesugi version. I see a lot of potential in this guy. #3 Ashigaka Yoshiteru You know, I'm a little surprised: the whole conflict between Yoshiteru and Nobunaga has not even been mentioned in SW. They did it in Kessen 3, so it could happen in SW3 as well. He would probably appear only in battle and then be gone for good or make random appearances in other stories (since he did continue to oppose Nobunaga, right?) I could also see Mori officer as NPC, especially Ekei, Motonari's "Little Monk". Quick question: Was Ekei master of the Hozoin spear style or was it made up by Capcom in Onimusha 2? |

1. Masayuki Sanada/Nobuyuki Sanada - I'm only expecting to see one of them, but either has a fine chance in my books. I can't help but feel that the designers' inclusion of Masayuki in their "Most Resourceful Generals" poll hints at something special in Masayuki's future. Then again, Nobuyuki has a lot more potential for interaction, due to his strong ties to the Tokugawa. I can see this one going either way. 2. Shigezane Date - Really, this could be any Date officer, but I get the feeling they'll go for someone from Masamune's own clan. I think they'd milk the blood tie between these two for all its worth. Plus, he was one of the Date Triumvirate. Oniniwa and Katakura have great chances too, though. 3. Ekei Ankokuji - Well, I've been saying this for quite some time now. I do believe Ekei will be given the nod, since it would bolster the Mori in the game (and he would provide solid interaction with Motonari). Plus, he got a lot of attention in the last game for a generic NPC, specifically at Sekigahara and Edo Castle. Call me crazy, but I think Koei has a soft spot for the guy. EDIT: @LoW - I think he was a genuine master historically. Not 100% positive, though. 4. Katsuyori Takeda - Well, the main reasons have already been said. A nice foil for Kagekatsu, greater focus on the post-Shingen era of the Takeda, greatly adds to Shingen-era stage. Incidentally, he'd be able to interact with Masayuki pretty well. That'd be something, UNPC to UNPC relations. Edited by Lord Manshoon, Thu Oct 15, 2009 11:40 pm.

Ekei Ankokuji didn't get that much attention, actually. It's about the same as what Kobayakawa and Kikkawa both got. I haven't heard anything official about him knowing Hozoin style. I think Capcom made that up. |

Takeda Katsuyori - As people have already said, his inclusion would help the Shingen-era of the Takeda as well as his later battles with the Oda and Tokugawa. Sanada Nobuyuki - As much as I would want him in as a playable character, as a unique NPC he could provide the Sanada with interactions as well as his later allegiance with the Tokugawa. |

#1- Sanada Nobuyuki: i really just want this guy in a samurai game This part is totally biased.#2-Takeda Katsuyori: Nagashino and Shingen are lonely, plus with th Kagekatsu rumor, you could easily make a great rivalry/friendship. #3-Katakura Kojuuro : Masamune needs a friend other than Mago, the Date clan has many possibilities, but "this" (as there were many) Kojuuro was always with Masamune up untill Osaka, since he fell ill beforehand. #4: Ekei Ankokuji: he got a lot of attention in SW2, i agree with lord Manshoon, i think Koei really likes the guy. |

All very good picks. Yukimura's bro Nobuyuki, Ekei Ankokuji, Dosan Saito, and Kojuro Katakura would fit in great. However, I think some of those five NPC spots will be old PCs. I like sorting things by numbers so pardon me as I start listing again. 42 Total = 37 PC + 5 NPC With Oichi confirmed this week, that's 26 PC so far. 11 more PC to go. 15 Unique characters in the SW franchise waiting for official reveal (sans Kennyo Honganji) KEY = (SEEN) (UNSEEN) Nobunaga Oda Okuni Mitsuhide Akechi Hideyoshi Toyotomi Nagamasa Azai Nene Masanori Fukushima No Ranmaru Mori Goemon Ishikawa Motochika Chosokabe Gracia Kojiro Sasaki Musashi Miyamoto Katsuie Shibata Barring any new character add, three from the unseen list are cut, guaranteed. They could be cut to NPC status, or cut-cut, as in removed entirely (see Jiang Wei in DW6). That might mean 12 characters in running for 16 seats (11 PC and 5 NPC) Which means 4 unique characters will come out of nowhere competing for those 16 seats. Rumored Kagekatsu Uesugi and Motonari Mori add to the pressure. Supporting characters like Nene, Nagamasa Azai, and Ranmaru Mori could turn into NPCs! |

I highly doubt they would move any of the 3 down to NPC status, as to do that they'd need to give them either a generic moveset, that just wouldn't work for the likes of Musashi and Gracia particularly (Kojiro had a generic first, so not quite so bad), and if they were to give them their old movesets, they may as well just leave them as free mode only characters to begin with. I still have hope myself that they will remain/show up anyway (you say "guarenteed" cuts, however, they are just rumours from a reliable source, so very likely, but not a guarentee...) Personally in no particular order I am hoping for (and its late, so cba saying why specifically, as I've said before; may add in the reasons when I wake up ):Naomasa Masayuki Masakage Kagekatsu (pressumed through rumours anyway) and then obviously Masanori ![]() honestly, I would not like exactly that, but at this time those are the only 4 I can think of I'd want to see as UNPCs. Katsuyori would also be a good one. I wouldn't want the list I said though due to the multiple Takeda officers; needs more spread, maybe Motochika's son, or some Mouri or Hojo (Mouri preferably, Hojo have 3 uniques already); though I know nothing of the idividuals relevance myself. Maybe Toyohisa as well, he had a lot of cutscenes and conversations he appeared in with Yoshihiro in SW2, he could easily be given his own unique model; though the Kyuushu guys looked unique in themselves anyway.
